My reservation was for 10, we were seated and immediately took turns using the restroom while my bf was in the restroom the waiter came to take the order and I told him we just got here and my bf will need to look at the menu, he told me well the bar is going to close. I ordered plum wine and because of the rush my bf just got water, he came back 3 mins later wanting the food order so I told him what I remembered ordering previously because I felt so rushed and couldn’t even look at the menu.
The shrimp came out and did not look or smell fresh, he took it away and didn’t offer a replacement because the kitchen was closed, the check was placed on the table as we were still eating, and the bottled sauces were removed. It was a horrible first experience for my bf. Why take 10pm reservations if you’re going to make your guest feel like they have to inhale their food?
Nice service even we arrived early and the staff conveyed us to the table
Nice menu with reasonable price, would come again
Food is good. The problem is that the service is too efficient. We ordered the preset meal for 4. Too many plates are put out at each course. I felt rushed to grill our food. They should reduce down the number of plates put out at each course as the table becomes very crowded and messy to navigate as a result. Note....no free refills on sodas and no hot tea available. Really??? No hot tea at a Japanese restaurant...never experienced that before.
Restaurant needs an update. Bathrooms messy, smelly and unclean when I used.
Gave a big tip for the meal. Waiter still gave us another bill for a $3 iced tea after we already paid because it was missed on the original bill. Yeah....stupid and embarrassing for us and the restaurant. Will move on and find another BBQ place.
The place was nice and the food was decent!
Food was delicious and service was great as usual!
High quality meat
My party arrived on time and it took the host 20 minutes to seat us. It wouldn’t be such a huge issue except she didn’t seat anyone else. So several parties were tightly packed in the waiting area with no breathing room during a time when we should be social distancing due to Covid. The seating areas were empty and our host really took her time to accommodate anyone.
The owners clearly do not care about my review.
I went there with my sister for dinner, the hosts sat us fast. The server was terrible he kept forgetting our drinks & even food items we ordered. And when I tried to wave down the Manager he put one finger up and turned away. Never came back. I will never go there again.
Management is terrible I should've noticed before we sat down & spent $300 for the worst service.
WE REGRET IT
We enjoyed this meal so much, the authentic Japanese BBQ experience and the staff were excellent.
The host was very nice and notified of us of all the specials and happy hour details. The ambiance was better at their 42nd st location but the vibe was almost as good and it just was very comfortable. Safe to say me and my wife had a good time!
Food quality decreased. Use to be way better. Would not go back for a while
Super salty food....but serv
Never been to the downtown location but was a fantastic experieince!! Loved it! Service was fabulous and fast!
Very friendly staff, delicious food, and very reasonable prices!
So much fun! Food was really great! We all had a lot of fun!
Absolutely delicious and fun! Definitely worth it to go with a large group of friends or a date. My firend and I ordered 5 plates a la carte, 3 appetizers, and one large hot house sake inclusive of the wagyu special and after tips was 108 dollars pp to give you an idea of cost.
My guest and I enjoyed our dinner cooking most of our own food. Service is prompt and friendly. I started with spicy beef ramen. Good sized portion and taste. We then cooked a variety of proteins and vegetables. I also ordered the cabbage but am not a fan. My guest got the steamed mushroom medley and was impressed.
👍😋always yummy & very fulfilling
Good fast food. Consistent with other locations. Food came out fast to cook at our table. Great menu selection and happy hour.
Great food and service!
I thought the food was very tasty. Enjoyed the offerings on the multi person set meal and we added shrimp and extra vegetables as well. The spicy tuna appetizer was tasty and a change with the deep fried rice but it was the least spicy tuna I have ever had. Still tasty though and a nice textural change.
My one drawback was that no one explained what each platter of raw meat was as they dropped it at the table and ran off. Just multiple plates of marinated meats that you had no idea which they were so if you wanted to order more of one kind specifically - good luck.
Great service and good food. My favorite neighborhood dining spot. Thanks for reopening this location!!
Horrible health violations
Always very enjoyable
This is an experience you cant miss especially if you haven’t had Korean Bbq. This place is perfect for a date or family gathering.
Kk was great. This location is the best one in nyc. They are the friendliest and they always give me the best experience. I come here once a week and I love it. Thanks guys!
Food was good
It was very fun
Love the food and menu selection!
Great concept to share food in groups. The Happy Hour was great and the prices are fine. Waiters were very attentive.
We had repeated issues with the grill. Grill turned off 5-6 times. Rather than move our table or replace the meat they kept us at the table trying ro make the grill work. The constant failure of the grill made it difficult to enjoy the dinner. Issues occur but our biggest gripe was that in the end we felt like the imposition rather than the people who had their dining experience ruined. It was around the evening rush time but tables were still available so we couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t just move us. It’s unfortunate because we have dined on other occasions but nothing was like this experience. Maybe it was just an off day?
Amazing food and great service!
Daughter left her birthday present under the table, and even though they had just closed they met us at the door with it. Great staff!
good food, poor service, dingy restaurant, smelly bathroom
Food is delicious but the place looks a little dirty. The seats are not clean. I have to wipe it before seating. The server does not come back to check on you. They have to do a better job next time.
Great experience! From Indianapolis and wanted to experience Korean bbq as I have in Toronto and it was an amazing experience. My server was great, she was attentive and I can’t wait to come back.
The service is surprisingly poor. We walk in with a baby and no booster is offered until we asked for 2nd time. They forgot to give us sauces too. It's hot too feels like their ac isn't turned on. Likely won't come back again
Gyu-Kaku is absolutely my favorite restaurant. I've been coming to this specific location since introduced about ten years ago and I always search to see if they have locations in the cities I'm visiting. I bring all my friends and family here if they haven't been yet and that's because of the price, the deliciousness of the food and the experience of cooking your own meal. Once you go you understand exactly why people fall in love. And it's definitely worth it to sign up for their rewards program, it's probably the only rewards program where I've ever redeemed what I've earned. It's great for first dates, lunches, or just small gatherings.
Wish the bathrooms were cleaner and maintained better, but food and service is consistently excellent
