I came to this this restaurant because my girlfriend highly recommended. This was my first time at Gyu-Kaku. I made an open table reservation at 10:30 pm. We arrive an hour early hoping to be able to get in but we did have to wait until our reservation time to be seated. Since it was a Friday night it was understandable and did not mind to wait however the hostess Sarah was extremely rude and was not friendly at all. That is where we became frustrated and impatient. As we approached the host desk our greeting was "gimme a minute". After waiting for her to finish whatever she was doing she checked us in and told us we would most likely have to wait until our reservation time. As we sat by the door and waited she kept looking at us and saying things to the other host. Once 10:30 approached I got up and asked the other hostess if we could be seated. They sat us and Sarah still seemed a bit frustrated with us for god knows what. We were seated in the far right side of the restaurant in the back. At this point we were extremely upset. We waited for exactly 5 minutes and were not approached by anyone. I got up and asked for the manager in the back. When I spoke to the manager I explained our situation. He told me he would send someone over and take care of some stuff for us in a non apologetic and annoyed manner. I did not want anything free, I just wanted to have a good dining experience with my girlfriend and some service. Our server came to the table shortly after. Our food came out promp after ordering and tasted great. The table next to us was a group of 4 that was obviously drunk and was extremely loud during the whole dinner. This group of people were not only loud but extremely vulgar and swearing every other word. I could not believe the manager would allow that kind of behavior in his establishment. Great food but definitely not worth the terrible experience and overall attitude of the staff. They all definitely need some training on how to treat guests.
Made a reservation on Open Table 30 min prior to arriving. The hostess was quick and efficient finding my res then proceeded to seat us , very smooth. Jerry was our server for the evening and he was fantastic. The food is always great and the drinks were nice too. Highly recommend the "bip N bop" rice bowl with egg and beef.
The staff was amazing. The manager accommodated a special request for the booths in the back corner to be joined. Worked out perfectly for our dinner. Food was amazing as usual!! Love the Bev Hills location. 1st time at Sherman Oaks. Larger, cool bar area and perfect dining area. Thanks! Definitely a go to for us from now on.
I came here for Sunday lunch. They have lunch specials everyday until 5pm. It's a great deal, you get a lot of options. The food was delicious, but Jared our sever is always the highlight of our visit. Seriously, he goes above and beyond to make sure everything is great. He has a great attitude and the only reason we exclusively come to this gyu kaku. Best gyu kaku in the valley area for sure; in terms of food quality, customer service, and cleanliness.
Food is delicious, and cooking at your own table is always an experience. Menus are a little confusing, but worth navigating. Great place to go for a birthday or other celebration. In fact, I think every single person in the restaurant was having a birthday.
I came in for the 4th of July all you can eat, the menu really didn't have great options so I didn't even order the all you can eat. Ended up choosing my own single items, it was great because it was still happy hour so some items were on a discounted price. I did notice happy hour prices are limited and have increased. It was so hot inside!! Hotter than the usual KBBQ places
Great casual Japanese grill spot! Massive selection of meats with a few vegetables thrown in. Fun to grill your own meat so it comes out just the way you like it. Prices fair for the portions, especially during Happy Hour or opting for one of the all you can eat options (assuming you can eat a lot). Only cons IMO is that the bar area could be nicer, and a full bar (only beer and wine are available) would be even better. The dining area could also use a little freshening up. But these are minor complaints - still recommended. Get there early on weekends or get reservations or the wait will be long.
Was told they could accommodate something for a baby chair and was just told you can just put the baby car seat on a regular chair. And to add insult to injury they had us sit next to the bar...I told the waiter to split bill between our two parties and everything got put into one bill. So nice of him to listen to my instructions that were specific. I also didn't think you guys would train your waiters to check up on tables every 45 mins.
