Gyu-Kaku - New York, NY | Midtown
Traditionally called Yakiniku, this Japanese barbecue spot is known for their delicious, fresh (never frozen), high-quality meats!
Enjoy an ice cold beer as you grill your own meat. Happy Hours offer the best deals on food and drinks, so be sure to wind down and get the night started right with us.
We had a wonderful time eating at Gyu Kaku. We were hoping that this location had some of the special menu items we recently had in Beverly Hills and Orlando.
Toro Beef and the prime rib are the best
Service was not the best and servers had some attitude. Food was only okay for the price.
It’s alway a fun time with good friends and food. Can’t wait for my next treat.
Wonderful food from a Japanese chain. It was like being back in Tokyo. Get the Kalbi beef and bibimbop!
A bit too loud but great food
Delicious and fun! Great way to celebrate a birthday - and even had a cute candle on ice cream for dessert!
Our server was Sylvester who made sure that everything was great. When the kitchen was slow, he offered us extra treats to compensate for our wait. It was a pleasure to be served by him. We hope to see him again the next time we go there.
The staff are overwhelmed. Maître D rude and customers made to feel like a number. He feigns kindness and acts very fake. No concern for seating requests and directs customer to website while in restaurant. Multiple orders forgotten, other people’s order received, a huge mess. Ownership must have changed and headingbdown hill.
This was not my first time to have Japanese BBQ, but my first time at Gyu-Kaku. First of all, I should say that our server, Boat, was absolutely perfect. He was attentive, polite, and knowledgeable about the menu. That's the all the positive things I can offer. We ordered the $65 set menu. It came with fried chicken, which tasted obviously frozen and dunked in the frier. The 6 plates of meat were of the lowest quality. One selection was sliced so thin that it fell apart in the grill and dropped in. The bone-in-kalbi had 4 pieces that shriveled down to 1/8 inch thick after grilling. Sliced pork (belly?) was dry as a bone. The other cuts of meat were very tough and low quality and I tend to grill everything rare to medium, so the point was not the cooking. Should have known...such a large chain...don't expect great food.
Very fun for kids. Had good time. Glad we picked this place.
There was some confusion regarding happy hour. The waitress said it was happy hour so she would bring us the happy hour menu. Then the manager came and politely said it wasn’t happy hour for another 10mns, but we were free to wait until then to order. No issue so far. We ended up ordering 2 smoothies and the calamari appetizers in the meantime. Our waitress indicated that she was “training and owned up to making a mistake regarding the time” so I’m not sure what she said to the hostess behind our backs but this is where things took a left turn.
The hostess rudely comes to our table with a happy hour menu, and rudely tells us “next time you’re seated you gotta order from the menu you’re given!” Meanwhile we have 2 smoothies on the table and we’re waiting for our calamari appetizer while she’s saying this. Then she rudely snatches the old menus. I will never go back and forth with a stranger, there are way too many eateries in NY, so I didn’t bother ordering anything else. I simply asked for my check and a to-go box for the appetizers. Oh it gets worse, our waitress hands me a $7 check. She forgot to charge us for the drinks, so I flag her down and let her know to add our drinks. That girl couldn’t even bother mustering up a “thank you” for bringing it to her attention. She acted like I’m giving her extra work.
So no thanks, will never go back to this place. Go to their Flushing location, all the employees are so attentive and much nicer.
Didn't feel comfortable. Don't wanna talk about it.
Service was slow and they forgot one item we ordered. Fun restaurant and food quality was good.
I love everything about this place. Their cuts of meat is delicious and makes for a great quick BBQ meal. It is really great when you can have a sit-down BBQ with happy hour that starts at 11:30AM!!!
Their cocktails are good as well!
Great experience and although it might seem expensive, by NYC standards it is not. The difference is your getting your monies worth. So much good food and great half price drinks at the bar.
Food is great and service is excellent!
Went on a date night with my girlfriend and had a great time.
Our waiter was always checking up to make sure everything is ok and was constantly changing out the grill plate. The price was great too with happy hour drinks being half price. The quality of meat was amazing and we will definitely go back.
Sempre buonsissimo! Torneremo ancora!
Impressed by both choice and quality of meats. The staff was excellent - very helpful in explaining how things work to first timers like us. Will definitely go back - in NYC, or any other location.
This is one of those places where I want all my friends to try ! Because it’s so good! Been to 3 of the locations in NY alllll sooo Good!
Unfortunately was crowded so the service was very deficient
I’m a frequent visitor and it’s one of my favorite
First time at the Midtown location... Loved It!
There was no green tea cake so I didn’t get eat that after meal.
This place is super fun every time we highly recommend it
Loved the beef, tasty and tender. Great place to bring friends that want great food and drinks.
it's always great. i've been going for years. the food is tasty and different. the service is great and the atmosphere is different.
Excellent food and service, at an exceptional price!
Always love this place. That said, they need to rework their AC situation. Just too hot in the summer
Great time, servers we’re very courteous.
Excellent, superb definetly worth the money and visit.
Thank you it was very nice evening. Food was excellent, service efficient. A bit noisy but ok! Tx again!
The quality of the meat was good. I wish they had more side dishes or options for lettuce wraps. You cook the food yourself.
The food is amazing and I guess it could easily be one of the best Tempura restaurants outside of Japan. It is totally worth the price. If you are looking for cheap tempura, this is probably not the place to go. But if you are looking for quality Japanese food, this is definitely the right place. We celebrate my wife's birthday, and we ordered the set menu (kaiseki menu). We also ordered the whole lobster (highly recommended). It started with some Japanese small dishes which were already amazing! They serve the tempura one by one and they are all freshly fried. After all the tempura (which is a lot of tempura), we have the option to choose from the Tendon, Tencha and Udon. We ordered all three, and all of them are nice!
Service is excellent. My family had a very good time in the restaurant!
The overall experience was great. Very tasty food. The service was quick too. The drink variety was good. The weighter was very professional and changed the grill three times and brought drinks on time. We were late 10 minutes so our table was given away but we were given one withing 5 minutes. So it was great. We would have appreciated a birthday touch by the restaurant since we were celebrating a birthday. The sake and meats were five stars
The food was so good. Loved the experience of cooking my own meal. My boyfriend loved it.
I have been to a different locations and this location is the best far...
