Gyu-Kaku - Philadelphia
Traditionally called Yakiniku, this Japanese barbecue spot is known for their delicious, fresh (never frozen), high-quality meats!
Enjoy an ice cold beer as you grill your own meat. Happy Hours offer the best deals on food and drinks, so be sure to wind down and get the night started right with us.
Love this place we live about two hours away and had travel to New Jersey for a concert and drove from Newark to Philadelphia just to come here before going home
Great experience and atmosphere. Good for a date night
I don’t like how our server James would turn the grill up to get us to cook our food fast to rush us out. That’s not cool but other then that awesome experience
My mom loved it here for Mother’s Day. She was very impressed.
Lovely Japanese BBQ restaurant. The food selection was great and the staff was super nice and accommodating. I’ve been going here for a while and will always keep going back.
We had a great experience at Gyu-Kaku and the food was amazing!! It was my daughter’s first birthday and it was our first time going to Gyu-Kaku! It was such an awesome experience and the staff and service was great! The only thing I feel needs to be improved is there needs to be better high chair options instead of just having booster seats.
We had to wait for our reservation, but once we were at the table service was great. Lots of food so go with an appetite. Great experience over all.
it was a OK. The food taste OK to me, not so impressive, and not bad. But I wished the waiter could told me I could not take the sake with me upfront. Otherwise, i will not order a big bottle . I am from MA, no restaurant have that rule. When I got home and google the law in PA. Actually, by law, I could take it as long as I purchased it with meal and the bottle is resealed. Either manager lie to me or he knew nothing about it. But i was highly doubted that they know nothing since the restaurant was there for so many years. So disappointed......
Very good although a bit pricey. The sets are a good value - ample food for 2. Unfortunately, there are no options for 3 people, so we supplemented the set with a couple of additional side order for BBQ. The duck "breast" was just 4 slices of duck - not worth the money, but the marinated steak "in the pot" was excellent. All-in-all, very enjoyable.
Excellent service, great Atmosphere and above all the food is delicious! My second time and definitely not last.
Great food! Fun to cook openly on the table. Waitstaff was great and let us really enjoy our time and meal.
Really lovely happy hour at 9PM. Drinks and Food. There is a $50 dinner for two combo and we paired this with the house sake. Super yummy and great atmosphere! Highly recommend!
3 of the 4 people in my party got sick .
I just love this place... it's great you really get a bang for your buck....
The meats got burnt while the manager was yelling. My kids lost their appetite so we paid for all the food that we couldn’t eat and left.
No grudge. People who are aggressive and lie all the times usually are unhappy themselves. I hope you know it is a crime if someone lies to a police officer though.
It is 2 am now and all my kids are still awake. They are still terrified after what happened to them to day at this place **
If only we could talk, I would not write this here. My review is honest. I don’t want people to have similar horrifying experience like us. The manager kept yelling and interrupting me when I tried to talk today. I am not able to yell/interrupt someone’s talking because I think that is rude and we don’t do that in Japan, or America. You said this is America but American people I meet day to day don’t yell and are respectful.
After the previous incident, the management in Japan contacted me and apologized and sent me a $100 gift card. They said I would be welcomed anytime to the Philadelphia restaurant, that they are really sorry about the staff’s behavior and that they have educated the staff so it can get closer to Japanese and American standard and please come again.
Believing those words from the Japanese headquarter, I decided to give this restaurant one more chance. Unfortunately this time our experience was even worst. When I was eating peacefully with my kids, the manager came and started yelling hysterically at us. I could not understand clearly what she said because she was yelling but I think she mentioned about a bad review. My kids were shocked. What did we do? We were chatting and eating like everyone else. Today was actually your day to prove that you do better so I can remove my bad review.
By the way, why you are so mad about a bad review? If you have less and less customers, don’t you think you have to fix something at your restaurant? Yelling at customers won’t fix a bad review. Common sense.
Definitely coming back here. Food was very good
Every visit is definitely worth it. Whether we want to go for date night, lunch with friends it’s always a good idea here. The food is amazing and so are the desserts.
My friends and I can all agree that there's too much salt and pepper added onto the raw meat and that ruins the taste, even if the cut of meat was of high quality.
Always delicious! Great service, though we got there a bit earlier than our reservation and had to wait until 5:30 even though there were tables open. Otherwise it was great!
amazing, love coming in for lunch
We were there assuming that they had premium (all you can eat) on Sunday but I guess we were wrong. They only had that option on weekdays. The food is outstanding otherwise. Although the price is on the high side I'd say but is worth it.
This place is amazing. The food, drinks and service were impeccable. I will be a regular here.
food was absolutely delicious. Service was great the entire staff was very courteous. Today was my three time so I highly recommend and am looking forward to go back.
Food is and always has been amazing. The skirt steak with miso sauce is outstanding and a must try. I also highly recommend the “Addicting Cucumber”, rightfully named. They’re tossed in a sweet and spicy marinade with a bit of crunch that’s to die for. They also recently added a slew of gluten free sauces that they didn’t have before, which is awesome considering MOST Chinese/Japanese sauces contain gluten.
Not my first time in Gyu-kaku but first time in phili
Was looking forward for the Korean rice which unfortunately was disappointing
Our miso soup was warm but definitely not hot
The salad was fine
The chicken was delicious
Mushroom was great
Shrimp was good
Skirt beef was so and so
Sirloin was good
The b something something was really dry and bad
Service was ok but a bit hard getting the servers attention
Food was great - loved the bbq nat gas cooker in front of you. Could eat at your leisure. We took our boys in school at Drexel there, and they loved it. Great selection of steak, pork, chicken, shrimp, and sides. Maybe up the selection of wines, but was awesome nonetheless. Our waiter was awesome handling a few tables at a time. Will definitely be back.
Excellent as always; my very favorite spot in the city.
The table was not cleaned well, the egg rolls were cold in the inside. The waitress turned the table off, not allowing the veggies to cook.
Not a pleasant experience at all
My husband and I had a great experience. It was our first time dining here and it was wonderful!
The food and experience are awesome. It’s a great spot for a date! The food came out quickly and everything was delicious. I LIVE for the spicy addicting cucumber. It’s noisy but not bothersome. The only complaint I have is that our table was next to the kitchen which took away from our experience.
Have dined at the Miami location twice & it was wonderful. The Philly location was similarity outfitted. We had a reservation and arrived one minute early. We waited 15 minutes for a table to be available, it doesn’t appear that the reservation was helpful.
The service was excellent, we ordered calamari and a shrimp boil for appetizers. The shrimp comes in a small metal bowl & you put it on the grill for 8 minutes. It took around 13 minutes, our grill wasn’t that hot. The shrimp flavor was amazing, will order that again. We never did get the calamari. We ordered a happy hour special that came with 2 salads, 2 soups, 2 rice and a host for f meats, and the soups and salad came very quickly.
Our grill was cooking slow, we weren’t in any hurry so it didn’t really matter, though the meats didn’t get a char, the pork belly didn’t crisp. Still, the flavors were great.
Overall it was fun. We’ll plan another visit
Our favorite date night spot!!! Good time every time!
It was a great experience
First time eating Japanese bbq. The price was affordable, waitress was excellent, and good separation from other customers. It was an educational and delicious experience.
Not our 1st visit but surely not our last. From our greeting @ the door, to steps aways at the bar our drinks did not disapoint. Our sever Vinny was helpful gave us suggestions and attentive. Our grill was hot and ready for table service. We will truly return
Last time I was here my server was 5 star. This time he was maybe a 2. Soft spoken and wasnt invested in my experience. Food was 5 star as always.
Excellent service, high quality food and for a low price.
The service and the food was horrible. The hostess didn’t know if she was coming or going telling people they have no tables available while there was at least 10 tables open, people were waiting for over an hour at the bar while tables were empty and open, and if you were to go to the open table app and reserve a table you had no issues getting a table. Than once sat, we eating for 20 min for a server. We got to the point where we just walked out.
Absolutely loved my dinner at Gyu-Kaku. The service was wonderful and very attentive. Everything came out in a timely manner and tasted delicious!
We had a wonderful meal considering it was very very busy because of Valentines Day dinners.
