Hanaya Hibachi Sushi & Asian Fusion
The food and service are consistently good here. It is always a pleasure to dine at Hanaya. The quality of food is always excellent and service is superb.
When we approached the hostess stand to check in much confusion, the two people at the front had no idea whom had electronically made reservations. There are two systems, those that call and those that reserve electronically. We had to wait for others to be seated, while one of the workers went to a manager so he could look up our reservation. This is just an awareness statement - call in your reservation less stress on confirming once you get there. We did hibachi and it was very busy. When seating our group of 4 only gave us 3 places, so we sat and it was wrong configuration. So be patient - either weirdness due to new staff/management or lack of support staff. I don’t know which it was but it was one oops after another. Food time! We were sat and movement all around, after 20 min I asked for someone to take our drink order. The server was awesome and working their tail off, but only one person. Food was ok - not bad and not great. The fried rice is most disappointing- it had no taste. All the food was dished upon the plate - so rice was cold before next dish was done. This review reads bad - but not my intent. The sushi rolls were awesome and waitstaff were working it. The place seems short staffed so go with patience.
Very poor service. We had reservations but felt as if we were not welcome.
Great dinner, special bday cheesecake
Food was very delicious
Food was god and kids had a great time.
Missing the yum yum sauce but not bad at all
Pleasantly surprised at the quality and cooking of the filet and lobster. Especially the lobster. Sometimes lobster is all rubber and small at hibachi. This was a large tail and cooked perfectly. We really enjoyed it. At the top of our hibachi places now.
First visit, went for our son‘s 18th birthday. Will not be our last. There is another hibachi in town that we have tried but here they took our reservation for a large party. Immediate seating , service impeccable and the ambience was authentic. Our chef was entertaining and engaging which I think is important at a restaurant like this. He made us feel comfortable and included us in the experience. The food was fabulous well cooked and delicious. This is great for large parties, small intimate parties, celebrations or just a night out.
Took daughter and friends- they had a great time but the waiter was definitely in a hurry or having a bad day- will for sure try again
No distancing measures put in place. Waiter was not available throughout most of the dinner. Restaurant was dirty. Food quality was just OK - definitely not worth the price.
Had a reservation and called two hours before to make sure they would still be opened. They said yes and when we got there a little before our reservation time no one was there and it was closed. A call would of been nice.
had a reservation, did not have a table available, ended up sitting at non-hibachi table, after waiting for 30 mins for our reservation.
Hanaya always has excellent service and food! Great place to celebrate :)
Not happy. Booth was dirty, HAD to ask for metal tableware bc they gave us plasticware, the kind w the napkin in the package. We had to order off the expemsive dinner menu & we must ask for real tableware & cloth napkins (which we never got)! Also, specifically said I wanted steamed rice & were brought (and charged) for fried rice. Ordered med rare steak but both parties steaks were well done. Last 4x we've been here, a bowl or plate is chipped & really doesnt look the cleanest. We're tired of asking for real tablewear & paying a higher price for mediocre everything. Cannot recommend!
A small group of friends and family visited this Hanaya location after making an online reservation. The restaurant is nicely appointed, clean and the staff was very friendly. Our chef did a great job of cooking and providing a "show" at the same time. Food was cooked properly and the portions were decent. This is one of the better Hibachi/Sushi restaurants I have visited in Denton county and would certainly recommend it to others.
This was over Christmas and was the second night of bad service at $150+ dinners with my kids in Austin. They didn’t bring out the main entrees for the parent, got the order wrong and after all of that the foos actually wasn’t even any good. The $150 was with no alcohol.
Our server was minmal @ best, the chef @ the habachi table was better than usual, & @ least we got metal tablewate (lunchtime you get plasticware!). Food was good, typical of hibachi tho this place & it's servers make it more of a dive than nice.....
They were extremely busy with only one wait staff in the hibachi area. We had made a reservation but unfortunately they couldn’t find it even though we had confirmation from OpenTable. It took us about 20 minutes to be seated and then an additional 20 minutes to get our first round of drinks. Other than that it was a good evening and the food was your standard Hibachi grilled food.
Very slow service. This place is lacking excitement in all aspects. Restaurant looked dirty and unkept. We were so disappointed all around. Won’t be back.
Excellent food but a bit chaotic at 5 the hostess stand. Server was extremely nice and apologetic as she was racing around. Didn’t seem to have enough help on a Friday night but will definitely be back!!
We had asked to be in sushi area but seated in hibachi. Chef was great the server had to be reminded to serve our drinks, refills, bring wasabi and ginger for sushi dishes.
Chef Kevin was amazing!
I used open table to make a reservation for my husband's birthday. I had requested a dessert with the saying Happy Birthday on it. Unfortunately, the night was ruined as soon as we walked in. The man who came to seat us was extremely rude. I tried to tell him on 2 occasions we had a reservation and he spoke over me asking sushi or habichi. I said sushi and he rushed to seat us. That just set the mood for the evening, our waitress was ok, I told her about the reservation and she shrugged her shoulders. Needless to say we ate 2 rolls and left and went to celebrate else where.
We had a reservation, but they were not open. 🤷🏼♀️ I guess they closed down or decided to not open that that.
My in-laws have never been to hibachi and this was the best experience! We ordered teriyaki chicken, salmon, shrimp and steak. There was SO much food for four adults. We had an entire to-go box left over. We will be back soon!
Over our table the exhaust fan was dripping water. We wanted the grill area ( made reservations) and our table wasn’t ready so they placed us at a table. Our waitress wasn’t knowledgeable at all. She couldn’t tell us that the tea was not sweet and made a comment that she wouldn’t drink the lemonade because the pop machine was down. Our rice was dry and veggies were over cooked. Never going back.
Best hibachi place we’ve been to. The quality of other hibachi places have dropped but this one is great.
Offers a huge selection of food and an excellent happy hour of apps and drinks
We were not impressed the first time we ate here a year ago. But we decided to give it a second shot in case that was a fluke. The service was a little slow (although we weren’t bothered by that- I’m sure they are working hard given the virus restrictions). Our drinks were never refilled- no one even checked or asked the entire meal, we had to go walk and find someone to bring us refills twice. The chef did a good job and was entertaining. The food was fine. There is another nearby hibachi grill that we think is better in food taste.
This is not authentic Japanese food. Also tried to over charge me for a bottle of wine.
Good food and service.
Good was just ok. I love fresh sushi and am an avid eater of tuna towers. This one was different from so many of the others. Can’t quite put my finger on why. Maybe not enough mayo in the crab salad portion. For sure the avocado was less than other places. Didn’t really care for the seasoning/sauce to make the tuna spicy.
We had sushi and hibachi and we’re pleasantly surprised by the quality and experience. Our Hibachi chef had a great attitude and made it fun for the whole table.
Great place for family meals or just the two of you. Wonderful sushi and Texan.
When we arrived, I said we have a reservation for 6:45 and the hostess said we don’t have any more reservations for tonight. When I said we made them through Open Table she said we don’t work with them. We did get seated because it wasn’t crowded at all but the experience with the hostess was what set the tone for the rest of the meal. I won’t be going back.
This is the 2nd time to this restaurant exactly one week later. The first time we sat at the hibachi. The ambiance is bad due to stacked boxes around the room. We felt like we were sitting in a partial storage closet.
This time we sat in the front part of the restaurant and ordered from the hibachi. The ambiance was much improved. There is a however though! It appeared that children of employees or owner were literally "camped" out with their blankets and toys in the booth right by the hostess stand at the front door. The kids were well behaved but again it's not something I want to see when we are dining out - especially on a weekend night.
In summary, the food is very good. It's a little lacking in our opinion on ambiance. Such easy fixes too.
Great entertainment and great food!
Our first time - the hibachi experience was the same ole bag of tricks but we don't go for that. We go for the freshness and taste of the food. Our food was excellent! The bibb lettuce salad was very fresh and soup tasteful. We ordered our steak medium rare and it was more medium but the flavor was great. The service and ambiance left much to be desired. The server seemed like he didn't want to be there. No smiles, no warmth and slow. The front of the restaurant's vibe is good. The hibachi area felt like a storage closet. There were boxes piled up on two sides of the room. We did not like that at all! We will go back for the food but perhaps request a hibachi in the other room. I couldn't tell for sure but it looked like there wasn't anything piled along the walls like in our room. Hibachi isn't inexpensive - one should get the entire dining experience and that includes the overall vibe of the room.
Slow service food not that good
Family went to enjoy a Hibachi dinner for a birthday celebration. The food was great, the chef was entertaining. I wish portions were a little larger. The service could have been better once the cooking started. Had to run down a server for drink refills several times.
