Gyu-Kaku - Tustin Ratings and Reviews
I have had good experiences with this restaurant and location before, so I was surprised by what transpired during my most recent visit. Checked in at reservation time for dinner, was told I would be seated soon. 30 minutes passed, so I inquired as to when my 4-person party would be seated, and was informed it would likely be another 25-30 minutes. I left. I'm not upset they didn't honor my reservation; I'm upset they didn't inform me at the start that I wouldn't be seated anytime soon. What a waste of time.
As usual at this location, service was bad. Although, Neeva was awesome. Where our main waitress dropped the ball, as soon as Neeva came on shift, we had all that we needed. The main waitress would eventually refill sodas, but leave the old glasses. Neeva did it all and got us extra meat. When the main waitress didn’t bring the meat, Neeva found out and got to us within a minute. She rocked!
This place is amazing! I first came here with my long-time boyfriend on our very first date. We recently went back again for his birthday, but we come here very frequently for date nights and casual lunches. We told our waitress to not do the singing thing, but they do group together and sing for your bday if you’re into that sort of thing. Our waitress was awesome, she hooked us up with 2 s’mores for his bday dessert. She was prompt, nice, and recommended the hot sake which was very yummy as well (must have!). The miso soup, edamame, pork gyoza dumplings are our go-to appetizers. Don’t forget to go during their happy hour, the prices are shockingly reasonable for the delicious food.
This was my first time back after they restarted the AYCE options regularly. We had the $40 option with some excellent meat options including Kalbi. Every meat selection was well marinated (unlike some places) and there was no loser out of the bunch. I'll definitely be back for more.
I would recommend that you request not to sit by the door (tables against front wall). We were forgotten about. Refills were never offered, appetizers came after the variety of meat and noodles arrived (and were lukewarm), the hostess at one point could tell we were getting frustrated and tried to help out. The server was annoyed that we were unhappy about her not attending to our table.
We have been to this restaurant many times and love it! But the two times we've sat at this particular table we have had horrible service. Definitely not our best visit...
Music was exquisite while they played Edith Piaf! Food always delicious... Today felt so much different than all other million times we have been there... My Birthday ... No acknowledgement even after MY husband did post that under my open table reservation!!!
As every time, it is a great place to go. Usually we have to wait but this time it was really quick. We took our friends out for dinner at Gyu Kaku for the first time. They loved the food and now it's going to be our hanging out spot! The Manager Juan was very hospitable and so were all the servers👍
The burner wasn't working, this has happened to us a few times. We were asked if we wanted to move to a different table and when we said yes, the server seemed as if it was too complicated to move us (but she was the one that offered). Our waiter disappeared half way through our meal and never said anything or excused himself (this is the second time the same waiter has done this). We come here quite frequently, hopefully this was just a bad day.☹️
Not worth the cost, terrible management and quality of food was sub-par. We had to leave within 20 minutes of getting there because our baby had a meltdown and had to be taken home. Instead of understanding, management charged us the full AYCE cost, over $100, for eating a few items. Will not ever return!
It was great food!! We were a little disappointed with the all you can eat... everyone at the table either gets it or nobody gets it. Price was high!! It was hot and very loud. It didnt seem like the air conditioning could keep up with the crowd of people and cook tops.
It was very busy, painfully noisy, the service was great, the food was pretty good, the cold green tea had even less flavor than you could imagine, the lemonade was really weak, that's the way I like it. I'm a meat freak, but the spinach was probably the best thing, the meat was good too.
