Orders were incorrect, one of the meat orders smelled old, got oil spilled on me. Gave me ice cream to “make up” for the oil spill...
the only negative was how incredibly hot it got in front of the fire. My friend and I were pink in the face and had to put our hair up. I would not recommend this for a first date because you'll leave the restaurant looking like you were in a sauna haha.
The food and service were very good! But the spot is sooo noisy that we could not talk to each other without screaming, so all we did was eat, pay and go back home. The music also was not appropriate. Maybe some bossa nova or loung music will be better, with less bass
We set a reservation and when we checked in with the manager he said it would be 1-3 mins to turn over our table. No problem, except we wound up waiting 20 minutes after our reservation time and continued to watch 3-4 parties that came w/o a reservation or after us be seated. When we checked back in with the manager we were told that our table was given to someone else and then we were seated in the back corner by the bathrooms and bust cart. It was a bummer because we LOVE the food here and you can’t beat the prices at their happy hour.
Very attentive servers. Great food.
This is one of our family's favorite restaurants! The food is so incredibly good and it is really fun to cook it at your table - it is a whole experience. There is always a wait but making a reservation on Open Table seemed to help everything go more smoothly. It is a little pricey but if it wasn't we would be here every single week on family night.
A good option for gathering and fine BBQ. We went for a birthday party, the service was good. The only down side is the noise.
The food was good. The restaurant was under staff
One of my favorite spots to grab dinner with friends or just an intimate diy date night. The service is always fast and thorough. They accommodated moving our group of 4 to a table with 2 grills instead of one with out any issue. The best day to come is Monday when they do happy hour prices all day on food as well as drinks.
Having reservations or walking in doesn’t make any difference. Had to wait 30 min before it was our turn. Only 2 server for the whole place making food arrive late and service poor.
All the meats are incredible. The rib eye and yaki-shabu beef are a couple of our favorites. We tried the dick breast this time and it had such great flavor. The flavors are always on point.
It’s our first time dining at Gyu Kaku. We tried the happy hour which was $50 for two and it was worth it! It’s a full meal that comes with soup, salad, 5 different meat plates, veggie plate and s’mores.
This visit was the worst experience out of the many visits. Very disappointed.
We had a really great meal arbor gyu kaku. We came because of restaurant week and decided to order from that menu. We really enjoyed the many many courses and delicious food! Our waitress went on a break at one point and so we had poor service during her time as our waitress. Otherwise, it was good!
Our server Sophia was the worst, I would not recommend her being a server. She was very disappointing, I really like the food and ambiance but her service was woeful. Hoping servers would get better training in the future, she gave us the wrong amount of food, tried to give us less than what we ordered even though we paid full for it.
The staff went above and beyond to to satisfy our needs
I went to Gyu-Kaku with my husband because of OC Restaurant Week. It's funny because it turned out that their meal set for two ($50) was better than the OC Restaurant Week meal set ($30 each or $60 for two). We actually upgraded to the $58 set which had soup, cheese wontons, japanese chicken, salad, 6 different types of meat (I forgot what they were called), rice and smores. It was a lot of food for 2 people but I loved it! The quality of the meat was pretty good compared to Gen. The servers were nice and accommodating. My only complaint would be the very limited parking. But overall it was a great dining experience. I look forward to coming back for a date night. :)
Horrible service. The only time someone came by was to collect plates, no refilling water, no seeing if the food was good... nothing. It is not an experience I will be repeating ever again.
Great ! I came on Restaurant week. The food and service are great!
Let me start off by saying the food was great as usual. Service however left much to be desired. We went there for a business lunch as well as to celebrate one of our colleague’s birthday. Service was extremely slow- so much so that we ran out of time eating. Food itself took close to 1 hour to come out- which we still have to cook of course. Most of our colleagues scarfed down their meal and dashed out to go back to the office.
In the beginning we told a couple staff including the manager that we had a birthday and we were told that they would sing etc. They completely forgot.
I loved it! We were on lunch break so I told our server we only had an hour. He was attentive and super friendly.
Always the food is fantastic here and the service is normally the service is always outstanding as well, but this time the service was a little slow. First, it took a while for the waitress to come and take our order after we were seated, had constantly request our waitress for refills on drinks or things we needed and when we did, it took her a while to get it to us and even when we asked for out bill it took her a while to bring it to us. Also virtually all the previous visits at this restaurant we usually we were completely finished with out meal from the time we were first seated and paid the bill in a little over an hour to an hour and a half, but on this particular visit, we were there for over 2 hours when we finally finished finished eating and paid our bill.
Family get together with the in-laws. My wife is pescatarian and prefers brown rice, her sister is allergic to shrimp and her fiancé has gout (no beer/no red meat), and the rest of the party is fine with anything. This place has a wide offering on the menu to accommodate everyone and we were all very happy with the meal. We ordered hot sake, cold beers, a bellini, a glass of sparkling wine, beef dishes, chicken dishes, shrimp dishes, and a variety of s'mores. It's not a fast meal so make sure you're with good company.
One of the best Japanese BBQs, I've ever been too. The ambiance was great and food delicious. A big hand goes to the wait staff for all their help picking amazing food selections.
I LOVE Gyu-Kaku in general, though my last two dining experiences haven’t been optimal. My wife and I came back after the disappointment of the Valentine’s bundle only menu ordeal to get their typical al la carte menu for lunch happy hour on a regular Thursday. It took 40 minutes to get our first meats to grill and the service was continuously slow, most likely under staffed. After eating some of our grilled meats, we had asked the waiter to give us just a minute before we were going to order our last couple of meats and some sake to finish, but when he finally came back 10 minutes later, he dropped off the check instead. Didn’t even ask if we wanted dessert. I’m not sure if this will continue to be my wife and my date place in the future. Such a shame; we really do love the food and atmosphere.
They ran out of rice. Yes, a Japanese restaurant ran out of rice. Then they don’t tell you they ran out of rice until your ten minutes into your meal. So it’s gonna be a while until your rice dishes are ready. How long I ask....15-20 mins! Oh but good news, we have brown rice for your rice dishes and will substitute it and at no charge. Damn well better be no charge, but we will wait. Overheard from another table “I’m sorry we ran out of Kalbi bone-in meat. Hmmm, the Manager came over and was super sweet. She expressed her embarrassment and offered to bring us some additional meat to try, for free. Sure, we will try the Japanese sausages. 15 mins later. I’m sorry sir this is embarrassing, we ran out of the Japanese sausages. All in all the service is, as usual is severely lacking. I took quite a while to get our salad and soup. This place always seems to have a new manager.
It was also our anniversary and they wished us well, but never celebrated it. It was overly disappointing as well as
This location is an embarrassment to the Gyu Kaku chain as well as Japanese hospitality. Save you time, money and frustrations and go to the Huntington Beach location.
I had my birthday dinner here the other day and was very disappointed with the food and the service. We had three different servers during our whole course of meal. We continuously had to wave a server down.. one time I had to get off my seat to get someone’s attention.. I won’t be returning to this location.
Went to this place for lunch in the middle of the week. We got there before the lunch rush. We were serviced right away and got our food on time. the server was attentive, friendly and prompt. Overall, it was a great time. I have no complaints. I'll definitely be coming back another time.
We’ve eaten at the one on Oahu and they set the standard for service. Our bim bowl was out within minutes so we could add our cooked meat, there was a great flow of items arriving at table. We felt we were constantly asking for the next item here tonight. Everything tasted pretty good except the cheese wontons which some were “empty” shells and no cheese. Overall not bad but the timing of service could be improved. Waitstaff super friendly.
We waited too long in between ordering food to the point where we weren’t able to thoroughly enjoy our food. If you’re going to put a 90 minute time limit for all you can eat options food should come out more consistently not having to wait 30 minutes for your next order to come out.
Everything was good but the food came out a little out of order. Appetizer came out after food. Salad came out later than usual. Nothing too bad and usually doesn't happen so it didn't ruin anything for me. Just a note for future improvement.
Great for a different dining experience. Plenty of meat and non-meat to choose from to grill, and side items without the grill. A la carte ordering during happy hour is the best bang for your buck but set menus are good if you want a little of everything. The atmosphere makes for easy conversation while you grill though it can get a bit noisy when it’s the lunch or dinner rush. Overall a great place to take a date or get to know someone.
Great time, great service and outstanding food.
Had a great time! Service was quick and friendly. Food was really good!
Great food and service!
Service was slow but the staff was aware of this. Our items came out slow and very scattered. Our server comped our desert which was nice. Overall good experience but the timing of the food coming could be better.
Service was great food was great but it was a little noisy. Nothing the staff could control. Great experience, as always, and I would eat there again.
My new favorite BBQ spot. Food was WONDERFRULand our waitress Vanes sa was a sweetheart
Les plats toujours tres bon mais l’accUeil est à revoir. Le personnel est mou. Manque de tonus
Frequent customer - good food - great value - fun. Truly unique.
