Gyu-Kaku - Philadelphia, PA
Traditionally called Yakiniku, this Japanese barbecue spot is known for their delicious, fresh (never frozen), high-quality meats!
Enjoy an ice cold beer as you grill your own meat. Happy Hours offer the best deals on food and drinks, so be sure to wind down and get the night started right with us.
My server was excellent, explained the menu clearly. I absolutely loved the food!
Excellent food and service. Perfect place to get together with friends! It is a little pricey, but worth every penny!
Very enjoyable dinner experience, service and price and food AMAZING
Nice place to eat and good food. The service was great and everyone was very polite.
Went for lunch and they have happy hour prices on some of their top meats and appetizers. Delicious meal for a great price.
Excellent service. Disappointed some menu items were not available and no notice was given prior.
Just too hot on hot days. It was 90 degrees and no air was on. But other than that always a great time.
Everything was excellent the food was good the service was good. It was really hot in there it could be because it was hot outside but it didn't seem to have any a/c there. I would like to see other options in the first two packages for couples like chicken or seafood it was only beef lol but overall a great experience. We will be back
Great service, amazing cooking your own food
The grill doesn’t work very well.
Food are OK, service is good; we had some issues with our table that the grill doesn't heat up initially; took several tries for it to work properly.
Everything was amazing! Love this place!
Be prepared to take your time! This experience is not for those in a hurry. My first time here was a rushed experience. My fault! So I tried again and was ABSOLUTELY impressed!! I ate everything in front of me and I’m a PICKY eater. Our grill wasn’t cooperating with us but that was a minor setback. Accept your waiter’s recommendations but ask questions!! Order extra veggies (the asparagus was divine!!) as the combos are meat heavy. Ambiance is fun but not very private. We will definitely be back!
They need to refurbish their place... Their furniture was very torn on most chairs but friendly environment
The booth seat space for legs are incredibly small, I’m 5’4 and my legs are dying in there. Overall the food are good, but AC seems not very powerful, especially for a bbq house.
Absolutely the worst Gyu Kaku location I have ever been to. The food was absolutely disgusting and almost inedible. The restaurant itself smells likes a landfill upon entering. The kitchen staff was lazy and slow and I could see them using their cell phones while my poor overworked waiter kept having to remind them to fill our order. We waited over 40 minutes to receive raw meat that we are cooking ourselves. I will be filing a formal complaint with corporate as the manager here was useless. Look at the difference in the same order of meat, one being old and one looking new and fresh.
Lovedddddd this place. Our waitress LYDIA was so nice
I love this place for its all you can eat, specials, lunch menu, and everything . It’s so delicious. Fun to do and good for any type of occasion!!!
We came here for my dad’s birthday and it was pretty awful. We had an 8pm reservation which they called at 7:40 to confirm. We arrived on time and then waited 20-25 minutes to get seated for some reason. The restaurant was half empty at this time.
During this time we order a pitcher of beer from the bar and were served with HOT beer glasses. I’m glad they’re washing them, but nobody likes hot beer.
After being seated in the back room for larger parties, it took another 20-25 minutes to be greeted by our waitress, only after asking the busboy to grab someone for us did she come over. The air conditioning was not working so we sweated through our meal.
We ordered the premium for all five of us. The food was overall fine, except they ran out of shrimp and sent out frozen spring rolls. The server was nice, but painfully slow and forgetful. We had to ask three times for napkins and she never initiated having us order or clearing plates (there’s always so many plates at BBQ). We kept asking to have the air turned on as it was so uncomfortable in the back room, especially compared to the rest of the restaurant which was much cooler. We have had some prior much better experiences here, but this time was pretty bad. I had to coax my husband away from trying to speak with a manager during our meal.
Went as a group of 4 and paired the 2 two person bbq meals together. It was soooooo delicious! Highly recommend!! Sake and beer were great too and priced really well. Highly recommend this place. Will def be back.
Great place to try Yakiniku or Asian style grilled at your table meat. Staff was friendly and attentive but sometimes I had to stare some folks down to get a refill on my drink! A little bit on the pricey side but the meat was high quality and was worth it. Can’t wait to come back!
Horrible. No frosty beer mugs. Hot mugs served straight from dishwasher. Warm beer. Horrible. No pork belly ... even though advertised. Embarrassing performance from a Japanese BBQ. Will never go again
As always this place is awesome!! Great time and delicious food!
My server was James. Excellent service and friendly staff. I will definitely come back again.
Easy and enjoyable way to spend time w friends! Food was tasty and cooking isn’t that tedious as everything gets cooked quickly. Only problem is that it may feel hot as we prepare the food sometimes but they can lower the heat on the burner. It was our first time and we loved it! Also good value for the $$
4th time I've visited. 2nd bad experience. Walked in, no reservations. The 2 girls(who always seem to be standoff-ish) said they were fully booked I booked the first. I walk back in and say "Oh, my mom already booked our reservations". Their faces floored staring at eachother confused before they say "ok we will get you seated". Myself, my guy and our 1 YO girl sat down, seated our girl in a booster seat. Of course she smacks the glass plate in front of her off of the table and it breaks. The girl, same as up front, rolls her eyes as I apologize. I feel as though they did not want to seat us. Why couldn't you see the 3 open reservations/open tables? Rude. Most likely will never visit again. It's a shame because the waiters & bartenders were very nice. This restaurant needs better hosts.
I love Gyu-Kaku everywhere and Philly is no exception
Everything was pretty good, Except my table wasn't wipe down very good and when I asked to be moved they stated they didn't have an available table although there were empty tables and I reserved my table, So I asked if my table can be wiped down and I was given two wet napkins, NO ONE EVER CAME & FOLLWED UP WITH A RAG If it wasn't for my husband needing to break his fast we would have went eleswhere
It has been my experience with Gyu-Kaku that if you are attempting to dine during Happy Hour, they will do everything possible to delay seating you. I've seen everything from claiming that they can't seat people for as long as 30 minutes because of a shift change (despite a cadre of staff obviously standing around doing nothing) to questioning the validity of reservations to the hostess excusing herself for no apparent reason before seating a group and not coming back for several minutes. Overall, host staff comes across as almost resentful of any effort to be seated, even with a reservation, which makes getting to a table fairly unpleasant.
Once you are at your table, it's like you are in a completely different restaurant. The wait staff are incredibly pleasant, helpful and attentive. Food arrives quickly and is delicious. Refills on drinks are offered early and often. You get a great meal for the price. I've had no complaints at all once I've gotten into a seat.
If you are willing to run the gauntlet of the Happy Hour host staff or go later in the evening, I highly recommend this place. If surly host staff is going to ruin your appetite, stick to later hours (I assume. I’ve not actually attempted to be seated after 6 pm. It is possible that they are surly at any hour.) or eat elsewhere.
Amazing! We spent our 1 year anniversary here! We both loved it!!
Absolutely delicious! I can't wait to go back! Great specials and Happy Hour deals too!
Enjoyed the whole experience
Very disappointed with my experience at Gyu Kaku tonight. Went a few weeks ago with a large party for a friends birthday and had a great time, so decided to make a reservation and go with my partner for lunch. Specifically decided to go for the lunch specials, which cost significantly less than dinner for 2. Upon arrival, we were given dinner menus. I asked for lunch menus instead, and the host rudely said “there’s no lunch today” with a bit of a laugh in her voice. I asked why and she said “because it’s Memorial Day” as if I should’ve known they wouldn’t be operating normally. Told her we’d be leaving as we only came for the lunch specials, and she said nothing.
If you’re not serving your normal menu, there should be a notice either on the website or on the door, or even just letting me know when seating us, considering it was still lunch hours. Absolutely no reason to give such attitude when there’s no way I’d know the normal menu isn’t being served. On top of this, the hostess was sitting at the bar and had to get up and walk over to me when we arrived, and sat back down immediately after seating us, even though the restaurant was decently full. As a hostess of several years I found this super unprofessional no matter the nature of your restaurant; I didn’t even do this at the neighborhood bar I worked at - I shouldn’t have to wait for you to get up and walk over to me while I’m waiting at the host stand.
Overall super disappointed with the service I received, although not surprised now that I’m reading other reviews specially about the host team here. Unlikely that we’ll be returning, hopefully management will recognize this issue soon & work to fix it.
I went for my little sisters birthday. The food was amazing and the sauces they glazed the meat with taste great. The service was quick as well
I go to Gyu kaku every week here in New York for the amazing bimbimpap rice with spicy chilly paste and this location for some reason didnt have it or knew what I was talking about. I've been to gyu kaku in Vegas, Miami etc and they have all made the rice the same way. And also for the happy hour only food was happy hour prices and not drinks which was a first for me.
Love this place we live about two hours away and had travel to New Jersey for a concert and drove from Newark to Philadelphia just to come here before going home
Great experience and atmosphere. Good for a date night
I don’t like how our server James would turn the grill up to get us to cook our food fast to rush us out. That’s not cool but other then that awesome experience
My mom loved it here for Mother’s Day. She was very impressed.
