Why do I keep coming back here? I am going to stop. The food is OK but the service is so bad it's comical. After eating dinner with empty wineglasses, we finally sent the busboy to find our server, and after that it was just attitude and even longer to get a drink. Last time, my $28 entree arrived cold. Why bother, if they don't?
There are plenty of places to eat around here.
Great little gem! Wonderful lobster roll. Filed with almost a whole lobster...delicious!
We got half a dozen oysters, all different kinds (two from the west cost, and 4 from the east coast). All were amazing. Then we tried the braised short ribs, with a ceasar salad and the mac and cheese. The ceasar was exactly that, and the braised short ribs were fantastic. Very tasty and tender. The mac and cheese is maybe the best I've ever had. Nice cheese blend that actually has a great flavor, the dish was shallow with a crispy crumble on top, which means I got some crumble in every bite. All of it was delicious.
Great experience coming to DC for a vacation and I enjoyed it.
The Host was the best. Super cute and very friendly.
We booked for an outside table because we had a special assistance dog, waited a while and they assigned a very cramped table inside because none outside was available around reservation time. I guess they should tell you that if you book for an outdoor table they won't reserve one.
The food is always good and the staff is great. We love that they normally have oysters from both coasts and often have PEI. It's a great go to with guests in town as is always consistently good.
Nice staff, good food, a little pricey (4 medium size scallops on some grains and a few algae pieces for 32$). Unfortunately you cannot fill up with dessert because the restaurant does not serve dessert. As a consolation they serve some good chocolate pieces with the cheque which was very nice.
Way too expensive for what you get. I feel like the prices have gone way up recently.
I had wanted to try this restaurant out since it opened. We had a relatively early seating (6:15pm.)
My overall experience was, sorry to say, a mediocre one! The food was ok but not great.
I had the ceviche and a couple of raw oysters as an appetizer followed by a oyster po' boy and old bay French fries.
The ceviche could have benefited with a bit more lime! The oysters in the po' boy were a bit soggy and I struggled to taste any Old Bay on the French fries.
Service was initially what I expect at a restaurant but afterwards there was only one fly by after the meal was served; there was no follow up to see if anyone needed a freshening up of beverages.
I also can't remember the last time I went to a sit down restaurant that did not serve dessert. My bad for not looking at the menu more closely before reserving since this was a birthday dinner for a friend!
I hope this was just an off night for the restaurant and not indicative of its everyday operations!
Good food and atmosphere. Loved outside seating. Good recommendations from our waitress . Yum oysters!
Crabcakes just ok. No lump crabmeat and no dessert except chunks of chocolate. ☹️
Energetic atmosphere, with hospitable hostesses and waiters, good selection of drinks made for the best Oyster lover dining; even for our party of eight!
not many options if you don't eat shellfish. One in our party ordered the meat special and was disappointed that it was tough--and expensive. Crab cakes and fish tacos delicious.
Food was lousy. You’d expect fresh oysters and clams to taste fresh, but nope. Had a bad clam. Crab cakes were mushy.
Lots of gnats inside. Crowded dining area.
Server was nice, but service was slow.
Veal chop was expensive. Veal chop was tough! Veal chop was quite simply awful! Oddly the appetizers were quite good.
Always good never disappoints. Great wines. Told waitress we had tickets for an 8 pm show and she made sure our food came at in a timely manner. Weather was great for sitting on the patio. Only trouble is finding a parking space in the area, we were almost 20” minutes for our reservation.
This is a totally overrated restaurant with high prices for mediocre food, and a noisy, uncomfortable environment and unprofessional service. It’s hard to ruin soft shell crab, but they did with their greasy fried preparation.
Service was amazing, food was incredible!
The service was wonderful and food was delicious.
The oysters were so fresh! Hands down the best lobster roll I have ever had.
Great lobster roll and crab cakes. Good service and shady patio.
Server was good but I think the kitchen was behind when we were there. We love Hanks though and try to go frequently. It’s a favorite neighborhood place.
Good food and good service led to an all around good experience.
The food was actually very good, but the service was so bad that it pretty much ruined the experience.
This place never disappoints. The menu is great. The service is terrific, attentive but not hovering. Comfortable neighborhood place.
Loved it as usual
Friendly bartenders and waitress, we were very happy with all the food and drinks ordered.
I like the relaxed vibe at Hank's Oyster in Dupont. You can sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. The $35 deal with an appetizer, an entree and bottomless brunch drinks is good value. However, I ended up hungry after a small serving of mussels and an even tinier appetizer of ceviche. The service was super attentive; the staff kept our drinks full and even gave us chocolate chunks at the end of the meal.
Love it here. We will definitely be back!
Food and service were good but the menu selections are not overly large; and, I don't know if we have been to another restaurant (in memory) that serves no dessert, !
We just landed ... headed to Hank’s... decompressed over oysters and a nice Rose ... great attention to our needs ... including selection suggestions AND the charging of my phone ... a very nice way to begin the weekend.
Our experience began at Hank's with a small dish of goldfish. No, not live ones, instead it was those Pepperridge Farm snack treats you fed to your kids at so many soccer games.
Nice outside area, but for us it was packed so we ate inside. We started with a glass Savignon Blanc ($14 per glass), and two salads ($12 each).
For our main course we went with the seafood platter for two. It included 6 regular-sized oysters and 6 cherry oysters, 1/2 cold lobster, mussles, two jumbo prawns and ceviche ($49).
The platter was awesome and perfect for light meal. Service was excellent. The meal ended with a complementary ramekin of chocolate. Great culinary experience for our first dinner in DC.
Delucious lobster roll. Patio seating on a summer night added to our fsntastic evening st Hanks.
So nice for pre-theater, they work well to get us out on time, yet not feel too rushed. Fresh, appealing, well presented seafood. Always good and nicely served. Dark chocolate pieces that come at the end of the meal always greatly appreciated.
