Gyu-Kaku - San Diego Ratings and Reviews
I’ve been here before, but the friends I’d brought hadn’t. They were blown away by the intimacy of cooking together while at a table. We all took turns grilling various types of meat off the all you can eat premium menu. Steven, our server, your guided us through the menu and was overall phenomenal. My friends and I will definitely be back. Oh and Monday’s they have all day happy hour!!!
Everything here is very flavorful. The salad and the special rise are so tasty. I love the different meats that have been marinated. Grilling at your table is fun too. It gets very noisy inside and makes it even a little hard to hear your friends. The food makes up for the noise levels.
Not very happy with the food. The meat is obviously the cheapest cuts they could find. You get very little for your money. We got the most expensive deal because we wanted to try it all and we did not get enough meat. They try to fill you up with all the nonsense before. Concept is nice, wish the food was better.
Good find for local eatery. Reservations are recommended, it was crowded with lines at the door. Lunch for 2 girlfriends, we had reservations and were seated promptly. Our waitress explained the menu, procedure for cooking your meats and all the extras available.
We enjoyed the fun of cooking at the table over drinks and conversation. Food was very good. We had the lunch specials. The music was too loud for our taste, but we were able to ignore it.
Service was good, food came in short order, considering every table in the place was occupied.
We did feel a little rushed when the check came, our waitress asked us twice if she could take it ,when we had not even opened the bill yet. You can see why when there are people waiting outside. All in all, a good experience.
My family loves this place! I don't really eat meat, but they do have shrimp and rice and a delicious Kimchi Tofu. We go every few months, but this last time we went to celebrate one of our son's birthdays. It's really cute that the staff sings and that they bring a smore's dessert, my boy felt special. Thank you!
The service was great. the food was great. I was stuffed.
maybe the only thing I would changed is the cheese stuffed wontons. the cheese just melts into wonton and the cheese does not get any taste. I would use cream cheese instead. it holds better when fried and has a great taste and that is what everyone is expecting when the order them, to have cream cheese in them. I will not order them again. other than that everything else is great!!!!
This is a great restaurant for everyday dinner or a special occasion. Food is tasty and fresh and fun to cook. The sets come with a great assortment of meat with veg. The shishito peppers and cabbage appetizer were delicious! The meats are very good. Great ambiance and location. We had a large party and took up 2 tables with different servers. One table had great service and received all of their items in the set in a timely manner and received everything they asked for. Our table had a different server who was not attentive at all. We didn't get everything we ordered and had to ask for the rest of it. We asked for rice several times before getting it. We asked for soy sauce three times and never did get that. It was a bummer but would still give this place another chance.
Food was great but the wait for each dish was soo late. We should have had shrimp first then to beef for the grill sake as well. The waitress seemed trying hard but... It will be a while to go there next time as it was not smooth operation at all.
Our reservation was for 3:45, we finally got seated at past 4:00. We ordered the drinks at 4:10, and the all you can eat course at 4:15 when she brought us the drinks, but the food didn't come out until close to 4:45. We were told that it was a 90 minutes course but the service was very slow and it took a long time to get our food. Even though they didn't rush us to leave, we left the restaurant at 7:35. We had our kids with us so we purposely made reservation for an early dinner, but almost four hours at a restaurant was just too much. In the middle of our meal our server left without letting us know but we were able to tell another server that it was my daughter's birthday and they brought a special dessert and sang happy birthday to her, which was very nice. However, they need to come up with a better system regarding the all you can eat course. Also, there was a very loud party of women that were laughing like hyenas, kind of annoying.
always fun to eat here. i always think it's not a lot of food, then we end up full. one day i'll have to do the all-you-can-eat, but they shouldn't put a time limit on that. if you do, then don't call it all you can eat. call it "all you can eat in 90 minutes" it can get pretty pricey with all the uncharges ADD $3 here, ADD $4 there, ETC. menu is so overwhelming it can be easy to get lost and confused and dump a ton of dough.
Worst service ever from a sit down restaurant. Our order was all messed up, the different meats we ordered all came out sporadically and we had to ask about certain items at least four times. Asked for rice and the server said it'll be 10 more minutes or so because they ran out, still no rice 20 minutes later but I see the service staff on break helping themselves to bowls of steaming rice. Eventually got our rice but only long after all but one plate of our meats had been cooked and eaten. They brought out the appetizer we ordered after we finished our meal and ordered smores for desert - cancelled it. Just don't go here. It sucks.
