Hank's Oyster Bar, named after Chef Jamie Leeds's father, serves quality seafood and turf dishes in the heart of Washington, D.C. Select from a wide variety of fresh seafood dishes and enjoy your meal in the restaurant's inviting atmosphere. The spacious dining room is ideal for private events, such as wedding receptions, birthday parties and other get-togethers. Hank's Oyster Bar houses an ice bar, where guests can choose from raw oysters on the half shell, jumbo shrimp cocktail, middleneck clams on the half shell and much more. Fried seafood, like fried oysters, clams and lobster rolls, is also available. Daily specials at Hank's Oyster Bar include meat, like molasses-braised short ribs, Chesapeake fried chicken or pork tenderloin, as well as two delicious sides, which include favorites like coleslaw, chilled marinated beets and braised collard greens.
I like the relaxed vibe at Hank's Oyster in Dupont. You can sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. The $35 deal with an appetizer, an entree and bottomless brunch drinks is good value. However, I ended up hungry after a small serving of mussels and an even tinier appetizer of ceviche. The service was super attentive; the staff kept our drinks full and even gave us chocolate chunks at the end of the meal.
Food and service were good but the menu selections are not overly large; and, I don't know if we have been to another restaurant (in memory) that serves no dessert, !
We just landed ... headed to Hank’s... decompressed over oysters and a nice Rose ... great attention to our needs ... including selection suggestions AND the charging of my phone ... a very nice way to begin the weekend.
Our experience began at Hank's with a small dish of goldfish. No, not live ones, instead it was those Pepperridge Farm snack treats you fed to your kids at so many soccer games.
Nice outside area, but for us it was packed so we ate inside. We started with a glass Savignon Blanc ($14 per glass), and two salads ($12 each).
For our main course we went with the seafood platter for two. It included 6 regular-sized oysters and 6 cherry oysters, 1/2 cold lobster, mussles, two jumbo prawns and ceviche ($49).
The platter was awesome and perfect for light meal. Service was excellent. The meal ended with a complementary ramekin of chocolate. Great culinary experience for our first dinner in DC.
Delucious lobster roll. Patio seating on a summer night added to our fsntastic evening st Hanks.
So nice for pre-theater, they work well to get us out on time, yet not feel too rushed. Fresh, appealing, well presented seafood. Always good and nicely served. Dark chocolate pieces that come at the end of the meal always greatly appreciated.
A total ‘dive’, setting extremely primitive for the prices. Definitely NOT a special occasion place and not for families, lovers, visitors to DC expecting a nice place for an oyster dinner.
It was My lovers birthday she was dying to eat dinner at Hanks however We enjoyed ourselves as well as the view to see the Parade. I am planing on returning
Hank's never disappoints and it was a perfect spot to enjoy the Pride festivities. The food is superb and the staff is top notch.
One thing I absolutely love about this restaurant is that even if your whole party is not there yet they will seat you. That is hard to find in DC. My friends are notoriously late and I appreciate that Hanks accommodates this. Besides the wonderful customer service the oysters are great along with everything I have ordered here. I also highly recommend the lobster deviled eggs.
Surprisingly, food was very average and rather disappointing.
We ordered a seafood platter, and it was a was different from we had before. Saviche was a HUGE disappointment, mussels are simply non eatable. And no luck with beer as well.
I ordered a salad with dressing on a side and they did the opposite.
It’s a pity since I really liked this place and it has been always on top of my list.
Food was delicious. Raw oysters were very fresh. Bbq oysters were fantastic. Would return.
Dinner was absolutely delicious! We were from out of town -but would recommend!
This was our first place to eat dinner on our visit DC while on vacation. We researched this before arriving. Crab cake was the best. Cesar salad with white anchovies was good. Fried oysters rocked.
Food was fabulous (as always). Calamari is a must. Best service and great wine!
The food and atmosphere are so great. Can’t wait to go back.
Have gone to Hanks for years. They are always excellent.
Great food and great service. What a raw Bar should be.
Great Oyster selection. Came for Sunday brunch and everything was fantastic! The fried oysters are to die for! And, can't beat bottomless mimosas, champagne, and bloodies for brunch!
Really fun and great food!
Hank's had a great oyster selection. Everything was very fresh and tasty!
It was a lovely Saturday Brunch!
Outside was nice. Tables too close together. Server was outstanding.
Great first nite in DC! Started with raw oysters - great mignonette - then the barbecued oysters with Parmesan cheese- perfect and just enough heat to make it interesting. Chilled lobster cooked perfectly , not chewy, and a lovely Caesar with white anchovies. Special. Wine choices were also not run if mill- very good by the glass French Chablis, white burgundy , vinho verde , accompanied oysters perfectly . Will return when in DC .
Super fresh and a very good selection of seafood. Maybe a tad bit on the expensive side. Server was friendly but would disappear and we had to ask one of the cleaning staff to go find him.
Great food, ambiance and service!
Hank’s was weird. The service was random at best. We had three different wait staff and we literally waited about 20 minutes before people came to check on us during our meal. We did 2doz mixed oysters which were great. We also had the onion dip which was ok. It lacked flavor but it was good enough.
Going back to the wait staff though.... it was inconsistent at best. The bar tender was of no help when recommending drinks that he created and it just felt like there was no value placed on customer satisfaction.
There were a group of 7 of us so of course that makes it a bit more challenging but 7 is not that difficult. The food took forever! Our server was nice but Johnny on the Spot she was not. When our food finally did arrive, some of it was barely warm and the onion rings (a measly order of 5) were cold. When we pointed this out, she took them away and they returned a few minutes later. It was the same order, less the one onion ring w the bite out of it, so now there were 4. They had simply refried the old ones!
I visit Hank's whenever I'm in D.C.! The seafood is always fresh and perfectly cooked, the staff courteous and provides great service. Melt-in-your-mouth clams, oysters, you name it. If you love seafood, this is the place to go!
If you're looking for seafood you've found the place! They have a variety of east and west coast oysters. The staff is knowledgeable and very on top of things. The deviled eggs with lobster were super tasty! Can't wait to go back!
Had our first date here in 2005 and we decided to return for our 8th wedding anniversary. Everyone was friendly, especially our server, and the food was just what we wanted - yummy oysters and great seafood. Happy to find it’s still a great place for a delicious meal.
Great food, service and atmosphere! Would definitely recommend!
Terrific spot for non- touristy lunch. Food was very good. 4 lobster rolls all around. Could have used a hit more zing-/ lemon? Delicious and fresh none the less. Old bay fries were perfect and the roasted asparagus was fresh from the farm. Our Server was knowledgeable and helpful, not pushy. Would definitely recommend.
Your Hanks Oyster Bar was one of the places we went to quite often, wonderful selection of raw
oysters and everything else. Time has passed; doubled your size, not to mention other locations.
Hope to get down to your new Wharf restaurant. and with its smalll change (it grew just better)) to your grand menu
All of us there::::nothing but RAVES , enjoyable and fun!!!!!!! thank you for not changing too.
Best component of the meal came from the ice bar/raw bar. Cocktails were small, stuffed with ice and overpriced. While small plate portions were adequate, the large plate scallops contained only 4 scallops and seemed more an appetizer than a meal. Would try again but stick to draft beer and raw bar.
My family and I came while they were in town and we had a phenomenal experience, great food and even better service. Definitely coming back for the mac and cheese alone!
The food was spectacular. I was in the mood for seafood and they delivered! I got the seafood plateau and fried oyster po boy. I would seriously come back today and get the same thing again. Service was also great no complaints. Unfortunately the happy hour was only at the bar, not a big fan of eating a bunch of oysters in a tight space. Other than that everything was great.
Great evening spot for drinks and/or dinner.
Seated promptly outside on a beautiful day, Ronnie and the team were friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious.
Wonderful experience and amazing food! I will definitely return when I am back in DC!
