Our server Nutcha was a terrible server. The first time we called her to put an order, she noticed me calling her but she turned her back toward to us, ignored and kept chatting with her co-worker for a couple more minutes. Then finally she came over and she apologized.
I asked her if they have Korean pancakes because many Japanese BBQ restraints have it. The she lectured me that they are Japanese restaurant so they don’t have it.
While she was putting our order in the system, I asked her if I can put some more order. She was so annoyed and told us
“ Is that it? Because you are calling me to many times “
We were going to order more food but decided not to, ate whatever we ordered before and left and went to a different restaurant. We are in the restaurant business also and couldn’t believe that Gyukaku has a untrained rude server like Nutcha.
We had a great time on our last visit! The food is great and the BBQ experience there is something different and fun to do with a group.
Very good ambient. Good food. Good service. Overall an outstanding experience. Definitely doing it again!!!
Gyu Kaku hasn't skipped a beat even after the pandemic. Service, attentiveness, friendliness, quality, quantity, and overall value are just as great if not better than I remember.
Great restaurant for folks who want to try yakiniku (Japanese take on Korean BBQ) and don't want to be intimidated by a menu. The meal sets are well priced and offer good range. Service is pleasant and efficient. Atmosphere is buzzy and exciting.
This was our first time trying this chain and we won’t return. Two of our meat selections were very tough to the point that some slices were inedible. Many of the slices of steak were very unevenly cut - more like chunks. Rice was barely warm.
Expect to cook own food on grill on center of table, holiday course is a good choice for first time visitors.
It took 30 minutes to be seated even with a reservation. Other than that the food was good and service was solid. A very good take on Japanese Yalu-niku style restaurant.
Please know you need reservations to eat here. The food was great and there was a lot of it. The waitress was nice and explained everything. They sat us down on time. It was a little dark so I wasn’t able to see how cooked the meat was at times but other than that it was a great experience.
Great food. Wide selection. Great service. The one negative is that they don't have hot tea.
The food is good, and the staff is helpful and attentive. One member of our party of four was running late, and they explained that we had a ninety-minute seating, so it was up to us if we wanted to wait for her or go to the table. We went ahead and were seated. Our waiter cheerfully explained the menu options, most of which involve grilling or steaming meats and vegetables at the table. I wasn’t expecting to cook a dinner I pay for, but everyone else was looking forward to it and enjoyed their meals. I ordered a spicy beef ramen, which was delicious. Great for a cold night. (There are a few ramen options and several small plates that the kitchen cooks; my daughter enjoyed hers.) Everyone enjoyed their desserts as well (sorbet, mochi ice cream, and lava cake). We stayed longer than ninety minutes, and the staff didn’t rush us. The restaurant was loud. Music blared and voices competed with the music. The staff didn’t play around with their own masking; all of them covered their nose and mouth. Plexiglass barriers between the booths helped, and the restaurant was well ventilated. At least where we sat, we felt a constant flow of air, and we weren’t anywhere near a window. The only thing that might keep me from going back is the noise level. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.
Grabbed dinner before a show, and it was lovely. The service was quick and friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. We ordered two types of meat, along with the miso chili wings and yuzu shishito peppers, and everything was great.
Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere!
Memo was a great server, he was so helpful and sweet!
Please be kind when visiting restaurants - staffing levels are still lower than pre-pandemic and they are doing the best they can to provide the best possible service!
It was great as always!
Great food and service
Truly yummy and great atmosphere
Good music, good food, good service. Nice bathroom, friendly hostess.
The food was nothing shy of absolutely amazing. Would recommend.
Always great experiences at this restaurant. Have been lucky enough to dine either in suburban Chicago, Hawaii & now New York. Very friendly and outgoing staff. Great selection of items as well as a different drinks and sakes. Never disappoints.
The meat wasn’t as usually, tasted weird
Great food, one of my favorite restaurants. Service here was poor our waiter kept forgetting to bring our plates. I go to their flushing location more frequently their service is better and they all greet you once you go in.
Gyu Kaku is always a ton of fun. Service was excellent and attentive, and we had a great time! They no longer close the metal curtains between tables (I assume to help with airflow during Covid) which means it’s not as intimate as before, but we had a great time.
Amazing and good food. A Plus was the food was not to pricy
The service and the food was great! Also great atmosphere!
We were in a rush to get to a show and our server got our food and check to us FAST.
We were running late, and they were very accommodating. I really appreciated how well they handled the covid protocols. The wait staff was very helpful and attentive. The food was delicious. We, unfortunately, were in a rush due to theatre tickets, but still enjoyed a fun and tasty meal. We will definitely go back for a more leisurely dinner!
Very nice. I would come back again
Food and drinks 10/10 per usual
Good service and friendly environment
Excellent food and experience all around
I love this restaurant because I can choose the ingredients and cook them myself. I get a variety of items and enjoy a meal at my own pace. The food is good quality and cooks relatively quickly. Highly recommended.
They recently changed the times for their happy hour. Someone from the restaurant called me to inform me of the change and asked if I would like to switch the time of my reservation.
Everything was excellent
