Celebrated my brothers elopement with his new wife. Had a great meal and excellent service. Unfortunately it was my server Jas last shift. We will be back though!!!
Unfortunately our server Jaz was less than interested in providing us good service. The location had 70% empty tables with plenty of staff to service us. We waited 25 min and sent two requests just to get our server to take our drink order. When our food arrived and the grill wouldn’t start we asked for another table which request was ignored and met with attitude and waited another 20 minutes to get the grill started. I’ve been to this location almost 10 times over the course of a year and never experienced service like this at any Gyukaku. Other staff members repeatedly asked our server to come see about us but her lack of interest in providing basic customer service was noticed by everyone.
It was a great first time experience!
Waited 20 minutes for a table although we had a reservation. Food was good, but they were out of a lot of items during prime dinner service. Service was very slow, and it was apparent they are short staffed. We ended up being there for over 2 hours (!!) because half the time we were waiting for food. Not sure what is up with this location but unfortunately, we won’t be coming back
The waitstaff was friendly and trying their best. They were doing their best but placed in a difficult situation. We were notified when we arrived for our reservation that there will be a set all you can eat menu/price due to it being the holidays. This was not communicated to us, although the reservation was made well in advance. The set menu/and pricing is understandable due to it being Christmas. However, half the meats on the menu were sold out, our reservation was for 5:30 in the evening, with customers just beginning to arrive for the evening. We were seated fairly promptly but had to wait an hour before any food arrived. Multiple items we ordered ended up being not available. Again the waitstaff was doing what they can but the restaurant was clearly understaffed and mismanaged.
Service was virtually nonexistent. Took nearly two hours for a thirty minute meal. Most item we wanted were not available. The beef in the ramen I ate was all fat and grissle, impossible to chew or swallow. The filet mignon steak we ate raw uneven, chewy, but edible. Can’t believe it was filet mignon. Sake I ordered never came, neither the Gouza. Ended up eating some salad, two bites of steak, and the broth from the ramen. Left starved and frustrated, and thus was on Christmas Day! We rushed to the movie theater and ate one of their hot dogs for lunch!
The beef looks like it's been kept for a long time, and it's not too fresh. I have eaten at Cupertino restaurant, the foods which is much better than this one(Oakland).but the service is very nice
Bad all around.
Good is so delicious and service was excellent. Will come back again!
Would not recommend. Bad service & food.
A bit hit and miss this time. They could not get my grill to heat, had to move in the middle of my meal. Lychee Saketini was good, Hanger Steak was NOT tender, Garlic Fried Noodles were good but they had NO Shrimp. Another diner bought me an order of Salt and Pepper wings, were too sweet for me.
Good place for family outing with kids
What a fun experience!! The service here was absolutely amazing! From the warm and accommodating host at the front door to our patient and friendly waitress! The food was also absolutely delicious.
Delicious food. Was a little frenetic (staff seemed stressed), but great overall.
Wasn’t informed when a dish was sold out and instead they decided to give us something else wo asking us first. Music is way too loud inside the restaurant .
My husband and I love Gyu-Kaku and it’s the first time we went to the Oakland restaurant. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The portions are a little smaller than the other branches we have been to. Taste is still good. The toro beef doesn’t look as fresh as the one we usually get. The waiter said the brown color was because the meat had been oxidized - still it didn’t look appealing. The grill was not replaced once during the meal even though it was burnt - they probably would have if we asked but in the other Guy-Kaku restaurants we went to, the waiters always replaced them without us asking. We were not blown away by the customer experience but will probably be back because we like the food.
Good service , great food, but the music is way too loud.
It was a great experience at Gyu Kaku!
Our server was quick and attentive. There’s a lot of options for meat AND small plates, which is something you can’t find much at a lot of Korean BBQ restaurants. Would recommend for date night (as long as you come STARVING) and catching up with a small group of friends :)
They even have set menus for those that are overwhelmed. Flavors are on point here. Compared to the San Mateo location, there isn’t much space and the street parking situation can be sketchy… you’ll have a better chance at finding closer parking on a weekday evening.
The food was amazing, the server was attentive and the restaurant is super clean.
The food is amazing and the server Michelle is very nice.
Our experience was so great! The service was so quick and food was amazing! I would definitely recommend Gyu-Kaku and this location!
Our waitress Micaela was absolutely wonderful! I have a ton of dietary/food allergies and she was non judge mental and so accommodating. She made recommendations and let us swap in some other dishes I could eat. She made sure to let the chef know of my allergies and was overall just wonderful and pleasant. She checked in regularly and was so nice to both me and my mom. Amazing service and we will be back for sure!
kind of expensive for what it is but the server was amazing!
Worst experience ever!
- there was only one server, so food took forever to be served
- small servings
- server forgot to bring rice out, my family was done eating already and still no rice
-ramens were extremely salty
- ordered more food since we didnt know portions were gonna be that small
- chicken katsu came which was supposed to be for my daughter but when my husband tried it, chicken was still raw
And that was it, cancelled the rest of my other orders that was taking forever anyways and left the place. Never ever coming back. We ended up hitting a fast food chain. What a waste of time and money.
This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. We knew from reading the reviews not to expect much in terms of service but wow we were totally unprepared. We were promptly seated and that was about it. No greeting by a waiter, no water, 3 mens that felt gross to the touch. 15 min later manager walks by asks if we need anything we tell him we are ready to order and instead of taking the order he says he will let the waiter know. 15min later still no waiter, no water no service. We can hear complaints from surrounding tables we decide to cut or loses and leave. They need new management, new training, and a complete overhaul. Try QR codes for ordering as your stuff is clearly not up to the task. We will not be back.
First timers and we loved it! S’mores at the end was the best ❤️🔥
Not sure if they were low staffed but we did not get served or even asked for what we wanted till almost 15 minutes. Ordered three meats, they were pretty good. Quantity could be a little more. I ordered assorted veggies and the server heard me but it never came and also noticed it wasn’t on the check. Didn’t wanna order any more food at this point because of the lack of service. The place was nice and clean otherwise. Could be a cute fancy date night
Fresh ingredients cooked to order by your own selves! Waitstaff was very attentive to our gluten-free needs. If ordering one of their sets, I suggest you cook & eat each type of meat one at a time to truly appreciate the subtle differences. Good for groups or dates alike.
Kind of disappointed to be seated in the very back next to the restroom. Never was greeted by the waiter, had to call them over to take our order and bring water. Food was good although it did take 20-30 minutes for them to bring out our raw meats…. It was an “OK” experience
Service was a little disorganized and the flame wasn't hot enough, probably due to the inexperienced server. Prices were up a little bit since we were last here three+ months ago, but still a good value for your dollar and lots of meat.
An OK meal, nothing special. Meats came out before we were done with the appetizers; an avalanche of plates. Service was perfunctory.
Server was nice but he was like gone all the time lol could not find someone to replace grill, or get the check….but overall pretty good
I'm really excited about this restaurant being in my neighborhood. The food is creative, delicious, and a fun cost. The menu is very affordable in my opinion and good for groups. We had some service trouble - delays, a wrong order, and confusion about cost - but they were very attentive and comped us on our check. I will definitely come back soon.
Portions were smaller than normal, Danae (our server) ignored us, messed up our order, kitchen staff were slow to send food out. Temperatures were NOT taken, even though there was a sign that said that they would take temperatures, I saw staff without their masks on. The food tasted good, but everything else made the experience not worth repeating.
So sad. Seems Covid has really done a number on this location. In the past, I would have given them 5 stars all around. But this past visit was beyond lacking. Walking in, you could feel the sticky floors on your shoes. The service was super slow. Ordered a hot tea for grandma and her tea did not come til after all our drinks arrived. Reason was they tea machine was still making tea. Then as we waited for our food. They forgot to give us our miso soup. As the meal progressed and they had to change our grill, they took the dirty grill away. But then we had to wait for a new one, since there weren't any clean grills to replace the dirty one. Meaning we had raw meat sitting at our table while we waited for a new grill to be cleaned. Then as the meal ended, we realized we were missing an item. Along with the fact, it took forever to get our smores dessert. I do have to say, the manager did try to rectify by giving us a discount for the problems that occurred. I do feel for them, since he said all his workers were new and still learning the ropes. Sad to say that it's not like it should be. Yes, workers may be new, but it's up to the management to keep on top of things. Making sure new workers don't linger around doing nothing and making sure the establishment is covid super clean. There is no reason for sticky floors.
It was just horror and disappointment. I’ve been in different locations in LA area and northern California, even worked at Gyu-kaku Sherman Oaks for a short time and I was so surprised the quality of service here was so poor. May be poor training programs? I can go on to the details but not sure worth my time. Anyhow, it just shows the management here is very, very weak... To bad.
Celebrating home ownership
This was my 2nd visit and I learned to sit sideways, made everything better with my legs, but a bit awkward. Host person told me ALL the tables were the same, NOT made for tall people. Had the Prime Kalbi and Shrimp Garlic Noodles with extra Shrimp, and the Nigori Sake for desert. Ivy was very knowledgeable about the menu, explained a lot of stuff for my next visit.
Best place to eat in Oakland. Second time in a week my mother and I dined here. Server dude Kai took care of us every well. Happy Hour prices are deals. Sadly a large visiting family from out of state was dining across the aisle and both of their rental SUVs parked directly across from Gyu-Kaku on 8th Street were smashed/grabbed all their possessions/cash while they were eating. So please secure all your belongings if you do drive to Gyu-Kaku because unfortunately it is still OAKLAND……
Four of us thoroughly enjoyed a happy hour feast and beef loving party. Very reasonable and great service by Micheala. Guy-Kaku in Oakland Is the place to hangout with friends and family for this Alamedan!!
