Habanas Cuban Cuisine
Service was great but food was bland and overpriced. Tried multiple items off the menu and nothing was special. Empanadas were cold and undercooked. Cost wasn’t worth the taste. Would recommend possibly since others seem to like this place, but I won’t be going back.
Our first time trying a Cuban restaurant and it did not disappoint. The food was colorful and tasty, and the mixed drinks were creative. We started with the beef empanadas, and an order of the calamari. The beef empanadas were bite sized sitting on some lettuce and topped with some sauce. Looked like thousand island dressing, but it matched the warm and crispy empanadas. The lettuce were a bit wilted, maybe it soaked most of the oil from the fried empanadas. We didn't care for it much, as the empanadas were the main attraction. The calamari on the other hand could be a little bit more crispier too, but the light batter was just right served with a side cilantro sauce. Main courses that we ordered, Ropa Vieja (braised beef) with sofrito, Churrasco steak, Paella, Salmon (not in the menu now), and plantain crusted halibut. All were excellent except for the Churrasco steak. It was cooked well done, when we requested medium rare, and the sofrito and bean mixed rice was bland compared to their regular sofrito, which was quite good. There was a DJ playing local music, so it can get pretty loud, but unless you're not looking for a quiet place to dine, this is a lively place to go. We'll go back if we're in the area. $50 per person with 1 drink.
Great music, fun vibe and very good food and cocktails too.
Food was barely average. Crab cakes were ok but Seafood in paella were over cooked, pork chop was thin and dry, halibut was over cooked. Moscow Mule was diluted or not enough alcohol. Been there twice in 2 mos. Good thing we had a Groupon. Not going there again.
All their food and drinks is excellant and very friendly staff
The food was not as good as it has been in the past. At first I thought it was just me but we both agreed.
I have been at this restaurant 3 times and this is the first time when I thought the food was just not all that good. My friend ordered crab cakes and mango gazpacho which she liked. I ordered the avocado salad which was good, but the arroz con pollo tasted like nothing. The chicken had no taste. You cannot cook a fresh chicken and have it with no taste, so my feeling is that the chicken was cooked a few days earlier and then frozen and reheated. The saffron rice on which it was served was also tasteless. Another friend and I were here about 3 yrs ago and the arroz con pollo was excellent, so I don't know what happened. It was a very disappointing meal and I doubt I will ever return.
I had the paella, the version with seafood, chicken and seafood. It was really excellent and the chorizo was the best I've had--not too spicy or salty. My drink, an $8 malibu mojito, was also excellent. I would come back and order the same items!
The colorful decor and paintings had a Cuban ambiance. The food was delicious; there was a good selection. The platanos (plaintains) were so sweet, just the way I like them.
The place was great, but there was a party going on with screaming kids. The distracted from the evening a bit. The food was excellent. The service was very good.
Service was great, canned music was very loud where our table was but our server kindly had it lowered. The food was the problem. I had adobo chicken which was very dry and bland as was the beans and rice. My husband had fish which was also very dry and a bit bland. Son had Paella which he said was pretty good.
It's was a great experience. And it was a great night. It was very lively, people were eating as some people was dancing to the live music.
We went on a Friday and the experience was amazing. The Latin atmosphere was refreshing and needed! The live band were very entertaining and bartenders absolutely attentive
The food is highly overpriced for the quality. It was bland with zero flavors. I have had much better Cuban food at far less of a price.
We’ve actually tried this place a couple of times in hopes it would get better - it hasn’t. The best part of my meal the other night was the strawberry mint julip!
Not a lot of places still offer a dining experience with Live Music! The food and service is very good as well.
Food was fantastic as always. Musical guest was a guitarist who strolled through the restaurant.
The mojitos were delicious. Decor is attractive but the temperature was way too cold for relaxed dining. Food was average & I would recommend going there for drinks instead. We were there mid afternoon & looked at dirty plates from earlier diners throughout the entire meal. The hostess apologized but did nothing, and two servers ignored them as well. There was one other table of diners in the restaurant at the time. Either hire an afternoon bus boy or make it part of the job description that everyone buses dirty dishes. Ambiance took a major hit! It’s an attractive place with good potential-just needs some attention to the basics.
Great neighborhood place - the food is good, the service is great, and the ambiance is fun. The only problem with our reservation was that OpenTable overbooked them, and they couldn't seat us when we arrived. Not a big deal, we just waited at the bar & they comped us our drinks. Because it was Valentine's Day, everybody - both my husband & I included - got a rose & a heart-shaped box of chocolate at the end of the meal, which was sweet.
The restaurant seemed to be understaffed, especially for Valentine's Day. There were only 1 or 2 servers and 1 bartender for the entire restaurant. Customers were waiting to order, then waiting 30 minutes for drinks, then waiting to pay after dinner.
Firstly, the hostess said my reservation was 'overbooked' by Opentable so my reservation could not be granted. The hostess did offer alternative tables, for which I suggested sitting at the bar instead. I first ordered a mojito and waters but I only got the waters. I had to get the bartender's attention again to reorder the mojito. Second, I ordered the Adobo Chicken and my date ordered the Cuban Burger with a side of Platano Maduro. After 30 minutes of waiting for our food, the bar tender finally asked us what we ordered, so I repeated our order to him which he responded "Oh, that's right! We ran out of burgers". My date ordered another thing, and after 20 more minutes her plate comes out while I wait another 10 minutes for mine. Short story long, my plate consisted of a mediocre tasteless chicken fillet, rice (the only thing I enjoyed), and what tasted like black canned beans. My date liked hers (although I think she was very hungry after all that wait and a bit shy to tell me how she felt). I will not be returning to dine at Habanas.
The food was well flavored and we enjoyed everything we had. However, the medium-rare ribeye I ordered was close to well-done. The service, on the other hand, was very inattentive and slow, resulting on the mediocre rating.
The food delicious. A friendly helpful server, I will definitely go back and highly recommend.
First time to a Cuban restaurant so we were exploring the menu with the help of our server. Lots of Tapas to choose from. The ambiance was great! It’s not a large restaurant and the balance of space, decorations, and tables’ arrangement worked very well so one would not feel crowded but it always felt inviting. We didn’t know love music would begin at 8:00PM so we paused and enjoyed the band for a few minutes on our way out. Highly recommend Habanas for a date or a fun new experience.
The menu offered a good variety of tapas and entrees. The drink I had was also good. Would definitely return and bring friends.
Enjoyed first time visit.... service was excellent
Food was good....
Food very very good. Loved the house soup. A bit drafty in January. Nice specialty drinks.
Very delicious food. Everyone enjoyed the appetizer, their entrees, and the breaded pudding dessert. The server was friendly and provided information and suggestions for the entrees. The service was a bit on the slow side though.
Went with my Cuban friend. We both really enjoyed it. Great tapas, halibut entree good, but lacked the crust that was advertised. But still was tasty. Lived the live music on Friday night. We are going back
Great food and service will be coming back.
Lively atmosphere. Delicious tapas & drinks.
Maduros con crema!
Mojitos were good, the beer was cold, the lamb was great. The veggies that accompanied the chicken were tasty but the half chicken itself was poorly reheated (cool in the center, not very moist, nothing special as far as seasoning). Service was attentive and live salsa (Cuban style, with a bit of cha cha cha) was super fun. During sets, reggaeton played overhead. Next time, we will order a different dish than chicken but were quite pleased overall with the food
As noted, the service ambiance and value were very good. Our server and the kitchen accommodated our request for quick service as one of our party had to leave earlier than planned. The tapas items were well made and the pork stew was good also but the tuna dish was a bit overcooked and tasteless as were the sides of rice and corn. We noticed that they were going to have live music in the bar area later and many people were there to hear it and have the excellent cocktails offered.
The food was disappointing, but the drinks were excellent. Service was good. Would go back for drinks, but would skip the food.
Our server was good and the food are terrific. It met our expectations compared from the last time. Big improvements on everything.
Food was good. Very poor service. Added a soup on my bill which I didn't order.
Second time there and just as good as the first. Had the lechon this time and it was so moist and yummy. Waitress was so friendly and did not try to rush us. Great value for what you get.
Great friendly place!!! Great servers and the tapas are sooooooo tasty. The bar is great too..Love the live music!!!!
Local spot in downtown Alameda. Mojoto Mondays & Seafood Paella is all you need with a shrimp ceviche for starters. Yumola!!!
This restaurant should be removed from OpenTable due to poor management. We made a reservation with OpenTable at 11:30am. We arrived early and the restaurant was not open yet so we waited. Around 11:30am we saw staff inside but still the doors were not open. At 11:40am we called the restaurant twice from outside and they did not answer. At 11:45am we left to have lunch at Trabacco at South Shore, a much better and well managed restaurant. OpenTable has been good for reservations at some of my favorite places. However, I will never go back to Habanas in Alameda due to terrible management that would take reservations and then not open the restaurant on time. It is completely disrespectful of their customers and a sign of very poor management.
We enjoyed the Cuban food and the music. There was a live band which added to the night. The drinks were not the strongest but they were still good. Not sure why there are two different paellas but the one I ordered was delicious. We will back.
