You can expect the same communal beer hall experience, and we will still have a bar-arcade with pool tables, foosball, darts and videogames... The exciting change is that we will now have a Mexican inspired menu of drinks and food!
The space has with three floors, three full bars, and capacity for over 600 guests.
Largely a bar, but unexpectedly tasty food! Had the Nachos (w/ steak) and shrimp & grits - all were delicious. Tables have games (jenga, scrabble, connect 4) which was a nice surprise. Will go back for drinks, and food!
Terrible service got our order wrong. Charged us for drinks we didn’t order.
A great place for a quick bite especially with kids. Games at the tables and an arcade downstairs. It was very loud so
My kids didn’t want to hang out. Otherwise, a nice place.
We had fun and food was great!
We had a good meal with great service, and the kids enjoyed playing the games at the table.
The food is seriously not edible. Spent over $200 and left hungry. Beer selection is poor for a pub like this. Games are good and if you need a place where kids can be loud and you just want a pint, then it’s fine. They have to step up their game if they want to succeed.
Huge & empty at lunch time!
The ambiance is fit for the younger working class. That is really the only good thing it offers compared to other places on that street. The drinks were awful, bartenders should take a class on proper pouring ratios. The appetizers were better than the entrees. The third floor wasn’t opened which seems odd to advertise three floors. The restaurant was extremely loud and extremely hot. Very difficult to hear people at your own table. We were a party of five that were dripping in sweat within the first 10 minutes until we left. They need a better ventilation system. I would only go back for beer and in the middle of winter so that I won’t sweat my make up off again and need to put my hair up. Four of the five of us wouldn’t recommend to people.
We came here with some friends- thinking it was the original Mexican place that was at this location. The food was not good. Even the guacamole and Mac and cheese were bad. We had about 5 different servers within the hour we were there, and bussers kept taking our food and drink before we were even done? So strange. Might be okay for a drink after work but definitely don’t recommend eating. Also music was SO loud especially considering it was 5pm... strange
Made reservations at Habanero Blues. Day before received confirmation for reservation at American Hall with no info that Habanero Blues had closed and/or restaurant changed names. Had to find out from researching reviews. Checked the menu and it seemed appealing and decided to try it. Got to restaurant 30 min early and place was empty. Staff was friendly but Service was slow (surprising for empty restaurant) and food was ok. Not overly impressed and would not go back as disappointed with whole situation.
I used to know this venue being previously Habanero Blues. Now it is American Hall. Same owners and same 5 star quality of food, service and drinks. I work in this area so not only it is in one of the best locations of Manhattan, it also has a great atmosphere. Love this place and now they have some games! Love it. Going back for sure!!
This place is great! I had ribs with a side of fried cauliflower and it was delicious. After dinner, we went downstairs for more beer as we played pool and fussball. Will definitely
come back soon!
The manager Edward made my son’s 10th birthday so awesome! He hooked up video games and let my son play first and brought him an ice cream sundae. Thanks for a great night!
So I never even made my reservation. Let’s start with why.
1. After booking my table, I couldn’t help but notice all of the “negative” reviews you guys have. I didn’t find ONE positive review. Cool whatever, I NEVER judge a place on just their reviews.
2. My cousin and her husband attended your establishment 2 weeks ago on a Friday afternoon around the time I booked my reservation. She told me the prices were a bit high, and the food was NOT all that great. Not to mention, the drinks were over priced and tasted nothing like alcohol.
3. I’m big on my drinks, dinner and atmospheres, so if I’m getting several opinions, not only online, but personally from family, it’s making it very hard for me to visit your establishment. Your advertising is so enticing (believe I saw a poster a while back) I’m just trying to build the courage to come in there and not be disappointed.
You’re probably thinking to yourself, my review or comments don’t really matter to you, or aren’t important, however, I’m a VP with an amazing brand located all over the US, with a majority of our market located in NYC and I’m always looking for places, such as yours to host events. Like I said, you seem very enticing, I just want to be knocked off my feet when I come in. Have a great Monday!
What a disappointment! The pictures and description on Open Table made this place seem upscale and nice for a date night while visiting NYC. It was not. The walls were galvanized steel, the waitresses had on booty shorts do you had to endure their butt cheeks as you ate and they served food. Ewwwww. The food was good but who ever heard of a Mexican restaurant that did not have complimentary chips and salsa. The margaritas were weak and barely had any tequila. Overall my third fail this trip from Open Table recommendations.
Way too loud. I don’t mind noise, it doesn’t typically bother me but the noise level was ridiculous. Drinks were strong, but just ok, food was good, service was decent...but overall I could barely speak to my friend without yelling. We just got an appetizer and didn’t even finish our drink because we decided to leave and go somewhere to chat at a normal decibel level.
Nice place, great with kids, but more like a sports bar. Not the ambiance I was expecting. Food is good but very expensive for nachos and tacos.
We needed a place for a group in Herald Square and I came across Habanero Blues - all of us got something different and everyone really liked it! I was really impressed that both the rice and beans were vegetarian, and the Avocado Frito tacos were delicious. Good tip - you can choose 3 different tacos from the options to try several! Our server was really nice and didn’t rush us at all (we were a little slow to order). During the week I’m sure it’s mobbed but on a Saturday night in the summer it was not so busy so we could still hear each other. Recommended!
The food was great, but the noise level is LOUD; to the point that a couple who were seated next to me got up and left. I would come back except the nightclub-like noise doesn’t make for pleasurable dining.
Great service and good food!
Had very high expectations for this spot given the lack of cantina in the midtown area. Space is huge, was fairly quiet for a weekday lunch which should have been a dead giveaway. Lunch portions were small, 2 tacos, my 7 year old would have been hungry. Most likely first and last experience, unfortunately.
Service was horrible. Our waiter disappeared and we had to locate a manager to request our check.
This place is a better and more extensive version of Chipotle. Definitely would recommend!
Excellent food. Wonderful service. Reasonable prices.
I wasn't really impressed with the food here, I cant comment on drinks because I didn't have any. But my friends told me they were strong. We were a table of four, and decided on ordering the taco platter which came with a whopping 16 tacos. I wasn't floored by any of them, had better at taco truck in Hoboken.
Overall the ambiance is good, service was great; but food meh..
Good service and food.
The food was okay it was not bad it tasted like what a person from another country would expect mexican food to taste like. The food was ok but this is in manhattan and the food should be good.
This place has lots of potential but (a) it is way too loud and (b) they are understaffed.
Food was good and ambiance was nice.
They need more wait staff. The hostess was doubling as a waitress. They are completely understaffed. The manager stands around like a prison guard and does not smile.
Food was very subpar. Waitress was nice. But the food took over 45 min to come out. And then what a disappointment once it arrived. We spent over $200 for four of us and for a meal to be tasteless was terrible.
Habanero Blues has a great menu and great drinks. It is very noisy though and can be difficult to hear others. The staff is attentive, but almost a little too attentive. Otherwise the food was great and I would go back.
Great food. Not so good margs. Too sweet with what tasted like cheap margarita mix rather than fresh from a restaurant.
Went here for cinco de mayo. Solid authentic Mexican restaurant. Margaritas were tasty!
It was awful. Didn’t even eat as we didn’t have a gluten free option. Staff was rude to us and told us not to eat there. Will not be coming again.
This is a good place to go if you just want drinks and a quick bite. It is very loud if you want to have a conversation. You only have 5-6 food items to choose from on the menu (very limited and more like an appetizer). If you need to modify, adjust or request a change to those items you can’t (it has to be as is). For that, it is pricey for just a limited ok menu. You are better going there for a pre- restaurant meal and grab a drink before heading elsewhere.
Stopped by to grab dinner and drinks with a friend. The avocado frito tacos were so delicious and the frozen sangria was out of this world! My friend enjoyed her dinner and frozen sangria as well. It’s usually not super noisy but on this particular week night, it was very lively. I’m inclined to attribute that to the weather because it went up to 92 degrees on May 2nd after weeks of struggly spring weather. Old man winter left his mark this year for sure. Weird weather aside, I highly recommend this place!
Very slow service needed more than 2 bar tenders
Horrible food and service.
Great drinks and food. Perfect for an after work happy hour or a causal meet up with friends. I will definitely be back!
Horrible experience...ee had an 8p reservation, got seated right away, but drinks took 30+ min to receive once ordered, and we waited over an hour for the food we ordered, and never got it, so we ended up leaving and going to Rag Trader down the street. The only saving grace was that our drinks and the guac we ordered were comped.
