I loved the food will be back
I made reservations for my birthday. Upon arrival, we were told we needed to have the entire party here before being seated- understood. We were then told it would be a delay as they had to wait for another table but John (I believe that’s his name, manager) offered to get us 3 free appetizers while we waited. We finally got seated maybe 20-25 minutes later. Our waitress came around after about 10 minutes. Everything took forever. I know we’re a large party (8), I’ve frequented this location multiple times and it was never this slow. They were down bartenders/host and it seemed servers as well. We got rice brought out way before any meat started showing, we ordered spicy cucumbers and 30 minutes later we had to ask where they were & she replies “oh, we’re out.” Shouldn’t she have told us that forever ago? Our miso soups never came until after we already finished our meal and at that time we were full. Had to ask for them several times. I ordered corn which they don’t sell anymore but wasn’t told that until an hour in. Ordered drinks and waited 30 minutes to which another manager (an Asian man, didn’t catch his name) rudely told us “yea there’s no bartender, I can get it made for you though” and his overall energy wasn’t good. Didn’t seem like he wanted to be there or be bothered helping. Overall the experience was awful and this was my first time taking my family there. John deserves a raise as he was SO kind, funny & helpful throughout.
The food was amazing and it was a unique experience with the self-cooking. But, I was highly disappointed in the service. My reservation was made in advance for 15 people at 9:30 and it seemed as if because it was close to closing time we were being rushed and poorly tend to. Waitress “Kia” or whatever her name is was not inviting or welcoming, she also had a bad nonchalant attitude. I was very disappointed because this is where I chose to spend my special day, my birthday.
One of my go to restaurants when I'm craving Japanese BBQ.
Food was good, but Took too long for somebody to come over and take our order and refills. When we first got there it took a while for us to get our menus. My mom has problems with her legs and she was very uncomfortable and in pain because we had to sit for too long since service was not so great. We also went because we had a favorite dish that we were looking forward to, but found out that it was no longer on the menu.
So delicious and such a fun dining experience! Great for a date or a group of friends.
Always a wonderful experience with outstanding customer service and food!
The food was excellent as well as the whole experience. It was my first time trying it and I’m not a big meat eater and I thought it was delicious. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
who cut the meat today. TOO THICK. not like usual. I noticed a lot of new face today. Service was much better than usual.
Very Americanized from the Japanese Gyukaku chains. I get it since they are in Houston but not anywhere near the same as in Japan. Also, sake selection was basically next to nothing.
You must fix that front door. It was so loud and uncomfortable, every time it opened and closed. Please fix it.
Other than that, food is excellent and service is great. Oh please bring back kalbi soup
The noise level could not be helped because there were three parties with birthdays. However, I received my appetizers after I have finished my main course. My guest also notified the waitress we were waiting awhilefor the bill.
A very loud table was sat next to ours. It was awful extremely loud and rude people it completely spoiled my date and evening. They kept playing extremely loud music next to us and it was the same song over and over. I don't think i'll be coming back to this specific location at all. Just absurd and to make it worse i did not receive good service. Our waitress did not explained anything to my guest it was his first time there. Now he probably will never go back. Just the worst experience yet. Maybe management and the waiters need to pick up their game seriously!
Too difficult to find parking lot and if we show up early and have a table available they can take we sit as soon as they can, So ?
Good quick dinner. My favorite is the toro beef but it is on the fatty side. The premium sirloin was another fave but save room for the best dessert ever. Green Tea Crepe cake is to die for 🤤
This is one of our favorite restaurants, hands down! Kevin was amazing! We are from Oklahoma and always make Gyu Kaku a stop on our trips to Texas.
One of my favorite places to eat! Great ambiance, friendly staff, also great for date night.
Usually, I enjoy this Gyu-Kaku location. However, the most recent time I went, it took 20 minutes to get our reserved table while other customers who did not have a reservation and had a bigger group obtained a table before us. Moreover, our food took way too long to come. We were seated at 5:20 and left around 7:00 because of how staggered our food kept coming in. I do not blame our waitress at all, who was great and gave us free s’mores as a compensation. She had told us the problem was that the meat we ordered had not thawed out enough, and when we served this meat (Bistro Hanger Steak), it barely cooked because of how frozen it still was.
Took my mom here for her 59th birthday and it was great. Our reservation was honored on time and our wait service was fantastic (thanks Harry!)
My only issue was that there never seemed to be anyone at the bar full time.
Other than that, great experience and they have something for everyone.
We took our granddaughter out for a twist on Asian grills and to meet the new beau. As usual the quality of the meats and ingredients was top notch. We chose from the lunch menu and the choose 2-3 proteins. The value was exceptional for the quantity of food provided. We had plenty to eat.
We ate at the West Gray Houston location. I rate it highly. The only negative comment was the choice and volume of the music which was quite irritating.
It was great! Waiting for the food wasn’t long and everyone was very nice and attentive
We will be coming back definitely and I will be recommending more people to go!!
The last few times I've been to this location, the quality of service has really gone down. At first I thought maybe I was just going on a super busy day, but now I think this is just the norm there. It took a while for the wait staff to come by and introduce themselves, and our food came out faster than our alcoholic drinks. May just start going to the Memorial location instead.
We had a great time celebrating our friends birthday. The food was excellent, service was great. The manager, John, was a lot of fun. Looking forward to future visits. My only complaint is they claimed to not be able to change the channel on the TV in the bar so we could keep up with the Astros playoff game.
Great evening with a big group. Unfortunate that the manager was inflexible about seating a big group ( with a reservation) until all of us arrived and was rude about seating us. It took about 20 minutes before someone took our drinks order.
Great service, atmosphere and food!
Excelente service and food prepared, nice retiraba with clean restrooms and good environment
Great food and service! A fun dinner with friends!
Gyu-Kaku has us coming back everytime, and we love it so much we seldom try any place else. You get to cook your own meat to tasty perfection. The staff are energetic, and helpful. Be warned, this place is popular and busy, so a reservation is recommended.
Great as usual!
It was busy but the service was still pretty fast . Parking is limited to I would suggest lyft or park on the street .
I like taking friends who have never been there before. I tell them I am 'giving them the experience'. They all love it! Buying a package meal is a good deal.
Our waitress, Marisol was very friendly and the food were delicious. We had the spicy addicting cucumber and fried tuna volcano as our appetizers, which is made of fried rice with tuna on top and sweet soy sauce as the base. As for meats, we had the Bistro Hangers, Kobe short ribs, and Harami in Secret Pot (skirt steak). We also has the shrimps and mushrooms marinated in pesto sauce.
The concept is good but the execution leaves to be desired; having a small grill to share among friends in the middle of the table makes me think of a slow conversation friendly meal that one can have at an easy pace. However the raw food is brought on to the table all at once making the table crammed and giving the feel of being rushed (also presenting the check without asking if we wanted anything else TWICE).
The restaurant is also very loud, so much in fact that i hard to sustain a normal voiced conversation. The food is ok but their are pricing it a bit too much for the quality or experience you are getting. More than likely will not be returning to this establishment.
The food was delicious but it is too loud makes it a little hard to enjoy the moment with the guests
Great food ,great concept well organized would definitely come back
Great staff. Good food.
