Halifax Ratings and Reviews
We started with the mussels, which were the smallest I've ever had. My wife ordered the sirloin MR which was cooked nicely, but was unbearably chewy. I ordered the lobster rigatoni, the pasta was way too Al dente even for my liking and the whole dish had a fishy smell. In the end we ended up sending our entrees back. The management was kind enough to not charge us. It's unfortunate because this place was recommended to us and I'm hoping it was just an off night in the kitchen.
My husband and I absolutely love Halifax. This was our first time for dinner (we’re typically hard core Halifax brunch-ers) and we were SO happy. The food is excellent. The service is superb (shout out to Danny, the manager for taking such good care of us), and the wine list is extensive. We will definitely be coming back for every meal of the day.
Very disappointing .especially for a 23rd anniversary dinner evening. The riverfront location and W brand promised much but delivered little. First we were told the rooftop bar had been closed last month due to noise complaints - so no pre meal Dir inks / vista over manhattan as planned, then the dining room felt more like a mid rank bar / bistro than a high end dining venue. The staff were pleasant enough but the place lacked any atmosphere or soul. The service was very slow , and they had run out of multiple items. Really a major let down - message to W. rebrand this place as a bar scene for Friday / Saturday night - forget Hugh end dining
Service was absolutely phenomenal! It was my aunt's birthday and they made everything so unbelievably special for her. Complimentary champagne and dessert!
The food was incredible and very fresh! Everything is homemade there, down to their bread and butter. I highly recommend coming here if you want a nice night out or to entertain visitors in town...they will be impressed!
My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary. The host gave us upon request a window table and was very accommodating. Our waiter was excellent and so was the food, the oysters could have been a little bigger but everything else was great. We both had the salmon and the strawberry shortcake with pistachio ice-cream to share for dessert. Really cool interior and great atmosphere with a view of Manhattan.
Overall, the food was very tasty, and it's a really good deal for brunch. The sliders were way overcooked and dry. My biggest issue was with the wait staff. Communication wasn't good and no one ever made an effort to ask if everything was ok until the last 15minutes before they were going to kick us out and we needed to pay. My other issue is the 2 hour reservation window. That's ok, but then the food needs to flow out of the kitchen. We waited without food or drinks or wait staff communication for a while until we were told the kitchen was backed up. If they can't keep up then they should allow you additional time so you aren't rushed.
There was nothing special about this restaurant and it did not live up to the previous online hype I had seen. We dined there during restaurant week and ordered from the pre-fixe meal. The place was fairly empty for a Thursday evening however it is a hotel restaurant so kind of expected. From the moment we sat down we had 3 different people helping our table of two. The first gentleman brought us water and menus and said he'd be back for our drink order. Another man came did not introduce himself and took our drink order then again for our food. We had what seemed like a runner bring us bread, more water etc. First course salad was good and our entree came out promptly after we finished. The issue arose between finishing the entree and dessert. We waited over 40 minutes from finishing our meal to dessert coming out. None of the 3 waiters helping ever came over to explain the cause of the delay or apologize. Then we received only 1 of the desserts from the food runner and had to flag down our main waiter to ask for the other one. At that point we were beyond frustrated and becoming impatient, it took awhile to get the check and when we paid the food runner came to gather our payment, dropped it somewhere and proceeded to walk through the restaurant helping others. We had no clue where our payment was or who's hands it was passing between. To end the night on an even lower note when I returned home I had a terrible stomach pain and became ill. My boyfriend and I ate everything the same except our entree, I had the trout and he had the steak. It came on so quickly I can't help but think the fish was bad. Either way based on service and experience alone I will not be dining there again nor recommending to anyone.
Ate here for a friend's birthday. Planning the occasion was very easy and staff was very helpful. The eggplant/ricotta appetizer was fantastic and the desserts were awesome. Both our mains, however, were just "ok". Cocktails were also good. Would definitely try it again to see if maybe we just had an off night since all the other food was so good.
Halifax had an chill vibe and welcoming attitude from beginning to end. The restaurant space was beautiful and conveniently located on the riverfront. The food was consistently good and the menu has a great variety. I would definitely recommend Halifax for an impressive date night or an upscale group outing! Only complaint was that service was somewhat slow considering the restaurant was less than half full.
Great menu and service. Food was good from appetizers to main. The organic chicken was very good. For dessert, the Peach Melba Sundae was very good as well as the lemon mousse. The restaurant is nicely laid and has a good view of the East River and lower Manhattan. I will definitely bring my family and friends here.
This was my second time here and this restaurant will now be at the top of my list for dining in Hoboken. While a little pricier than some other options in town the food is well worth it. Our server was just wonderful and she was very professional. Everyone in my party really enjoyed their food and their dining experience and of course you can't complain about the views.
Halifax was a disappointment. We sat outside on a beautiful night, and expected to have an enjoyable and tasty dinner, but the service was horrible. First of all, they were advertising an oyster special, but they were out of oysters. This was a bummer, but something I could get over. The real downfall was the fact that we didn't see our server for over 90 minutes. He took our order, and then disappeared. He never told us we would be taken care of by another server (and we weren't) or checked in to see how we were doing. We saw him walking around inside, but he never came back to our table. We had to ask for more water, more wine, and to simply get our dinner order taken. Then, after eating, we waited another 30 minutes to pay! Everyone around us was experiencing the same issue, and they weren't even terribly busy. The food was good, but I won't be going back because the service was so terrible.
We went to Halifax on Saturday night to celebrate me completing my Masters! It was a super quiet night, since it was right before the holiday weekend. The restaurant was pretty empty and really nice and quiet. I ordered the Peach cocktail and it was unbearable. The taste of liquor was too strong and it did not taste like peach at all. The food was great. The popcorn and bread they brought out was delicious and the butter melted right into the warm rolls. We ordered the deviled eggs and fritters as an appetizer. The eggs were average, but the fritters were good. I had the salmon for dinner and it was delicious. The skin was crispy and the potatoes and mushrooms were the perfect addition. My boyfriend had the cod. He said it was good, would have loved a bigger portion as he's a big guy. :) We also had the chocolate torte and apple fritters. The torte was ok, he was hoping it was more of a lava cake, but he managed to eat it. The apple fritters were amazing. So warm and just the right amount of sugar.
Overall, it was a great date night dinner. I would definitely be cautious of the cocktails ordered, but I'd love to come back and try the brunch.
