Hakkasan - New York Ratings and Reviews
I celebrated my birthday here last night and we all had a wonderful time. I was running a bit late and was able to move my reservation back 45 mins w/o a problem. We sat by the bar as my party of 6 arrived one by one. Bartenders were very nice and attentive. Drinks were great but pricey (expected at a restaurant such as this). Food over all was pretty good. One chicken dish we didn’t like too much and sent it back (which was taken off the bill). Overall a great dining experience and we will return in the future.
We enjoyed dim sum plates and cocktails before a show. Execution & flavor of everything was excellent with one small complaint. The fried shrimp dim sum was designed for drama with 5-inch 'streamers' of dumpling strips shooting up and therefore an incredibly awkward food to eat. It is a basic dumpling that they've added drama to...not to good effect!
We had the Hakka steamed dim sum (perfection), the jasmine pork ribs (delectable!), the green salad, in addition to the shrimp dumplings. The staff was excellent. We ended the meal with the black sesame & chocolate dumplings which were a lovely explosion of flavor. (Thank you to the staff for the recommendation as we would have made a mess with 'ladylike' bites!)
It is an expensive night vs. many other options you could choose. But if you want to enjoy great service and a creative menu, then it is worth it.
We had a horrible experience with our server. I am sure this restaurant is good, however our server crushed our entire experience. My wife has food allergies, and most restaurants do a wonderful job at directing her to items she can eat without concern for allergic reaction. We explained this to the server clearly, and his response - that is terrible, we cant do anything for you, why did you come to this restaurant. Unbelievable. We asked to speak to the chef or kitchen manager and server responded, you cannot, he speaks only Chinese. We made it through dinner, but the overall experience was clouded. Management at this restaurant needs to provide proper training to servers on how to respond to guests with food allergies.
Food was great,service was slow.
Too many tables for one waiter.
Our reservation was by 9:45pm but the hostess by asked us to wait by the bar area in order to make our table ready, waited for 15 minuets and than she escorted us to our table, there were few tables empty and the kitchen close by 11:00pm.!!!
Honestly I didn’t liked that, the one in Miami they have a better service.
We don’t like to be rushed (kitchen close by 11:00pm and we got seated by 10:00pm and the waiter took our first order after 20min.
We regularly eat at Hakkasan when in the city and have never been disappointed. On this visit the food and waiter service lived up to what we have come to expect BUT the hostess and her lack of attention got the visit off to a rough start. We arrived early for our reservation due to the snowy conditions but instead of seating us early the hostess left us in the bar even AFTER our reservation time. There were plenty of tables and she seated several couples that came in after us so this did not sit well with me. In the end, the table we got seated at was one that had been empty since we arrived.
The ambiance was very nice and the sound level was very low for a busy restaurant such that it was easy to converse for a Perry of four - and my hearing is not great! The food was outstanding particularly the Peking Duck. And our waiter was one of the best I have ever had - attentive and his suggestions were right on the mark as for size of selections and number we should order.
Party of 3. Service was fast and presentation was great. Dim sum lunch special was disappointing. For $39 pp, you would do better ordering an entree and app. Dim sum quality seemed preprepped so doesn't have that fresh quality and the skin is too thick. The rice I ordered separately was good possibly because it wasn't prepped in advance and made fresh.
They may have lost their Michelin Star, but it is still a creative and entertaining venue. We had an extremely helpful waiter guiding us through the menu options. With artistic cocktails, dramatic plating and an adventurous ambiance it is a very colorful stage for showcasing Cantonese cuisine with much of the flair you might find in a high end Japanese restaurant. It is a fairly high price point, but they do deliver a memorable meal worthy of a splurge.
Me and my husband spent a saturday evening dining at Hakkasan, and it was just a fantastic experience! The service was perfect, and especially the wine expert. He helped us in a very fine way.
We ordered one of the pre set menus, and the food was splendid!
We would like to go back to Hakkasan the next time we are on a holiday in NYC!
Had a great holiday experience at Hakkasan. From the minute we walked in the hosts were friendly and welcoming and the interior vibe was warm with pleasant incense smell, and a bit mystical with the large space divided up into comfortable neighborhoods either the bar area, or cozy booth seating, down corridors lined with interesting Balanese wood lattice.
We immediately started sampling delicious hot dim sum and other small plated treats, followed by savory Cantonese noodles and rice dishes with imagination and real umami.
All in all a very elegant, and pleasant culinary voyage.
Delicious pre theatre dinner with excellent service and lovely ambiance
Enjoyed the dim sum platter, soft shell crab( absolutely crisp and flavorful)
They remembered our anniversary with the dessert
Would recommend Hakassan for any time
- a real gem in the theatre area
We were delighted to find this restaurant - it is hard to notice it as it's nestled between buildings but has a very heavy and elaborate door. The staff are very attentive and helpful. The food is outstanding and ambiance is great. I'm vegetarian so sometimes hard to find good food but this place was outstanding. Although it was somewhat pricey to my standards it is a great place for a special occasion and highly recommend it.
For exceptional Asian cuisine Hakkasan is the place to go with a menu that provides a wonderful eating expereince! It has a comfortable atmosphere with excellent service and a nice vibe. They have unique cocktails that are delicious, beautiful & mysterious at the same time... I recommend the 'Blood & Sand' cocktail...a drink that provides a photo op! The ambiance & staff makes this restaurant a step up from Zuma.
Greeted warmly at the door, not rushed, Somalia’s had great knowledge of wines, food was delicious and the crispy duck is still making my mouth water. Great evening in the company of one of my best pals, left happy and will definitely be back again.
We explicitly told the waiter we were starving and he took our order and never came back... the food took 1 hr and 15 min to come! It might have been the time of day, but come on! - the food was great but the wait and lack of attention makes it very un appealing to come back
I didn't get a quiet and private seats, which is just fine. However, the table is kind of small, not enough for the foods I order especially Chinese food, which are all shared and put in the middle. The restaurant didn't release that was my birthday. Some of the meat tested a little weird (too many fruits with meat, maybe?)
Exceeded expectations. We have been long-time fans of the original in London where we used to live. Came to this one after seeing Pete Wells' recommendation in the NYT. We were NOT disappointed. We were a party of four. Wife, teenage daughter and her friend. We did the $128 per person menu plus a couple of extras. All the dishes were quite good, some excellent. The cocktails were a hit with the drinking age crowd; but the mocktails were an equal hit with those too young to imbibe. The big surprise was the service. For a place that goes out of way to be hip, cool and upscale, the service was superb. Very attentive and friendly. Despite all the reminders of the dress code (and we were appropriately dressed), they didn't give us any attitude about having teenagers with us. Made everyone feel welcome. We will definitely be back and good to know this is in the Theatre District (and far enough west that you can get in and out absent the crowds closer to Times Square.)
Horrible. I made a reservation at 7:00pm and showed up at 6:58. The front desk people letted me sit in the lounge for 20 mins. I went back to talk to them and they pretend that I was talking to air. So we had to ask one of the waiters to help us out. Very rude service from front desk. The rest of the restaurant is fine.
