Everything was good except for the ambiance. From my seat at our table, I was looking at a wall that desperately needed painting. There were big chips in the paint all over the wall that I was facing, which really took the place down a notch in my opinion. The hostess at first wanted to seat us right in front of the Rest Room door, and I refused. Who wants that? Food and service were good, but until they spruce up the place , I'll wait to go back.
I went on 4th of July. I reserved a table but got the worst table in the restaurant. Then our waitress was really bad drinks were forgotton our menu was taken after we ordered only appetizers to start. We had to ask another waitress for a menu. We had to ask another waitress for napkins and bowls and to oil are grill. She was really bad. Then she added food that we did order. Then she did not take a discount of check. She rolled her eyes at me a lot. It was a real bad experience. Her name was stephanie and if i go back i dont want her serving me. I tipped her like 5% Of bill cause service was bad
I had dined at other Gyu-Kaku locations before (West L.A., Beverly Hills, Torrance) but this was my first time at the Valencia location. It's the first Gyu-Kaku I've seen that offers outdoor dining (a small outdoor area outside the restaurant, which is located in a suburban strip mall-- nothing fancy). It's a relatively small Gyu-Kaku and was a little less clean than their other locations, but not dirty/messy enough to be discouraged from eating there. This restaurant offers meats and sides you order and cook on a grill at your table, as well as pre-made dishes (for those who don't want to grill the food themselves). We ordered the limited time offer of premium AYCE for $40 per person, which was a great value in light of the selection, quality, and variety of foods offered on the menu. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Though I probably wouldn't return to this location due to distance, it's a good place to go for lunch or dinner.
I've been here before and don't remember the food being so salty. Maybe it was a fluke, but overall the food had too much pepper and salt. The service was good, they were attentive to our needs; our waters were always filled. The desert was a big upset. My wife bit into the chocolate cream filled brownie and found a piece of plastic. It was big enough to cause some damage had she swallowed it. She thought she had bit into caramel.
At any rate, they gave us 15% off the entire meal, which amounted to us paying 60 bucks instead of 65. I won't go there again.
I must say that Inwas displeased with the service this time. Waiter appeared distracted. After 3rd time he got my order wrong he could be over heard laughing it off to other coworkers . It was just not the service I expected . I come here ALL the time and this was the worst experience by far.
Either Gyu's overall food quality has taken a dive or this location is just the worst Gyu-Kaku/chef in the chain. It's already very expensive for the amount of food you get.
The 1st thing to hit our table was the Spicy Tuna Volcano we've had many times before. This time, the "tuna" looked like it was "just add water" tuna mix (if that's a thing)! It was nude colored, fluffy/whipped texture, tuna flavor..extremely WEIRD! Definitely stay away from anything chicken! ...The smores desserts were a mild redemption. Even the Christmas gifts they gave us (coupons) will NOT bring us back, sadly.
I've been to this location 3-4 times in the past. After this visit, my entire family agreed that we will not be back. All the meat was tough, including the scallops believe it or not. The salmon was decent. Our table grill would not get hot enough. The service was OK. The tab for 3 of us, 2 adults and 1 child was ~$110. It's disappointing because we used to like this place. Maybe they recently changed meat suppliers? We're all sad about this...
Been here many times and have always had a good experience. This time I came it must have been the least busy I ever seen it. Our waitress clearly showed that she did not want to be there. She had an attitude with every request we had. The food was fine. My only compliant was the service i received.
I've done Korean and Japanese bbq before so none of this was a surprise. It can be an amazing experience or something easy and fun. This is more the latter. I didn't realize how many people on a Saturday night would bring crying babies to this place. Oh well...
The amount of food was good - we were all full. I guess I would've liked it better if it was a little darker and a lot less crying babies. Did I mention all the babies? (Btw I like kids!)
We made a reservation and still had to wait for thirty mins. When people that did not have reservations got in a second before us and got seated first. You should seat those with reservations first as that's why you make one. Not to wait thirty mins like every non reservation. We said something and nothing was done. For people who come all the time this is unexplainable and we feel like taking business elsewhere.
Clients took me here for dinner a few weeks ago and I just loved it. The food and flavors are excellent and I enjoyed the fun of cooking the food at the table. There are a wide variety of meats, seafood, and vegetables to choose from. Go a-la-cart or for newbies you can select from a few offerings for 2 which comes with appetizer, salad, meats, and garlic rice or noodles..............oh and dessert. It's a whole experience that allows you to take your time, enjoy the process, and delight in the wonderful food. I've been here on a Thursday and Saturday night, and while both nights were buzzing with people and all the tables were full (by the way make a reservation, especially Fri/Sat night), the service, guidance, and attention was great. I will go back again and again.
