Gyu-Kaku - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
This place was amazing! First time at a Japanese BBQ place and it was very fun. Our server Xavier was very welcoming and explained how everything worked well. All of the staff were friendly as well! This is a great place to go with a group of friends or family. Highly recommended.
We've been to Gyu-Kaku 3 times; once in NY and twice in Streeterville. Both times in Chicago, we had a reservation through Open Table. Both times, we waited more than a half hour to be seated. After a half-hour, I went to speak with the manager who found us seating on the 3rd floor. Once seated, the service is excellent and the food is quite good. We ordered the Shogun- prix fixed menu for 4 guests twice. The food comes very quickly; almost too quickly for the amount of food on the Shogun in order to truly dine rather than rush such delicious food. We will come back. When we return, we would order a la carte as there was actually too much food for us. Wait staff are attentive and pleasant.
Overall it was a great experience (as it always is). The service was a bit slow and they brought out the wrong order multiple times, however. I don't know if they were understaffed or just very busy. It normally isn't that bad. Our out of town guests were very disappointed.
I have tried Gyu Ka Ku in Japan and the food is amazing as there. But the service in this Chicago Local is totally different, they did not treat me well and the waitress that serve was relly impolite. When I asked him to cancel an order that I made from the all you can eat, he answered me that the food was already made which us very difficult to believe. The meat tha he said was ready came after 25 minutes. He told me I have to eat everything if not I would need to pay full price of what is left and that I cant carry it home. In the tabe beside me I saw a party of 15 people taking their food home. I thing since my wife and I are tourist we were not respected
Food was not bad given the happy hour price. Nonetheless, the restaurant did try to charge non-happy-hour prices on some dishes when we checked even before the end of the happy hours. I suspect this is a common practice :( Do check the prices when you ask for the check!!!
Everything here is awesome ! We are from VA and whenever we go to Chicago we always make sure to stop by here! Service that we got was exceptional! Food is great as always! I will always go back here! And make sure you have reservations or else you will be waiting for hours!
The food was excellent the ambience very comfortable. Had a reservation and still had to wait a half hour. The server attending our table was a little rude and didn't adequately explain answers to questions asked far as pricing, gratuity for a group, or counting babies as adults. I would go again but with a different server
