Hakkasan - New York Ratings and Reviews
Awesome find. Went for dim sum lunch. We ordered al a crate and loved everything. Scallion shrimp su mai, crispy duck rolls, noodles with duck and XO sauce, hot and sour soup... just all wonderful, lunch for two was about $95. No cocktails just had tea.. we will be back. Cool restaurant and very cool bar.
I loved the food at this restaurant. Very creative and visually appealing. Portion sizing is generous. Our waitress helped us order just enough which we totally appreciated. The restaurant has an initial feeling of being a quiet upscale restaurant, however it is very loud. If you were with a large group, it’d be hard to hear each other. I’d definitely visit again because the food is amazing It just wouldn’t be for a quiet romantic meal.
The service was invasive. The room manager would shake bottles to check content, fingers inside the plate when serving (unacceptable), and constant checking the table stressing the guests. Having visited the London restaurant several times it's clear the standard is lower in this experience.
We ordered Spicy Shrimp. It was a disappointment because if you are familiar with Chinese Cuisine, Spicy is not Curry. It had a curry sauce!
I was so misled and disappointed. Furthermore, to add insult to injury, the shrimps were cooked to just under cooked. For an authentic Chinese connoisseur, shrimps must be cooked, not over, not under. Just cooked to that right degree. And worse, it was cooked separately and then arranged over a curried sauce. Yiks. I.e. shrimp is tasteless and you have to dip it in curried sauce. Double Yiks.
Next: Hakkasan Pork...now Hakka is a dialect of China. So when I order Hakkasan Pork in such a highly touted 4 to 5 stars setting, I expect it to deliver the mouth melting delicicious taste and texture.
Suffice to say, Food at Hakkasan, to a sophisticated, authentic Chinese palate, disappoints terribly.
But! The restaurant will thrive because, I, the 0.01 per cent know what authentic Chinese food should taste like. The rest will continue to rave.
Where pleased, we got a good table, exellent service. We took a signature meny and the dumplings where just amazing, the rest of the food was good, but not close to the dumplings. Good service and they let us keep the table after we had finished our dinner.
Best Chinese Food I've ever eaten! This was my second visit to Hakkasan. The steamed Dim Sum is extraordinary. We chose the pre- theater dinner, and were very pleased with our well priced and delicious decision. The hostesses and wait staff were outstanding and welcoming and excellent suggestions were made for our dinner choices. The only dissappointment was that we were there to celebrate my son's 30th Birthday, which they were told about in advance, and it was acknowledged to me by the hostess, but no mention of it was made by the waiter and it was just another night of dining ( albeit, a fabulous one!).
I would recommend to a friend with the caveat that the service is very poor. Lots of service people running around but drinks took forever then were wrong, first course of soup was served to one person at table and others were not. Place needs some management.
Peking Duck was better than the one we had in China! Dim Sum Platter delicious. We took our son and future daughter-in-law for dinner and they loved it! Service was impeccable and professional. The general manager was very friendly and made sure everything was running smoothly. We highly recommend Hakkasan.
I took my nephew, brother and sister-in-law here to celebrate my nephew's birthday. I understand this is an upscale restaurant but certain items were way overpriced. The dishes we ordered were good and the ingredients fresh. But I was surprised that a bowl of rice was $5 and each pot of tea was $10. We spend $40 just on tea and rice.
Amazing restaurant with an eclectic menu. If you want your taste buds challenged then you must try Hakkasan. The sharing plates are a brilliant way to stretch your palate and try small bites across the menu.
Highlight of the meal was the duck salad which was the best we have ever tasted. Only niggle was the wine list which was overpriced for what was on offer and the sommelier recommended a Slovenian wine which was bland and left a bitter after taste; so don't order unless you are prepared to reorder a decent bottle and rack up an expensive drinks bill.
Hakkasan exceeded our expectations for a Times Square restaurant — amazing menu, exceptional friendly helpful service, delicious food creatively and appetizingly served. The decor is very dark and modern with lots of blue lighting and loud electrobeat music (which we could have done without). It's fun though! I can see returning to this restaurant frequently when we are in midtown for a show.
My second meal at this restaurant , just as good as last time. Food is creative Asian , carefully prepared and presented, and the service was wonderful. I will make a point of booking again for pre or post theater, very convieint to the major Broadway theaters. Must haves: the steamed dumplings and the crispy duck salad.
