I was totally unaware that one of our items charged us $31.95. We do not speak Spanish. I'm talking about the Parillada San Miguel which cost $31.95. I didn't even see that amount anywhere on the menu and I don't think any of the 4 items on our receipt would warrant that amount. However, all the food and service was excellent.
Based on Open Table recommendations, my wife & I tried Hacienda San Miguel's while visiting McAllen. The menu was in English, but none of the staff spoke English. We ordered by pointing, and after about 20 minutes the first entree arrived. 30 minutes later we were still waiting for the second entree (shrimp on a skewer). Using Google, we found out it would be 10 more minutes. We sent the first entree back (now cold), and split the second entree when it arrived. It was totally tasteless and had no seasoning. No explanation or apology was ever offered. I would suggest eating anywhere else.
Everything was great except for the service. Waiters take a long time to check on costumers for refills or extra sides. They are talking or on their phones. Sometimes they are rude if you call them to your table.
This place was so friendly to everyone. It seemed like everyone knew everyone...there are regulars who go every Thursday night to hear Tres En Punto, and that was amazing. It is a comfortable place to be as the service is excellent. Of course, the best part of the night is listening to the fantastic music of the best trio in RGV, Tres en Punto. Their harmony and unique renditions of classic Mexican songs are a pleasure to hear. Their repertoire of songs goes from the classic to musci from other countries such as Cuba, Argentina, Colombia. This is quite entertaining.
I will be returning and taking other friends to experience this unique place.
The food is the traditional Mexican fare....and there was even a woman who walked in with long stem roses to sell, just like you see in Mexico. This place transports you to another place which is happy and entertaining.
Everything was fine except that I was a bit late and they didn't keep my reservation and they sat us next to the service door in an extra table. Other than that evrything was good.
