Gyu-Kaku - Pasadena Ratings and Reviews
The music was way too loud. We had to ask the waiter to turn it down a bit as the speaker was right overhead our table. It gave me a headache half way through our dinner. If not for the music, we had a wonderful meal..... quality, awesome food and great service!!
We Took our daughter out to her requested restaurant for her birthday dinner. She asked our servers ( who were very attentive) if they had tables with more grills for a group this size as that was what she experienced at other Gyu Kaku restaurants, and they said they did not. It made it hard for us to Grill more than 1 thing at a time. That meant I ate my mushrooms and then had my rib eye. I thought the garlic dishes I tried we’re very flavorful ( garlic mushrooms, rib eye, mahi mahi) as was the spring roll appetizer. We all enjoyed the s’mores for dessert.
It was a regular visit to the Pasadena location of the chain. Overall a great experience but felt a little neglected by the staff this time around. Our grill seemed to be lower in temperature than usual and wasn’t cooking the food right but couldn’t get anyone to fix it properly. Still, wasn’t a bad meal.
We made reservations for 9:15, we checked in at 9 and we were not seated until 930. We were unable to enjoy our stay due to the party that we were seated across from us. We didn't receive the same service as previous visits and I believe it was due to the party they were attending.
Albert, Frantz, and Be Be provided us with top-notch service! Thank you so much! The food was amazing. We got the meat lovers for two for $60 bucks. Way more food than two adults can consume at one sitting. Was a lot of food. The meats were seasoned so well and and the Japanese fried chicken tasted fantastic. The beef rice with onions is to die for! Can't wait to return.
The only complaint I have is; the wait staff messed up on our bill and caught us outside to come back in to correct it, we were told that the transaction was not void so it wouldn't affect our accounts. That was a lie. We had double the charge taken out of all three of our accounts, and now we have to wait 7-10 days for our account corrections. Not a good look for the establishment.
Adam our server was friendly, attentive and efficient. He did not fail to come back often enough to check how we were doing but not so often that it became annoying. Food quality was good, wished they put less cheese on my corn since it got too salty, otherwise everything was excellent.
We've been to Gyu-Kaku a few times for lunch and had good experiences for the most part. Our son came to visit and we wanted to take him for dinner, he'd never been before. First of all, I made a reservation via OpenTable and I mentioned it was a special occasion. We were sat in the back literally right next to a waiter's station—not conformable at all due to the constant foot traffic of waiters using the computer. Because it was a special occasion I went back to the front to ask for a different table, and the hostess just gave me a look like, "too bad, nothing I can do". If it was busy I'd understand, but I made a reservation and there were many tables still open. She finally, moved us reluctantly to another table in the back of the house. Unfortunately, the table we were moved to had a burner that never really got hot enough to cook our food well—in fact, it kept turning off until our waitress removed the outside "ring". Fortunately, the service ended up being ok; and the food, when it finally did cook, was ok too. All in all though, not the experience we were hoping to have as a family, especially when we spent as much as we did.
My friend & I love this place. This was probably around our 3rd or 4th time back & this time, we decided to give the 3 piece special for $14 a go with an order of the crunchy noodle bowl. We came in super hungry & left feeling very full. Our bill was only $30, which was a really good price for 2 hungry people. I always happily recommend this place to my friends :)
Dine Lunch was delicious and filling! Surprisingly, it was a lot of food! Includes miso soup, salad and rice. You also get to pick three meats, and 2 pcs of s'mores dessert is included! Everything was delicious - just watch out for the final bill. Make sure they charge you just for DineLA price, and not additional charges for items that are inclusive (salad, soup, rice and dessert), not cool!
The restaurant opens at 11:30am. We came in 10 minutes early to see if we can sit inside the waiting area, but we were told it wasn't open and to wait outside the restaurant. Mind you there's waiting seats/table and pretty warm outside.
The place is now a little run down from what I remember. The quality of the meat isn't that great either. My short ribs came out frozen. None of the dishes was memorable. I used to enjoy this place, but as the years go by there's other places way better and better services.
Food is always good but this place always looks dirty. Bathrooms are dirty, where they sat us there were huge pieces of wallpaper ripped off the wall. I was kinda of embarrassed that I brought out of towners here for Dinner. We sat for about 15 min before getting up to ask for a waiter, once he came he apologized for not being told he was serving us. Our waiter was Great but other staff kept coming to our table to deliver the wrong food. We waited Forever to get our food. They need to tighten everything back up here and maybe hire a new Manager that knows how to run the place.
My husband and I came to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. The service was very slow, didn't get refills on our drinks and then to top it off, we were given an old menu with old happy hour prices, so we spent more money than we planned. No one even apologized. They acted as if we had chosen our own menus from some random rack at the front & purposefully tried to trick the establishment! Very shady business.
