Hank's Oyster Bar - Alexandria
Thoroughly enjoyed my meal here! I wrote a review on yelp praising the outstanding experience my colleague and I had. This place will go in the books and be a go to spot anytime I’m in town. Awesome place!
We always enjoy coming back to Hanks. excellent food in an unpretentious atmosphere.
Fried oysters were flavorful and delicate. Scallops were a treat enjoyed by several.
Great oyster selection -- fresh and briny. Fried clams, lobster roll are always good. Best of all is Jeremy, our favorite waiter: knowledgeable, funny, helpful and entertaining without being annoying. Hank's is a gem.
Excellent shellfish restaurant. Wide range of choices, knowledgeable waitstaff and really good food.
We were celebrating buying a house
Oyster happy hour is unreal. Definitely making it a weekly event
Love it! Great seafood! We also had very good service! Got a T-shirt to take home to Texas, we love it so much!
Food and service were great, but the noise level was extremely loud. The noise problem was a combination of acoustics, very close quarters between tables, and age (kids) of diners at the neighboring table.
Fantastic, as usual!
The oysters are delicious, great happy hour value!
Fabulous lobster bisque, Ipswich fried clams, and customer service. And this from someone born and raised in MA, in town bordering Ipswich!
Fine except for the noise level. Can’t you install acoustic material to soften the noise? It spoils an otherwise great experience.
Excellent overall. Had oysters, shrimp, ceviche and lobster bisque. All were spot on and really hit the spot. Server was kind enough to pour a tasting of Plungerhead Cabernet as I was curious. Had a nice 17 blend and a scratch mix Bloody Mary that hit the spot. Great for a quick bite
The oysters, drinks and service was all amazing. The other food was just average. I would go back again but probably only for the oysters!
Oysters are always great. Salads super. Far back corner incredible loud, chairs worn out with holes. Service was prompt, frequent, and friendly.
I love the look of Hank’s Alexandria and i love thé menu. But the noise level rose to excruciating as the evening wore on. How were we to have a conversation? Impossible
Always a great experience! The food is always consistent and delicious and the service is delightful-courteous and efficient. We go a couple times a month and have for years.
We had a great server who was very personable and knew the menu inside out. HIGHLY recommend the Bouillabaisse. We had some of the oysters from the happy hour special and were pleasantly surprised. Also - the salads were fantastic. Was not as impressed with the lobster roll/fries (server actually recommended the poached lobster tail but I went with what had been written up) - it was ok, but didn't knock my socks off. We will be back as many items on the menu looked fantastic! We had the best table - right in the window nook.
My first time to Hank's. Great service, the Seafood Plateau was wonderful, and a nice atmosphere overall.
We love Hank's - the food is great and the service is terrific. Sunday night fried chicken is the best.
One of our favorite restaurants in the Washington area. The food and libation was great as always. noise level with all the hard surfaces was a little high but overall the experience was good.
The fried oysters were excellent, cooked perfectly. Nice choices of oysters for every taste bud requirement. However, the service was not what we would have expected. Our waitress was rude and what was worse than her demeanor was the fact that she got our raw oyster selection incorrect. When paying 2.75 a shell, you would expect to receive the correct oysters.
This was our second time to dine at Hank’s. The first time we went during the week and had a great experience (food and service). This rating is related to our second experience - on Saturday Feb 16th. Whilebthe food was good, the dining experience was not. We had a reservation on the early side for a Saturday at 6pm. It was already packed with people double stacked waiting for tables at the bar. There was little to no airflow in the restaurant. We were seated within 10 min which was great but about five min after we were seated - they turned the four top next to us into a six top leaving barely enough room for the wait staff to pass through. The result was that through the entire dinner the wait staff was sliding past our table (barely) and we were essentially sitting inches away from the six people next to us. Between that and the lack of air flow - we got out of there as soon as we could.
One of the best dining experiences of my life!
Great food and large portions! Even the small plates were large! Great oysters and very fresh salad. A bit nosey but always a fun place for a good dinner. Great service and helpful waiter . We do love Hanks!
We love all of Hank's location, but especially the Old Town Oyster Bar. The staff is amazing, the food is delicious, the oysters are fresh, and the ambiance is perfect. Still a favorite for us.
New menu. Disappointed that the shrimp and avocado salad had been removed from the menu. However, food always delicious.
I've been here a dozen times and their seafood is always top notch - a variety of seafood choices & prepared expertly! :) The chocolate chunks that came with the bill were a lovely touch! :)
Tasty food and drinks!
Ordered lobster bisque and although it was good, it was more of a tomato soup with lobster. On the other hand, had a steak sandwich that excellent!
Always try to arrange a meal at Hank’s when I visit the Alexandria area and they NEVER disappoint! The oysters were amazing, and then followed them up with a Lobster Roll that - to use a southern euphemism - would make a bishop kick a hole in a stained glass window. Love this place!!
We eat here all the time and love it - however this experience was disappointing.. Friday night - incredibly crowded and so loud my wife and I could barely hold a conversation. The waiter was nice but rushed us through dinner - less than an hour start to finish.
My mussels tasted very “fishy” and the red sauce had zero flavor. My wife’s trout was swimming in an inch of butter but also strangely had little taste.
Beet and Caesar salads were fine - cocktails were also fine.
Perhaps just an off night - this is one of our go-to spots in OT so hopefully a blip.
Great atmosphere. The place has a wonderful vibe. Great staff. Inviting neighborhood bar. But the food didn’t blow me away. But IWILL go back - and give them a second chance for sure. And try something else on the menu. (I did order steak at a seafood restaurant!)
I go to Hank's often and love it. This week on a Thursday night it was extremely loud -- hard to have a conversation at your table. Also the food disappointed for the first time, the roasted Brussels Sprouts came out soggy. I ordered the Lobster Bisque and was astonished at the very large serving -- too much really, and while the chunks of lobster meat were plentiful, they were a bit tough. So this visit I give Hank's 3 stars and encourage them to try to do something about the noise. Note -- great service, and I sent back the Brussels which were taken off my bill.
We had reservations but the table wasn’t ready - sat at the bar which was not a big deal. Martinis were $15 each - a bit pricey we thought !
At dinner our server was knowledgeable about the food choices . Oysters were Fresh and tasty. and our salads and ceviche were
Also tasty and fresh tasting. Entrees were noted to be good as well. I’d definitely return to Hanks and just skip the martinis!
Just great food and service. Always. Look forward to the next visit.
Overpriced, but decent food. Good mixed drinks. Trout and Mahi Mahi average.
Fantastic experience after having not eaten at Hanks in a few years (living out of the area). Will definitely come back!
The service and the food were wonderful. Will go back again.
Great seafood with ample proportions, great service.
Hanks is always a favorite of my wife’s and mine. Go to date place and the food is outstanding.
