I love Gyu kaku, it’s my favorite restaurant. I come frequently to their west village location and Times Square location. This time my service was very poor. Our server was kind of rude and standoffish and took very long when asking for things. As someone that works in hospitality, I know hoe it is, I’m very polite and respectful to service workers. I was continuously saying, thank you or please, and the server didn’t respond he would just walk away. Which I thought was rude. I ordered spicy beef Ramen and never received it. I ordered corn to grill, but got creamy corn instead, which wasn’t bad because it still was tasty. My server did not even acknowledge the mistakes from our order. At the end of the meal we asked for the bill it took 30 minutes just to get the bill . It was getting late and I was just trying to get out of there because I didn’t want the service to taint how well the actual food was . It was only when I got up that the server came over to give us the bill and then that’s when he wanted to start being hospitable asking us that we have the app and how we could get discounts. Funny. Earlier in the service, my boyfriend asked how to use the chopsticks as it was his second time there and he’s not familiar and our server said he didn’t know how to use chopsticks. I find that very funny as someone who works at a Japanese barbecue and Grill. At the end, the server basically demanded a tip. He said he work very hard for cash tips insinuating that we needed to give him a tip and that was very offputting. I kept telling my boyfriend that I felt something was wrong with this server, but I didn’t know what it was because we just came there to eat. Even a random employee told us good night as we were walking out in our server did not . This won’t stop me from going to Gyu kaku, but I do remember their face and I think I’ll just visit the time square location next time .

Fun atmosphere, great food, and big tables perfect for groups of all sizes. There were 3 of us so got the 3-person course and it was more than enough food. Our server was very friendly and helpful with a good sense of humor. Must recommend the beer tower, it really made the night.

I really enjoyed the food and the service but I couldn’t get over a baby cockrock walking on our table as we were cooking smores. When it was brought up to the staff, they didn’t really care

The Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ restaurant is an amazing Japanese restaurant that offers guests incredibly delicious Japanese cuisine, and a delightful dining experience where the guests themselves partake in cooking and preparing premium cooked meats over a smoking grill located at their table. In May of 2025, I brought and treated myself and my wife for dinner at the Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ, specifically the branch based in the East Village Manhattan, to celebrate our Happy Eleven Year Relationship Anniversary!!! Both my wife and I were graciously welcomed by the restaurant’s staff and were quickly provided with a very comfortable dining table. Our server, Tan was incredible. She was very kind, welcoming and very attentive. She did a great job on explaining the menu options, addressing our inquiries and perfectly documented our meal orders. Tan also made sure to routinely check on us to see if we were enjoying our meals, and making sure our needs were met. We thank Tan for her superb hospitality and would love for Gyu-Kaku to recognize her outstanding professionalism!!! In addition to the great service, both Kat & I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I ordered the “Meat Lover’s” package for the both of us when dining at Gyu-Kaku. The “Meat Lover’s package is meant for 2 guests and comes with a considerable number of dishes, ranging from starters; salad, miso soup, sushi, chicken karate, and BBQ items; New York steak; Umakara ribeye, toro beef, sirloin steak and an a array of other dishes. In addition you get 2 s’mores for dessert. Both my wife enjoyed steaming our seasoned BBQ items over the grill and found our meal to be very delicious from beginning to end. We found our meat dishes to be perfectly seasoned, very tasty and satisfying, and our grill cooked it perfectly!!! My wife and I thank Gyu-Kaku for helping to celebrate our Happy Relationship Anniversary and recommend for everyone to visit and dine at this wonderful Japanese restaurant!!!
