In addition to a restaurant main floor that seats more than 200 persons and converts to a dance floor some nights, the Cellar at Habanero Blues features a pool hall and is host to NYC dart leagues, in addition to having another bar and an unique ambiance all its own.
The staff was phenomenal and super attentive to all of our every needs! Can’t wait to come back there again.
Music was incredibly too loud
Overcharged for dinner, had to spend time arguing with server
Quest dip is just Orange cheese sauce
Great spot, amazingly helpful when I left something at the restaurant.
Reasonably good Mexican food in very convenient area.
We went for dinner and not overly impressed.
The food was okay- they were out of avocado fries at the start of the dinner shift, and my salad was comprised of dried-out pieces of chicken, along with other ingredients.
The tacos were described as “okay” but not crave-able or a dish that would be ordered again.
All the TVs tuned to sports just made it feel like a sports bar which happened to have Mexican decor and food choices.
Overall, fairly lackluster and if we are spending as much as we did, we want “wow” and memorable, rather than just okay.
Food was decent and came out quickly, service was a bit lacking servers should check on their guests a lite more often other than that the experience was decent.
A group of 7 women met for dinner. We ordered drinks and appetizers to share before ordering dinner. We were provided with a few forks and plates. We had to ask for knives and napkins. When a drink was finished the glass promptly disappeared with no offer for another drink. For dinner we ordered 7 entrees, one was a salad. 6 entrees arrived, the salad was missing. We had to find the waitress to ask about the missing salad. After a bit of confusing conversation they said it would be right out. No one else started their meal, because that’s just the right thing. It took 20 minutes for the SALAD to arrive. We were told it was because they had to cook the corn. The waitress was unphased by the 20 minute delay, did not understand why we were annoyed that we now had 6 cold meals and one hot salad, and offered NOTHING to compensate.
Overall the food was average, not good nor bad. Typical for the neighborhood and price point. The service was terrible! They are clearly not trained in common server tasks and disappear and reappear in groups. They walk around like deer in headlights.
Dine at your own risk!
Fantastic food and service. Great time
Place is good for a meal where you do not need to impress someone. Had the fish taco which were good tasting, but cut the fish smaller. My friend had the taco salad which was disappointing. the taco salad at wendy is better.
The location is great. The staff very friendly food its ok. They just need to be more specific in some menu items. And a litle more training. But this place is really good and we had a really good time. and the drinks...oh the drinks are fantastic!!!!
Great little find. Had been on an all day nyc shopping trip w my 2 teenagers and we were starving. Concerned we wouldn't find a place to eat on a Friday at 730pm with good food, service and ambiance until stumbled upon Habaneros. Tacos and enchiladas were amazing! Great Margarita for mom as well 😊
It was great
One of my favorite spots! Drinks are great and reasonable, food is delicious! It’s is a fun lively atmosphere - just for after-work happy hour!
A great lively place for after work spot! The drinks tasted better than the food, I had the chicken tacos and guac for the appetizer. If you want good food, don't come here.
Friendly wait staff, delicious food and margaritas. It was a nice dinner on a rainy night, well situated.
Great food great atmosphere . I keep going back ang bringing new people. Great place to watch a game too
Chose the restaurant because of the wide selection of ceviche on the online menu. Turns out they took the ceviches off the menu sometime ago. Otherwise standard and unremarkable Tex mex food. Oddly, they put radishes in their chicken nachos and fish tacos. Really poor choice.
Noisy sports bar scene. The food was okay, nothing remarkable. I would not go back. They need to have an updated menu online.
Bright clean place but spotty service and a bit pricey for portions and quality.
Waitress completely messed up the order and rather than take the food back to have it prepared as it should have been she just kept asking if everything was ok. Even the manager knew she messed up and made no attempt to fix it. I picked up on something being wrong when the waitress asked if I wanted cilantro, salsa or onions for my tacos. You make things worse for yourself when the customer comes to the realization that you messed up instead of hearing it from you.
I booked a table for 6 people for my birthday, when I arrived the place was packed. We were 15 minutes early, but I went over to the server and let her know we were there anyway. I should have known then that I wasn’t getting a table, the look of confusion on her face said it all. She told me to wait one minute, walked into the restaurant to see if there was a table, when she came back she completely ignored us. I waited 15 minutes, until my reservation time and walked back over, this time to another server and she did the same thing. From there it was a nightmare of them trying to seat us at 4 seat tables, bar tables and telling us for 20 minutes our table was being cleared.
Unfortunately, we had planned the reservation around our everything’s plans so we had to leave. I waited 35 minutes, 20 after our reservation was for and didn’t get a scrap of food. All in all, I spent my birthday quickly eating fast food because this place doesn’t honor it’s reservations, I would recommend going elsewhere unless you can wait.
Service and staff were great. Prices for taquilla were off the charts. I would only recommend if someone is stuck in midtown.
Largely a bar, but unexpectedly tasty food! Had the Nachos (w/ steak) and shrimp & grits - all were delicious. Tables have games (jenga, scrabble, connect 4) which was a nice surprise. Will go back for drinks, and food!
Terrible service got our order wrong. Charged us for drinks we didn’t order.
A great place for a quick bite especially with kids. Games at the tables and an arcade downstairs. It was very loud so
My kids didn’t want to hang out. Otherwise, a nice place.
We had fun and food was great!
We had a good meal with great service, and the kids enjoyed playing the games at the table.
The food is seriously not edible. Spent over $200 and left hungry. Beer selection is poor for a pub like this. Games are good and if you need a place where kids can be loud and you just want a pint, then it’s fine. They have to step up their game if they want to succeed.
Huge & empty at lunch time!
The ambiance is fit for the younger working class. That is really the only good thing it offers compared to other places on that street. The drinks were awful, bartenders should take a class on proper pouring ratios. The appetizers were better than the entrees. The third floor wasn’t opened which seems odd to advertise three floors. The restaurant was extremely loud and extremely hot. Very difficult to hear people at your own table. We were a party of five that were dripping in sweat within the first 10 minutes until we left. They need a better ventilation system. I would only go back for beer and in the middle of winter so that I won’t sweat my make up off again and need to put my hair up. Four of the five of us wouldn’t recommend to people.
We came here with some friends- thinking it was the original Mexican place that was at this location. The food was not good. Even the guacamole and Mac and cheese were bad. We had about 5 different servers within the hour we were there, and bussers kept taking our food and drink before we were even done? So strange. Might be okay for a drink after work but definitely don’t recommend eating. Also music was SO loud especially considering it was 5pm... strange
Made reservations at Habanero Blues. Day before received confirmation for reservation at American Hall with no info that Habanero Blues had closed and/or restaurant changed names. Had to find out from researching reviews. Checked the menu and it seemed appealing and decided to try it. Got to restaurant 30 min early and place was empty. Staff was friendly but Service was slow (surprising for empty restaurant) and food was ok. Not overly impressed and would not go back as disappointed with whole situation.
I used to know this venue being previously Habanero Blues. Now it is American Hall. Same owners and same 5 star quality of food, service and drinks. I work in this area so not only it is in one of the best locations of Manhattan, it also has a great atmosphere. Love this place and now they have some games! Love it. Going back for sure!!
This place is great! I had ribs with a side of fried cauliflower and it was delicious. After dinner, we went downstairs for more beer as we played pool and fussball. Will definitely
come back soon!
The manager Edward made my son’s 10th birthday so awesome! He hooked up video games and let my son play first and brought him an ice cream sundae. Thanks for a great night!
So I never even made my reservation. Let’s start with why.
1. After booking my table, I couldn’t help but notice all of the “negative” reviews you guys have. I didn’t find ONE positive review. Cool whatever, I NEVER judge a place on just their reviews.
2. My cousin and her husband attended your establishment 2 weeks ago on a Friday afternoon around the time I booked my reservation. She told me the prices were a bit high, and the food was NOT all that great. Not to mention, the drinks were over priced and tasted nothing like alcohol.
3. I’m big on my drinks, dinner and atmospheres, so if I’m getting several opinions, not only online, but personally from family, it’s making it very hard for me to visit your establishment. Your advertising is so enticing (believe I saw a poster a while back) I’m just trying to build the courage to come in there and not be disappointed.
You’re probably thinking to yourself, my review or comments don’t really matter to you, or aren’t important, however, I’m a VP with an amazing brand located all over the US, with a majority of our market located in NYC and I’m always looking for places, such as yours to host events. Like I said, you seem very enticing, I just want to be knocked off my feet when I come in. Have a great Monday!
What a disappointment! The pictures and description on Open Table made this place seem upscale and nice for a date night while visiting NYC. It was not. The walls were galvanized steel, the waitresses had on booty shorts do you had to endure their butt cheeks as you ate and they served food. Ewwwww. The food was good but who ever heard of a Mexican restaurant that did not have complimentary chips and salsa. The margaritas were weak and barely had any tequila. Overall my third fail this trip from Open Table recommendations.
Way too loud. I don’t mind noise, it doesn’t typically bother me but the noise level was ridiculous. Drinks were strong, but just ok, food was good, service was decent...but overall I could barely speak to my friend without yelling. We just got an appetizer and didn’t even finish our drink because we decided to leave and go somewhere to chat at a normal decibel level.
Nice place, great with kids, but more like a sports bar. Not the ambiance I was expecting. Food is good but very expensive for nachos and tacos.
We needed a place for a group in Herald Square and I came across Habanero Blues - all of us got something different and everyone really liked it! I was really impressed that both the rice and beans were vegetarian, and the Avocado Frito tacos were delicious. Good tip - you can choose 3 different tacos from the options to try several! Our server was really nice and didn’t rush us at all (we were a little slow to order). During the week I’m sure it’s mobbed but on a Saturday night in the summer it was not so busy so we could still hear each other. Recommended!
