This experience was much better than the previous. Stuck with simple orders (sushi, beet salad, mussels and burgers. Everything was cooked perfectly. The service was great and drinks arrived in a timely manner.

The restaurant was really nice, but I was disappointed to get the worst table in the house. The staff knew it was our anniversary and while I didn't expect special treatment, thought they might have given us a slightly better table. Service was a bit slow overall, but the food was delicious.

We’ve been to Halcyon many times before, but this was the last time. My husband and I both ordered the black cod. Both dishes came riddled with bones. My husband actually choked on some as he had no idea there would be bones in a cod filet. When we showed the waiter, he said he would tell the chef, but offered absolutely no apology. They brought us new food fairly quickly, but again, no apology or even acknowledgement of the problem. The bill came - nothing comped or reduced for the trouble. And to top it off, when we got home, my husband still felt like he had fish bones in his throat and had to go to the ER! For a seafood restaurant, serving fish like that - without any warning that this was a “bones-in” dish (it’s not supposed to be) or a simple apology after it happened - is unforgivable. Go elsewhere!!!

Great food, great atmosphere, seated us right away, hostess even sat us at booth when she was originally going to seat us at table. The food was fresh & delicious. My daughter ordered tge kiddie pasta dish & it was amazing. Can’t beat freshly made noodles, I guess that’s why it took a lil longer to come out. Not disappointed when it did.

My chorizo omelette was very good. My wife's eggs benedict was salty and not as great. My bellini was good, not great. Great atmosphere, very good service. I like this place very much but the food was a little off for my wife. Maybe due to Mother's Day rush.... Would definitely go back though.

The food was delicious, we had a coconut shrimp sushi roll and fried calamari - both were excellent! We loved the truffle parmesan fries with our meals. The cheesecake for dessert was amazing. It was a great experience and we would definitley go again.

Absolutely amazing food, everything tasted so good and was so flavorful. Scallops were cooked to perfection, only ‘slight’ disappointment was the “colossal” crab cake which was not very big at all, but otherwise a perfect dinner. Bonus point for the great live jazz band, and service which was perfect!!

It was my first time at Halcyon Brasserie in Montclair, NJ for my husband’s birthday accompanied by family. We were delighted with the food, service and ambiance. Our waitress was fast, friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We tried several appetizers for the table and everything ordered was delicious. We ordered Grilled Octopus, Tuna Tacos, edamame, crab meat wrapped in lettuce. For entrees, I highly recommend the dive scallops, Paella and/or Lamb with pappardelle pasta. Everything was delicious! Prices are $30 plus per plate which is moderately priced. I highly recommend.

The food, the service and the setting were terrific. I gave a 4 for ambiance because there was a trio playing in the front of the restaurant, and while they were good, they were too loud for our older ears and made conversation a little difficult.

Overpriced. $26 for shrimp and grits that had 3 shrimp. Char-grilled oysters were so overcooked they were completely dried out. Eggs benedict was clearly under a warmer for so long it was dry and the side salad was hot. Brunch for two people cost well over $100.

This is the second time we’ve been to Halcyon and I think this may be our last time for a while. I want to emphasize that the food is delicious and we really enjoyed our selections, but the service and overall experience was really bad. We came here on Valentine’s Day and we literally froze on the second floor. It was very cute and romantic, with dim lights and live jazz but it became very apparent that something was wrong with the hvac almost immediately. We felt misled the entire time we were there in terms of what the actual problem was with the heating. Our waiter told us it would be a few minutes, then it turned into an ongoing issue, and they continued to seat people. Every table had their jackets on. At one point someone came and opened a window right by us (it was freezing outside!) and pulled extension cords in from the roof to be used for space heaters (that didn’t even give off heat). I honestly would’ve forgiven it all if someone had come to our table to apologize and maybe even comp us dessert or something to make up for the experience. To make it worse, it was the slowest meal of my life. We were there for 2 full hours and would’ve been there longer, but we ultimately canceled our cappuccinos because our dessert arrived and we were still waiting for them 20 minutes later. Really unacceptable and I would’ve loved to give this restaurant a fabulous review but the food is really the only thing keeping my review a 3 out of 5 and not lower. There seems to be consistency in the slow service (and not in a good way) - when we came for brunch the first time, we felt the same way. I understand that things can happen that are out of management’s control but I do believe the situation could’ve been handled differently so as to make us feel more like valued guests.
