Gyu-Kaku - Cambridge, MA
Traditionally called Yakiniku, this Japanese barbecue spot is known for their delicious, fresh (never frozen), high-quality meats!
Enjoy an ice cold beer as you grill your own meat. Happy Hours offer the best deals on food and drinks, so be sure to wind down and get the night started right with us.
Always my go-to for a nice dinner with friends or my partner. I've been going to the chain since before it came to Boston!
Definitely come here for a fun dining experience! They have an extensive BBQ menu and other rice and noodle dishes as well as appetizers. Having a grill in the middle of the table made the meal fun and great for a group, probably would make a good date spot as it’s more interactive than a regular meal. Staff was accommodating, they came to change the grill every 20 minutes or so. I also like that the tables felt a little private and there were dividers between the tables and lots of booths. I will definitely be going back with more friends or for a date night!
Fabulous as always !
We got the ultimate all you eat option. It was well worth the money. Our server did not rush us even though there was a 90 mins time limit. I think we stayed slightly beyond the 90 mins.
Great place to meet friends.
Had lunch there with my family. Ordered the shogun menu for 6 people. It was great, i love it. Will come back again for sure.
I absolutely love this place!!! The food is always incredible and the service is so attentive! 10/10.
The wait time was so long and I reserved a table at 9:15 and arrived at 9:15 but I was told that I could not dine in because there are other people waiting in line? If so, why would I reserve the table beforehand???? So I waited for another HALF an hour long and finally got to sit in. But the waiter was so slow that we got another 20 min to get the water and to order the food. We were so thirsty and hungry but we did not get anything after we sat in the table. Well, I was really not happy about this and that experience was so terrible. The food overall was good but just not the service.
I’ve been to this restaurant more than a few times, and this time I was a bit disappointed. Cleanliness is not at par as the minute I touched the table it was oily, and the order was not right, ordered two Enoki but receiving one (one order in the bill, phew), and messages told one wait person was not passed well at all (wasting of a time), etc. Gulbi bibimbap was too sweet and meat was to tough. Will see if this will change, hope so!
Utensils and dishware were not clean, plus when we asked the host for the sauce plate, they said they're out of them since they haven't been able to wash them quick enough on such a busy day. When we asked our server mid-meal after seeing tables being set up with sauce plates, server said "oh I didn't realize you never had any." We thought the server would ask us if we wanted anything to drink after handing us our menus, server didn't ask nor was water even served. We had to ask for water later. While waiting for the water, we played with the utensils and noticed the tongs were dirty. We notified a staff member who walked away wiping them "clean" and brought the same ones back to us. We used our hot water to clean our utensils and plates. Our server disappeared often. We understood it's a busy long weekend but we frequently had to ask other servers for help. I had asked for a cup of hot green tea but it never showed up. Luckily we had booked our table in advance because by the time we got there with 15 mins to spare and checked in, the wait list for walk-ins was 1.5-2 hours. We thought it might have been easier for our server if we just cut our meat ourselves so we had asked for a pair of scissors. Instead the server came to cut our meat, which was nice. However, after that we had to flag other staff members to cut our meat since we couldn't find our server. Also before cutting the meat with the scissors, the server wiped the scissor on his apron to clean it... Which we weren't very sure if that was sanitary. Our grill was missing the rim cover too. However, we do appreciate the amount of time we were able to spend there. Even though we did the 90 min supreme buffet, we think we may have been there for 2.5 hours? And only waited 10 mins from our original reservation time.
Awesome spot to go with your friends if you're looking for a good meal
Loved the variety of meats, wish they had more seafood options. The waitress messed up by bring food me and my friend didn't order so always make sure ur getting what you asked for and not some other tables food. Other than that it was great and i can't wait to go again to try other meats.
delicious Japanese bbq available a la carte and as coursed meals with eclectic atmosphere and exciting pairings of wine, beer, and spirits.
Love this place food is always so good and staff is always friendly... always a good time
Serving 13 people must have been a tall order, but Gyu-Kaku managed it well. Plus everyone in the group complimented the value
outstanding experience for people who have never had Japanese style yakiniku food.
The food and service are great. Reasonable priced. The problem is the recently "changed management" -their words-. Let's say you are going to patronize the restaurant with two people and you arrived on time but your partner not. They don't let you sit and I don't know what they are thinking. Maybe I will lay down to two seats just for fun and therefore I am making up I am expecting another person? So irrespectful.
Service was just ok
Fire alarm went off, didn’t want to eat anymore.
Waiter's service level was poor
forgot to bring beer and wait for 20 min then served not cold and without foam
forgot to bring yakiniku and ramen for 20-30min
ramen was not hot
every time I like the food！
last time the beer is not cold enough
We tried summer menu and were little disappointed. Recommend gyu sushi and avoid roast beef gyu-don.
One of my favorite Korean BBQ places in Boston! The prices and portions are outstanding. Will be returning.
Good dinner, service a little bit slow, but always a good idea!
We had a bad start with the hostess, Sandra, telling us that she will seat us only if we finish our food within an hour, because she had to deal with too many reservations after us. It was shocking that I was told to hurry up with my dinner, because my reservation inconveniencing the hostess. It gave us a really bad feeling from the start, we had to call the manager to discuss such unwelcoming message and tone of the hostess. The manager tried her best to accommodate us, smooth our experience and gave us a discount. However, the personnel’s attitude towards guests, which is usually the main source of income for restaurants, is very important. Also, it is important to remember it is not the guests’ problem if the restaurant took too many reservations. Unfortunately, it tarnished the restaurant’s reputation and hospitality.
Nice all you can eat place for bbq. The service is excellent but a bit expensive based on 3 different levels of food offered. Good overall values.
Amazing, I went here for my birthday and I had a great time.
I love this place. This is a wonderful dinner. The food is great, I love the beef tongue with scallion sauce the most. It's always a good place to go if you want to have a piece of Lady M. Service is good, make me happy all the time.
Food is amazing and the drink selection is ample. Had a 8:30pm reservation and was sat at 9:00pm.
Friendly but poor service, mayonnaise in place of nearly every sauce expected, dirty and smelly--badly ventilated for cooking tables. Lots of better meals to be had nearby.
Great place to eat. I went there on a Monday night and it wasn't too busy. Great service and the food was delicious. I would go again!
Good service. A lot of variety. Fun casual environment
It was the second time, I had people in town and I wanted to show them this place. Sadly on the middle of our dinner the grill stopped working and we couldn’t cook the meat that was already there. They took the other meat and cooked for us but it took the whole experience away. Even more sad we couldn’t cook our desert!! I paid for something that I didn’t receive
Should never have offered a 9pm reservation. I brought my boss for his birthday and we were seated on time had drinks by 920. At 930 we were told the kitchen was closing and that we wouldn't be able to order certain desserts or more food. They forgot a rice dish and I had to fight tooth and nail to get it, this was at 933pm three minutes after the kitchen closed. Then we wanted a refill on drinks and were told no. I had to argue another 15 minutes to get more beer with my food. I would have made sure to order more had I known that the cutoff for drinks was at the same time the kitchen closed. Still love the restaurant and the food I will just never arrive after 830 in the future.
We love the food here which is why we go there but each time I am disappointed by the service. Not the waiters. They are friendly and accommodating, but even with a reservation we had to wait. Most recently 10minutes but last time we waited close to 40min. Had we not invested that time waiting, and it was up to me, I would have gone. Why take a reservation if you are not going to honor it? We weren't even late. They just overbooked themselves. They were so busy, they ignored us with no apology or anything afterwards. I wouldn't have gone back if it wasn't for the people I was with who wanted to try the food. Although seated relatively early this time (less than 10min, this with reservation), it wasn't pleasant. We were seated in-between two large groups. It was very noisy as the place was packed. The food, however, was good. Very tender meat, well seasoned. Our waiter was very friendly but hard to catch if you needed something (it was a busy night). But beside the waiting, my gripe is with the cleanliness of the place. I know they were busy but the floor was gross and the bathroom was worse. Nobody bothered to keep the place clean. The food was great, but I am done with the Cambridge chain of this restaurant.
Waiter tried to guilt us into higher tip amount by asking what he did wrong because the tip was only $20 . im not rich man i just spent $60 on a meal per person
This is a chain that I really love and enjoy. This is probably the most poorly run location in the chain. When you spend 100+ for lunch I expect things like sitting down to a clean table and be presented with clean utensils. This doesn't always happen here. Our latest visit the tons at the table were dirty, the table was sticky, the soy containers were sticky with hairy gunk, and the bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The service is always mediocre at this location. Yesterday it was beyond bad. Slow and inattentive the first course took over 20 minutes to be presented. This wouldn't be a big deal if it weren't for the fact they give you 90 minutes after your first order before they boot you out. It made for an oddly paced and not relaxing meal.
If you like this style of food, it is one of the only spots to get the real deal in Boston. When it comes to service and cleanliness, you will have to manage your expectations.
Tasty food and good value.
Slow service and missing several items to remind them for several times.
Fantastic fun! Great food experience and perfect for conversation-starting.
