Gyu-Kaku - Huntington Beach Ratings and Reviews
After 10+ visits to one of my favorite restaurants I was severely disappointed with the lack of service. Usually in a place where they excel on customer service we couldn't get a fork, a beer, the dishes cleaned up, even the check. Watched the Manager Christian more concerned on hitting on the female staff then doing any aspect of his job as a manager. Our waiter Chad (Manager trainee) could not be found most of the night. While the food was still supreme I will not be returning for awhile.
It’s a fun experience where you can eat and drink as you go. We ordered small portions and kept them coming between talking and drinking. It was a fun date night.
On a side note we were celebrating our anniversary I noted that when I booked the table. They made no effort to seat us in a nice area nor did they do anything special. Every birthday gust got a song and desert but nothing for the couple that met here on a blind date 5 years ago.
Always a pleasure dining at Gyu Kaku. My girlfriend and I love coming in for their All Day Happy hours on Monday. It's such a great deal. I believe Henry was our server. He did a wonderful job taking care of us on refills and knowledgeable about the menu. I believe Jordan was our busser and he was on it as well. Great support staff. Thank you again!
The ambiance was cramped and the food didn’t smell good. They had sweet Potato Shochu which was exciting so I ordered it served exactly like in Japan; with hot water. The waiter brought me what looked like a tiny ice water. I said, sorry, no, I ordered it with hot water. He took it back and brought the same thing back a second time. It was bizarre. My 4 year old knows the difference between hot water and ice water. Then he said, that’s just how we serve it. Well, that’s NOT how I ordered it and it’d be simple to fix it. I’m sure the place didn’t run out of hot water. The food didn’t smell good. Between the incompetent service, the cramped ambiance and the bad smells, we told them we’re not interested and we left. Disappointing. I was looking forward to date night with the hubby all week. This place was a let down. Don’t bother.
All their meats are marinated so it is somewhat better than most Korean BBQ where they don’t marinate their meat except for a few dishes . But I m still not impressed with the quality and cut of meats.
Price is slightly higher than most all you can eat Korean BBQ but I like this place because I don’t have to stuff myself with all you can eat menu and rather only order what I want to eat
I called 3-4 times on different date to make my reservations, but this location (Huntington Beach) NEVER answer the phone.
So one time I ended up reserving Cerritos location instead, and this time used OpenTable.
The management should acknowledge and improve the customer service that the no one never answer the phone especially during night operations. This is not good!
I thoroughly enjoyed spending an afternoon here for a unique dining experience. The meats were seasoned and/or spiced just perfect. Three sauces available but I truly didn’t need them. It was fun to cook each type and then savor the deliciousness. Wish I had known could pull ring off sooner for hotter grill. Also wish the server left key of the meat types. Saying them seven in a row as they were set down went right out of my memory. Great place.
We had a reservation for 7:15 and were then told to that there was a wait. We did not get seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. The hostess also informed us that the two parties that had reservations before us were also waiting. I don't understand what's the point of making a reservation if when you show up the hostess tells you that you still have to wait for a table.
I've been to Gyu-Kaku at Huntington Beach about 4 times within this year. I keep coming back because of their wonderful lunch specials! For about $10, you get an adequate amount of meats, miso soup, delicious house salad, and gyoza. I always leave feeling satisfied. The servers are very kind and always check on meal, refill our water, clean up, etc., even when the restaurant is busy. Stellar service and great food!
