Gyu-Kaku - Times Square Ratings and Reviews
Staff is very nice loveeee with a passion one of the bartenders she a blue dress on love that place food is good wish there was a little more poultry to the menu and seafood but I heard every location is different but other then that this place will be my go to hangout with friends , girlfriend, etc.
The noise level depends on the time, the closer to the night the noisier it gets, but it is not that bad you can have conversations without yelling.
Totally Recommended place. I have eaten there for lunch and dinner. and if your table is not ready yet, you can try the awesome cocktails at the bar.
truly terrible. really bad food. wildly overpriced . felt dirty. we live in NY so to get caught in tourist trap like this one made it feel even worse. we had never been to this restaurant and thought it would be ok given prior reviews. it was not. i have never reviewed any restaurant before but feel we want to warn others. (btw the waiter did his best to make the experience better for us)
Food was really sub par this time. We are big fans of Gyu Kaku but will not return. Meat was fatty and had lots of white cartilage. We even upgraded and chose the higher quality meats, and they were still full of fibrous tissue that was chewy and tough. Service was also very sub par, we ordered fried rice which only came after we asked 2 different servers for it, and only after everything was already cooked. We had no specific server, and no one came over to check on us, or to make sure if everything was ok. No one offered dessert or coffee, and we essentially just asked for our check and ended our meal. No one came to change the grill, as they usually do, until we also had to ask for that. Really disappointing meal.
We thouroughly enjoyed our food. The appetizer with the fried rice and spicy tuna was delicious. Cooking our own food on the table grill was a ton of fun and my teenagers really liked it.
The downside was the service. We waited for half an hour past our reservation time to be seated. That would have been ok. I understand, busy Friday night, but then... The hostess who took us to our table told us since they were busy we had a two hour maximum at the table and if we weren’t done on time, we would be asked to leave. Just rubbed me the wrong way. We had a show to get to, so the time constraint was not a problem - but a threat instead of an apology was enough to earn a negative review on the service. We got our meat first and expected the veggies, but when they didn’t come, we finally stopped someone to ask for them. Rice came 10 minutes after that. Not sure if that is how it always is, or if the busy Friday night meant that things were served sporadically. Then one of the 4 waiters who took turns taking care of our table turned off our burner. He hadn’t brought us our s’mores dessert. So that was another issue.
Truth is the food was excellent, and it was a fun evening. I’d like to go back on a slow Tuesday night or for lunch and see how the whole thing should be served. Despite the service it was a good time with good food.
I have been to the W 44th St. location twice. The food is fresh and the waitstaff is friendly and accommodating. It's a loud restaurant, but in a happy way. The booths in the back are very comfortable, although it is a good idea to ask your waitperson to turn the grill down. The portions are generous and a very good deal during happy hour.
I liked the idea of cooking at the table. But, I felt it was very much a tourist spot and a chain mentality. Very loud. The staff was helpful and friendly but I felt it all a bit worn out. I felt the portions were small. Too touristy for me.
For Korean BBQ, I think next time I'll head to Korean Town.
Whenever we have visitors, Gyu-Kaku will always be on our list of choices to eat. I know they will never be disappointed with where I’m taking them. Don’t forget to try the Toro beef, melts in your mouth kind of meat! Always a very pleasant experience whenever we eat.
Very accommodating! My daughter is 10 months old and was sleeping in the stroller my husband and I wanted to have dinner here so they gave us a big table so we could fit the stroller in with us. I felt bad that we were clearly taking up a party table but they seemed to be fine with it so that my daughter could sleep. Our server Em was fantastic!! Very helpful and on top of everything. I would totally recommend this place!!! Ps. The food was awesome!!!
it was interesting to be told that for a reservation made for 7:00pm days in advance, that we would have to commit to leaving the table by 8:30. I've never experienced this before and was a bit surprised. However, I knew that once I sat down, we would finish when we finished and would leave when ready, so it really didn't make a difference.
However, they did start by trying to serve very, very quickly, but after being asked to slow down, they did and the rest of the evening went great. It was a unique dining experience, the server's recommendations about what to choose, and just as importantly, how much, were spot on. It would be very easy to over-order, so this was helpful and very welcome.
All in all, a fun, energetic spot that was a perfect destination for our daughter's 16th birthday.
I’ve been the Gyu-Kaku many times and it’s always been a great experience every time. Our server Angellie was great, she check up on my friend and myself to see if everything was ok. Food is great every time, absolutely love the garlic fried rice!!! Definitely would recommend this place to friends and family members.
We had a pre-theater dinner here for our anniversary, and glad we did. Lively, fun to cook your own, (in a specially designed grill in the center of the table that draws the smoke downward) and tasty food. Service was speedy and friendly. Don’t expect a quiet meal, though. Would be a great place for a birthday celebration (one was going on next to us).
Gyu-Kaku is a very energetic venue offering habachi grill foods , soup, noodle dishes and more.
Service is great. Our server Nutcha was careful to explain menu choices and how long to grill the meats, shrimp, chicken and vegetables. We took advantage of a first visit offer which included multiple course including miso soup, salad, Volcano roll, the grilled potion and dessert.
Gyu-Kaku is not a quiet place as music is playing . Hard to hold a conversation. Food though was enjoyable and we enjoyed the experience.
