Gyu-Kaku - San Diego, CA
Traditionally called Yakiniku, this Japanese barbecue spot is known for their delicious, fresh (never frozen), high-quality meats!
Enjoy an ice cold beer as you grill your own meat. Happy Hours offer the best deals on food and drinks, so be sure to wind down and get the night started right with us.
Awesome! Loved the food and the service was great! It’s fun to cook your own meat over an open flame and eat it hot right off the grill!
We will be back for sure! The lunch menu is totally doable even on a budget!
It’s one of my new favorite places to go !! Been there twice haven’t had any problem no complaints
We celebrated my husband’s dinner and everything was wonderful. The food and service was superb. Looking forward to returning.
We had a double bday coming this week and had an early family celebration. No happy bday was said (which is kind of fine) but we also waited over 25mins to be seated (from the time or reservation (arrived prior to it)). The fire turned off constantly but we learned how to turn it back on pretty fast. So every 3-4 mins we had to make sure that the fire didn’t go off which is not fun when you cook your food over fire... we asked for assistance but were told just to turn it back on... The food was delicious as always, the server was great, so the overall 4 only bcs of the wait and the fire (empty gas balloon?).
New place had to try it out had heard good things about it
My son was home on leave from the Marines and we took him out to dinner for his last night with us. I had made reservations in advance for dinner. We were seated had a shareable table with a low partition separating us from the other table next to us. I asked for something more intimate and was told nothing was available. We were seated at a table you would give someone that had just walked in, not someone who made a reservation in advance. Upon sitting down, we had noticed our cooking tongs were dirty with dried food on them. (This actually has happened to us before). The kitchen was backed up so waited a long time to receive our food. In addition to being backed up, we asked for at several items just to be told you were completely out of! No compensation, no manager to come by, nothing. I asked for water to drink, the first one, had floating back stuff in it and the second the cup was dirty. The overall experience that night was ZERO stars. We all had the ultimate all you can eat and needless to say was not worth the money. I don’t know how you stay in business with rude greeters, dirty silverware and glassware, and run out of every item we asked for. Not to my surprise our waiter informed us that this happens all the time due to ordering issues. Completely dissatisfied with the whole situation. We will never go back!!!!
Great food. Its always amazing, never dissapoints. TINA made the night even better. Amazing service and attitude. Always great being sat in her area.
Food was excellent as always. The menus changed a little from the last time we were here. The garlic fried rice is excellent. Our waitress did an awesome job.
The food is very good! We usually get the supreme all you can eat. The variety of meats and sides is great!
We brought some friends who had never been there. We ordered the Samurai special for 4 people. Everything was delicious except for the beef sushi that was over rice. The meat was too thick and too tough. Would recommend something more thinly sliced...and a better cut of meat. Other than that, the experience was great and our server was wonderful.
we came here for a good meal and Gyu Kaku made it! though the traffic from UTC area to there would be a nightmare during dinner time. our server was excellent and she took good care of us. the meat, I mean it is Gyu Kaku! Totally worth it
The table the wait person took us to had a BBQ grill that was not functioning properly. I complained to our waitperson. She removed a part for the BBQ and said it would work fine now, but it did not. She came back after I complained again and removed another part, but it did not work. Since there were many empty tables, I told them to move us to another table, but they refused by saying that those tables were for reservations. We had a reservation too, which means to me that they were trying to force us to use a broken BBQ grill so that other customers won't have to deal with the terrible situation that they put us into. They treated us so poorly that I got really upset and started yelling at them. Then, they brought the restaurant manager. As soon as he arrived, he immediately notice the mess with the BBQ grill on our table, and offered us another table. My question is why they did not move us to another table when I requested them to do so for the first time. They forced us to use the broken BBQ table until I yelled at them. I did not enjoy the time I spent there even though the foods were ok. I don't think I will go there again, and I am going to share this poor experience of mine at Gyu-Kaku with my friends.
The soda was flat
It was a great experience! 😊
It was a fun and new experience for my partner and I! The food were delicious, and I loved the vegetables. One thing I would have hoped was that the selection of meats were less marinated. Since most of the marination were the same among most cuts, it would have been more enjoyable if there were less marinated meat, to give us more opportunity to taste it with the sauce or separate from the added flavors.
Overall a great experience. Had an amazing server; Dey was extremely attentive and kind. Thanks!
Really fun place to come with friends!! Food was good, service was excellent!! Will come again!
We got the samurai. It was the perfect amount of food. Everything was delicious and our server was outstanding.
End of week celebration
We did the all you can eat . Great meal! Gey was our waiter . He was wonderful !
Loved the service, loved the food. An outstanding experience!!!
Excellent food and service!
It was a great experience
It was amazing
Overall Great food and service.
Great food for the value but they ran out of steak and garlic.
This place has the most amazing food! I am a meat lover so being able to test the different kinds was awesome
Our server Danphy or Daphny, the receipt had it spelled Danphy, was super sweet. She knew exactly what to recommend, was extremely courteous and very friendly, always smiling. Atmosphere during lunch was nice and calm, as well as fun, not as crazy as dinner time, that's for sure. Food was amazing except for the garlic noodles, which came with a different type of noodle due to a mistake in the kitchen. Our server told us they had ordered the wrong type so that was all they had that week. We'll definitely be back again!!
Our fried rice came out way too soon before we received our meat. By the time we cooked our meat our fried rice was already cold. Our waitress was nice, she seemed to be new. The food was excellent and cooking our own meat was fun! I plan to bring my Directors here for a team lunch in November.
I've been eating here a lot, and it's usually consistent. However, this last time I went during lunch time when they just open was terrible. My soda was flat because the carbonation machine broke. The couple next to us who was seated a few minutes before us got their food right away, and we had to wait over 10 minutes before we get our food. The grill flame kept going out, so it never got hot enough. They served us day old rice. I can tell because was slight yellow and some of the rice was dry hard. I will go again. I hope that was just bad luck. Rice is cheap. Don't serve day old rice.
Always a fun place with enthusiastic servers. The options are so numerous.
The lunch menu is a fantastic value and delicious!
The food has been consistently good. We were there on Saturday afternoon at 4:45 pm. When we sat down, the server told us that the 4 of the 7 or so beef from the all you can eat was out. In the future, I would recommend that this information is shared at the front so that we didn’t have to wait 15 minutes before we were served and informed to make a decision. At the same time the grill keeps turning off.
Seating is tight, would like more room for our party of 6
Check in from Open Table does not mean much- we usually get seated after all others that have arrived are seated regardless of my reservation time. Food is always great, but then remember we cook it (he he) so it's up to you to cook it well.
It was an ok experience. The Kalbi was the best quality meat out of our entire order. The chicken and pork were ok, very basic. The fried garlic rice was really good. Not sure if it's something we'd do again soon since it's by reservations and we usually decide an hour before dinner that we're going out.
I brought my husband for his birthday dinner. He loved grilling his own Food in japan so I thought this would be the perfect spot. It really was great. The food tasted very good. We had the Samurai meal for 4 people. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Everything was fine except we have to wait 40 minutes even with the reservation...bummer
Great! Only bummer is the All you can eat rules! We had a party of 10, 5 kids and 5 adults. Adults wanted AYCE, Kidd’s would have been fine with meals( trust me the kids meal is enough for them). If they are scared of sharing with the kids.... lame. They actually lost money on us because of this stupid rule. I can see adults scamming, but stop offering a kids AYCE, they don’t eat that much.
Made reservations, wait time less then 5mins, service and food excellent.
