Gyu-Kaku - Midtown Ratings and Reviews
This was an ok experience. Service could have been better, but it was fun making our own food. Also, the drinks were not made well. The frozen lemonade was melted and Very bland. I ended up just getting a soda. This was my 1st time here. I may give it another chance, but I would not order a drink from the bar.
Been here several times and enjoyed it. This time a family with about five kids (who were eating dessert when we arrived, but left only minutes before we did) kind of ruined the experience. These children (who were old enough to know better) screamed at full volume and ran around the restaurant the whole time. We mentioned it to our server who said they were bothering her too. I understand that management doesn't want to offend guests by asking them to keep kids under control, but a lot more were offended when they were allowed to continue.
The food was all very tasty. There were 5 of us, and we ordered one of the deals for 4 so we could try a bunch of stuff, and had leftovers. The different types of beef and shrimp were the highlights for me. Beer and sake are really reasonably-priced, making it a very solid value in addition to being tasty.
I wasn't sure what to expect with Japanese BBQ but was very pleasantly surprised. The service was great and food was excellent. We tried the feast for 4 and it worked well for us. My kids enjoyed the experience and trying new things. Would definitely go again.
When I informed the manager about their staff being understrained to advise how long we should cook the shiitake mushrooms, she thanked me, but did not offer any compensation for me having had a toxic reaction (Shiitake dermatitis) twice. Indeed, twice I was recommended to cook raw shiitake mushrooms only 1 minute. And of course, twice, I got a very toxic skin rash reaction that cost me several hundred dollars in doctor, drugs and creams.
This happens only if the shiitake is undercooked.
I came here for my husband's birthday, he enjoyed the experience. I went to a different location, I loved the space. I felt a little rushed and another party was serviced even though we sat down before them. They switched our waiter midway through the service, those things were a little off putting. Overall good food and experience would visit again.
Experience is always nice but I had had a shiitake dermatitis because the shiitake mushroom I had was not enough cooked. The server told me 1 minute but it was not enough and now I've got red spots all over me. Staff should be trained to advise correctly customers, especially when you are cooking your raw food.
This was my second time visiting. The first time , I came for a get-together among friends (8) and this time was a double date. We were seated early, and had a spot by the window. The food was great and well seasoned. It's always fun cooking on that open fire tabletop grill. Garlic Noodles always taste great. I was glad to see the menu options changed to include a party of 4 and more. There was so much food! The S'mores were my fav :)
