Hank's Oyster Bar - Alexandria
Great food and great service
Great food at a great price! Amazing drink selection and fantastic servers!
Great place for fresh oysters, fantastic muscles. Best burbon cocktail (garnished w bacon!) An Oldtown Alexandria must.
Family in town and we wanted to take them to one of our favorite places.
I normally love Hank’s but this time was different. We went the evening after Thanksgiving. I requested a special table two weeks in advance. We arrived and the hostess just said ‘sorry, we can’t accommodate your request’. Disappointed, we sat down and our waiter didn’t come for a little while but when he did he seemed so hurried and rushed and uninterested in us as a whole. I ordered the trout, which came in a soupy like broth. It was not tasty in the least and salad appeared like old lettuce without much dressing but I didn’t send it back. I didn’t want to wait again for a new meal and disturb the rhythm of everyone else’s meal. Oysters were great, as always and deviled eggs very yummy and I will go back. But overall I was extremely disappointed in this particular evening overall.
Great oysters. Great lobster roll and yummy lobster deviled eggs!
Fantastic as always. The food was superb & the atmosphere was perfect for a date.
They needed to train there servers. They delivered our appetizer with the entrees. I’m glad that we did not order desert at the same time! It should be the responsibility of management to see that all staff is PROPERLY trained.
Luis and rest of staff provided incredibly good service. Excellent food served fresh and hot.
I like this better than the other locations, much quieter. Staff is great and love the oysters.
Hank’s has become my favorite place to go for dinner. Even though we moved to Woodbridge, we regularly head to Old Town Alexandria to eat here. The service is always outstanding, and the food is mouth watering. Whenever we have family visit, this is the place we like taking them to so they can try all the different dishes. The oyster happy hour is a great deal, and they have varying, delicious oysters to choose. The goldfish to start and dark chocolate pieces at the end of dinner are just an added bonus. I highly recommend Hank’s to everyone. (The red beet salad and lobster bisque are my absolute favorites. Especially if you want a light meal that is delicious, fresh, and filling.)
Crab dip was delicious, as was the griddled crab cake and chowder!
Very busy, understaffed, great oysters
I was a little disappointed in the trout. There was way too much sauce. The fish was literally swimming in it. The server was certainly friendly enough and the manager was present the entire time. I would recommend to a friend to get the sauce on the side! Probably won't try again.
I love this restaurant! This particular evening I went with my husband to celebrate my birthday and it was my first time not sitting at the bar. Service is always great and the food never disappoints. The cocktails are delicious as well. My husband ordered the lamb with green beans and potatoes while I ordered the crab cakes with cole slaw and Mac & cheese. Of course I had to get oysters as an appetizer. I wish I would have remembered to ask for the peel and eat shrimp. My husband and I are already planning our next visit.
The food is excellent - very fresh oysters and excellent crabcake. The hostess and wait staff were very attentive and helpful. Would definitely recommend for weekend brunch/lunch - easy to talk/not too loud.
A great experience and the best fried oysters outside of New Orleans. Our server Jeremy was fantastic.
Service was excellent. The oysters were fresh and tasty. Relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere
Great food! Very loud but I will go back, just at a less busy time.
Great trendy place to go in Old Town. Food was delicious and healthy
I ordered the trout special which was poorly prepared...drowning in butter with no taste at all. Very disappointed in the food overall.
Delicious oysters and great service. Salads (avocado with shrimp and Caesar) we're very good. Crab cake & lobster bisque were ok. Skip the corn tamale.
Our reservation was at the tail end of their oyster happy hour but our waiter made sure our order got in on time. We had a trio of oysters- 8 each and they were perfectly shucked and tasted great. As we were not quite ready to order our dinner, our waiter told us how to give him a subtle hint when we were ready. He was very observant and everything was perfectly timed. I had the dinner special of scallops and my husband had the lobster roll. Our shared order of onion rings were the best I’ve ever eaten. The atmosphere was lively and fun.
Luis S is a great server. Great food.
Great place a must visit
Would try again just to see if my first time was an aberration.
Oysters were great, the other dishes we ordered including the crab tamal and ceviche were just ok.
Always reliably great!
Oysters at happy hour were a great price and very good.
The noise in the dining room is intolerable. We got there early to get the window table expecting it would be a quieter spot for our party of 4. But at a table nearby, two men with their loud conversation interfered with our own. We've run into similar situations at Hanks before. We love the food but the only place to eat & carry on a conversation is at the bar. And then we must be a party of two.
It was my BF’s bday and we had a phenomenal experience. Our waiter was terrific! Expect us back...!
Since I've dined at HOB before, I decided to stray from the "surf", and see if the "turf" items on the menu were any good -- and much to my delight the burger was delicious! Our waiter was pleasant and accommodating; especially as one of our party was late, fortunately his order was brought out in a timely manner soon after ours.
Extraordinary..we went back the next day!
I went for clams but they did not have any. I ordered lobster bisque, but did not like it at all. Too much sherry. Instead of bread and butter which would have been nice, they give cheddar gold fish. (tacky for a nice restaurant) Very loud and crowded. Not good atmosphere at all.
Great food, pricey though. Service was great but 8 of us were $50 each for lunch.
Great servers! Some of the best Oysters I’ve ever had.
I mentioned we were having a special occasion but no one said anything to us about it.
We have been going to Hank's for years and have loved every meal. The wait staff is consistent and excellent. The meals are very consistent and of high quality. I love the seafood grill and my husband loves the lamb burger. The key lime pie is to die for.....
I had the bouillabaisse and raw oysters. The oysters were good, cold and fresh which you expect at an oyster bar so no big deal. The bouillabaisse wasn’t good at all. A very strange soup base with too much pepper. Rather than dice onions they place in long onion strands which doesn’t help in soups . Lots of shellfish but almost no actual fish. Again I can’t figure out what was in the broth, certainly no white wine and no clam juice as usual. Something bland and whitish and not good tasting. The noise level is impressive. But some acoustic tiles guys.
