Great atmosphere. Super fun for groups, but could be a good time for a couple, too! Try the brunch specials! :)
Me and my bestie, we enjoyed the experience. It was just different due to the fact they have to cross the street with our food to get to the outside rose garden area.
Had reservations for 11:30 on Sunday. Our waitress could not seem to remember anything. Took us 30 minutes to get our bottomless mimosas, which we ordered first (of course) and asked for a couple more minutes to look at the extensive menu. When she returned she took our order and asked if we were fine just having water. We reminded her that we already ordered the mimosas 15 minutes ago. She said oh right and walked away only to come right back to ask what kind of mimosas we wanted. The carafe arrived another 20 minutes later and the mimosas were luke warm yuck! We asked for cold and 10 minutes went by before getting another carafe with more warm champagne. Someone brought me some sweet potato tots before my wife even ordered her food. Oh bc btw we ordered then 10 minutes later the waitress came back to tell my wife they were out of what she ordered. We snacked on the tots for a while then the waitress returned to tell me they were out of what I had ordered 15 minutes prior. Sheesh! By then we had been there for just about an hour. We reordered and got our food. It was ok. Can’t even remember exactly what was ordered bc of the cancellation of our orders. Ended up asking the manager to remove the $25 bottomless mimosas from the tab bc we were finishing our meal and had only had 2 sips bc it was warm. He kindly did so. We really wanted to like this place bc the menu looks amazing and the ambiance is cool. I’m truly only giving 3 stars bc the manager was professional and a frat. 💙
The Good: The food is delicious! They give (gracious) carafes of bottomless mimosas instead off filling the glasses. The price is reasonable!
The Bad: The service is absolutely terrible—not rude nor disrespectful but disjointed and confusing, especially if you are seated in the outdoor tents across the street instead of the brick and mortar restaurant. There seem to be apparent issues communicated from the tented area to the kitchen. Servers did not know the names of the dishes which is a problem because of the theme of the restaurant. For example if you order the “Bad & Bougie” and the server says “steak and eggs” — it’s confusing. Separately when they’re out of something, they let you know after the rest of your party’s food arrived.
Inside seating this time -- the service was slow but honestly for the bottomless brunch it was probably pretty standard for DC. And their food is good enough to justify it. Plus the manager was super friendly and our server was very nice. And beyond the speed the actual service/attentiveness was great!
Service was lacking, food was okay at best, and noise level of the musics bass and everyone chatting was insane. I had to shout to my partner across the table. Wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t go back.
It was a birthday brunch. My reservation was at 1:45 and for outside dining. The host at the store took time to let us know we would not be dining there and had to walk to the next block for seating. My reservation went from 7 to 5 and the table was not ready until about 2:20. The restaurant was out of certain menu items. One person never got something they ordered so they just cancelled it. The server Eman was fantastic!
I personally wasn't blown away. Optically, plating presentation, was okay at best. Food itself wasn't that impressive(was there for brunch). Plate was very greasy/oily and food tasted like it as well. Im going to assume it was a fluke but thats my first impression. Service wasn't terrible.
Brianna was the best! My family was in town to visit and requested a brunch with mimosas, brianna made sure we were well cared for and never went thirsty! Highly recommend!
Food, atmosphere, service, music, everything was absolutely perfect
Went to HalfSmoke to celebrate my birthday and had a great time! Server was awesome & brought over free dessert to celebrate. Love the music and the vibe.
Went for brunch. The food was ok (room temperature), service was slow, music you could barely hear from other side of restaurant. I was expecting more. Average at best. Our waitress was really nice tho!
my waiter did not come with my food and i was charged for it
This place is a whole vibe. Great music, food and drinks for Sunday brunch.
For the hype they did not fulfill the expectations. Servers dressed in plain clothes on the outside patio. Food wasnt hot coming out, bugs and bees were everywhere because of the outside seating.
The Rose Garden is a great idea but the execution isn’t great. The food is really good, but because the servers need to get it from across the street, our food arrived cold. There didn’t seem to be enough staff to keep things running smoothly and it took a really long time for food to come out. The picnic tables are also placed on angles so it makes it awkward to sit.
Had to wait a while to be seated with reservation, and had re do our orders and took our food away before I was done eating
Amazing brunch options! We got the shrimp and grits and the skillet. So good! Can't wait to come back!
The Experience was amazing! I'm glad I got to try something new and different. I'm here in DC visiting so being able to try them out was great.
Enjoyed the environment, food and drinks. Servers and staff were a delight, very hospitable and kind.
Halfsmoke was very accommodating. We had a huge party of 20 ppl. The waiters were very efficient and kept checking on us. The main waiter was amazing.
Awesome as always
Everything was great! Our server Candy was AMAZING! She was nice, informative, and honest. When the machine for the frozen rose broke, she spoke with her Manager about complimentary mimosas. She went above and beyond to make sure we were good and had a great experience especially since this was our first visit. She exceeded all expectations and we will definitely be back. I wonder could we request her again??!!! Lol.
Food: The W.A.P, sausage, Brussel sprouts, shrimp and grits, homemade doughnuts, etc were all AMAZING. We will be back.
We sat outside in the rose garden area which is located a few blocks down the street from the restaurant which was really just a big inconvenience for using the restroom. When we arrived their were forks all over the floor in the bubble we sat in & the tent was not set up for airflow well. Luckily it wasn’t too unbearably hot that day. The Food was retry good but flagging down a staff member to order or get something was difficult unless you got up. The Music was good & the Food & drinks were good.
This was the worst dining experience (in terms of service) I’ve ever had. We sat outside for a friends birthday, the food too almost two hours, we didn’t get half of the things we ordered and asked three times! Management also refused to come speak to us. Our waiter also messed up payment charging my friend twice.! I will never come back!!!
Food was not good. Ambiance nice. Waiter was awesome. Pancakes and funnel cake was rubbery. The entrees were served with fruity pebbles, a lot of the were on the plate, this was not on the menu or I would have said no thanks. Asked patrons at the table next to us about there food they had not finished and they indicated it lacked flavor.
It would appear that this restaurant is more about novelty, and vibe and not good, seasoned food.
The food was very good. Wings was a good snack to eat
The food was yummy. Not expensive. The overall service (teamwork of staff) could have been better…Our server Enoch was awesome though!
I Love HalfSmoke ! Food Was Great , Music Was Fun , Drinks We’re Tasty . Bottomless Mimosas , Brunch Every Day OFTEN !
It was cute
Food was disappointing, only good part about this restaurant was the mimosas
Zachary "Zach" was amazing! It made our first experience phenomenal 💜👌🏾 Food Perfection ~
Waited 40 min
I’m genuinely sad to admit that we had a terrible time. We know it’s a black-owned local business, and I’ve been a loyal customer for years, but this brunch SUCKED. In the two hours that we were there, we received our cinnamon rolls that we ordered and nothing else. No food. No drinks. We had to beg the staff to bring us a bottle of tap water for the table. Apparently they only had one bar tender, and he wasn’t trained - not ideal for Sunday morning brunch. The staff and management didn’t seem phased that we weren’t getting food or drinks, and honestly we weren’t even being impatient jerks about it. We inquired twice about the status of our food/ drinks, and at the second time (2 hours in), we were told the food would need another 10-20-ishhh minutes. At this point we finally walked. Don’t think I’ll be back, I’m sorry.
If you go, I hope you have a better experience. Sincerely! We used to love this place.
Food was good, felt like service took a while. It's a 3/5 stars for me.
The food is always great I always enjoy my time here Blake our server was so amazing I had great energy even though it was super busy he got our order correct and I could tell he gave us a smile with every time we ordered some thing the vibe is very energetic young college students but I always enjoy the food here
2ne time there.
Music is super loud. A New sound system is needed.
I got the pepperoni pizza and it was just okay. $16 for a pretty small rectangular pizza.
The long Island was far from being a long Island.
The food was not good at all. Everything seemed to have been re-cooked. Our waiter never came back to check on us. We did not eat the food.
Half smoke is a great place to experience, and I absolutely love the 90-early 2000 vibes, I love the games, music, and service, but with my recent visit (Aug 2021) I was a little disappointed in the quality of food compared to pre-pandemic (which could be the reason). The quality of food such as taste, and portion sizes were a lot better before. Even the drink (frozay) seemed to have shrunk in size and lacked taste. Overall compared to my past visits the restaurant increased their prices but definitely dropped the ball on keeping the food and drinks at the same level.
It’s a very busy and trendy spot. Our server was great but the food, drinks and overall environment was not enjoyable.
