Gyu-Kaku - San Diego Ratings and Reviews
Our group was there for a late lunch/early dinner time (4:00). The foods and lunch special deals are great catches, but it took almost 1 hr after the order was taken for our appetizers and side dishes to arrive, and this was after we reminded the waitress of this fact, and we had told her when were seated that we had a concert to go to afterwards.
Overall, the foods tasted authentic, we would go again for a more leisurely experience
We had a fun dinner date at Gyu-KaKu! Our waiter was fantastic, energetic, and attentive. His recommendations were spot on and a wise use of our dollars. This was a family friendly environment, so we did not have a very "quiet" date. And with folks grilling their own food, expect some odors from those "very well done" cuts of meat. This fun atmosphere will be a place you can find us again.
Service was terrible, waitress kept forgetting items we ordered or bringing us the items not made how we asked them to be prepared. Prices have gone up significantly, and the amount of items on happy hour menu have gone down. Discountinued some of our favorite items (seaweed salad). Won’t be coming back to this location again, would rathe go to Huntington Beach or Tustin.. far better locations.
Food is great! The only thing that is not so perfect is the waiting time. We (party of 4) reserved 7:45PM and arrived at 7:20, but they kept us waiting until 8:15PM while seated a few other parties before us. They said the reason is because “The previous party seated on the table reserved for us didn’t leave”, which is not a great reason...
First of all, If you think Korean All you can eat BBQ and Japanese BBQ(Yakiniku) are the same, you are WRONG! lol.
My colleagues and I had "Enkai party-Course" ($29/person) a couple of days ago and already want to go back !!!
You will enjoy their fresh meat cooked over the charcoal grill.
+ great customer service :)
Food was good as usual, but manager was a little pushy. He got a little snippy because when we cooked our meat and it got a little more smoky than usual. He said (in not so nice a way) that we would set off the alarm and annoy other customers. Guess he didn’t care about annoying this customer.
This place serves minorities last. We got our table and waited a good 15 minutes before a waiter notices and told me someone will be over. After 10 minutes, we finally got our order in. However, we had to wait another 10 minutes for a glass of beer and a few minutes more just for appetizers. Meanwhile we see the manager walk around chatting up with one table for a good half hour. The rest is pretty much the same. Wait forever for your dish which maybe has four slices of beef. The attached pic shows our table. Doesn't look appetizing does it...
I’ve been here before, but the friends I’d brought hadn’t. They were blown away by the intimacy of cooking together while at a table. We all took turns grilling various types of meat off the all you can eat premium menu. Steven, our server, your guided us through the menu and was overall phenomenal. My friends and I will definitely be back. Oh and Monday’s they have all day happy hour!!!
Everything here is very flavorful. The salad and the special rise are so tasty. I love the different meats that have been marinated. Grilling at your table is fun too. It gets very noisy inside and makes it even a little hard to hear your friends. The food makes up for the noise levels.
Not very happy with the food. The meat is obviously the cheapest cuts they could find. You get very little for your money. We got the most expensive deal because we wanted to try it all and we did not get enough meat. They try to fill you up with all the nonsense before. Concept is nice, wish the food was better.
Good find for local eatery. Reservations are recommended, it was crowded with lines at the door. Lunch for 2 girlfriends, we had reservations and were seated promptly. Our waitress explained the menu, procedure for cooking your meats and all the extras available.
We enjoyed the fun of cooking at the table over drinks and conversation. Food was very good. We had the lunch specials. The music was too loud for our taste, but we were able to ignore it.
Service was good, food came in short order, considering every table in the place was occupied.
We did feel a little rushed when the check came, our waitress asked us twice if she could take it ,when we had not even opened the bill yet. You can see why when there are people waiting outside. All in all, a good experience.
My family loves this place! I don't really eat meat, but they do have shrimp and rice and a delicious Kimchi Tofu. We go every few months, but this last time we went to celebrate one of our son's birthdays. It's really cute that the staff sings and that they bring a smore's dessert, my boy felt special. Thank you!
The service was great. the food was great. I was stuffed.
maybe the only thing I would changed is the cheese stuffed wontons. the cheese just melts into wonton and the cheese does not get any taste. I would use cream cheese instead. it holds better when fried and has a great taste and that is what everyone is expecting when the order them, to have cream cheese in them. I will not order them again. other than that everything else is great!!!!
