Overall quality of the Japanese bbq is excellent. But Japanese ramen is not as good as rest of the food.

Always great, one of my favorite restaurants. Always make a reservation for dinner though to avoid the wait, which is why opentable comes in handy!

Great place to come too ( if you’re feeling extra hungry). Went with my girlfriend and enjoyed our stay. Server checked on us consistently to see if everything was good, place does gets busy so keep that in mind. Overall, loved my stay there !

We had a great time celebrating a birthday dinner here, and our waitress, Fah, was amazing! The entire staff was very attentive, the food was incredible, and we enjoyed a truly unique dining experience. We will be back!

Great service friendly staffs, cocktails are great, food are really really salty, even on cucumber and cabbage, hope they could change it.

It was horrible. Server was not experienced, grill had trouble often, and the drinks and food came very late. Drinks actually came after we start eating...
Nice 70s and 80s music but just didn’t match to the foods and atmosphere.
On top of it, Asian waitress open the employee only door and slammed my back without noticing.
Worst experience there.

The quality of meat was acceptable/good and food was tasty.

The quality of rice was bad, dry and old. I know other Japanese BBQ restaurants and this place served the worst rice. Gyukaku HQ in Japan would never served this low quality rice.

Amazing as usual. Only thing that was bad was they brunt the garlic fried rice when mixing it on that bowl. Other than that it was great!!

Chosen because of location, had tickets for Public Theater, wary because it's part of a chain, but very pleasantly surprised. Prices are moderate, but it turned out to be "happy hour", and they were amazingly reasonable. All the dishes were excellent, we grilled steak and lamb chops, tasty and tender. Volcano cake as good as I've had anywhere. Pleasant, very informal atmosphere.

We went to the restaurant for thr first time before a show at Joe's Pub. The waiter was really good - explained food, services etc. The food was all delish. We'll be back!

Fun place to get together. Not too much food, so if you have a BIG appetite, this might not be for you. If you’re tired of being over fed this place is fine. A reasonable amount of food for your money. Service is helpful and friendly.

We had a good time we got 2 meat lovers i think it was $65 for 2 people which is pretty good for NYC it was 3 of us and it was more than enough food which we were pretty skeptical about upon our arrival. I do wish we could’ve chosen what seasoning we could put on our meat. Over all we’ll definitely go back.

We used to love coming to Gyu Kaku - the food, service, ambiance - loved it all, but the whole place has really gone downhill. The food was not what I've come to expect of Gyu Kaku - tasteless and tough. The restaurant itself was run down and not very clean. Our server - although very nice and sweet, wasn't very good and was definitely not very attentive. Our reservation was for 6:30 but we showed up at 6 -- NOT busy at all. We should not have had to ask the host to find our waiter. Finally, when making the reservation using OpenTable, I noted that it was my daughter's 10th birthday and asked that something special be done. When it came time for dessert, our waiter had NO IDEA about my special request. It made everything awkward and uncomfortable bc we had to ask her to check our reservation for special instructions IN FRONT OF MY DAUGHTER. Sorry Gyu Kaku - there's no longer a reason for us to come back to your restaurant.

My wife and I came here for a small celebratory dinner. The staff at this East Village location is easily the friendliest staff we have ever met at a restaurant! We both came away from the meal hoping to come back soon.

I made an Open Table reservation and noted it a SPECIAL OCCASION FOR TWO BIRTHDAYS and we received NOTHING until I complained!!! Also, the Manager went to OTHER TABLES yet NOT ours!!! I spent $106.70 in cash with a generous tip!!! VERY DISAPPOINTED and DISGUSTED!!!

Wonderful value for Happy Hour (especially suited for pre-theater dining at Public). Have enjoyed the food here many times in the past. This time there was a small glitch in one part of our order and our server requested (and was granted by the manager) that the item in question be removed from our bill.

My daughter, grandaughter and I went there because we had tickets for Blue Man Group and it was close by. We had 5:00 reservations, and weren't seated until 5:30. That being said, I got lost finding the place and a very nice employee stayed on the phone and directed me there. The food was also good, I am gluten-free and my grandaughter is a vegetarian and we had NO problem ordering very tasty food. I would certainly go again!

This restaurant is our regular going restaurant. We evaluate this very well. However, this time our waiter was so inexperienced and he did mid order and mis charge. We do hope Gyu-Kaku can spend more time for training new people.
