Gyu-Kaku - Cambridge, MA
Traditionally called Yakiniku, this Japanese barbecue spot is known for their delicious, fresh (never frozen), high-quality meats!
Enjoy an ice cold beer as you grill your own meat. Happy Hours offer the best deals on food and drinks, so be sure to wind down and get the night started right with us.
We used to go to the ones in California all the time. Glad to see the Cambridge location is good, too.
Selection and price value was worth it. Food was very tasty.
Favorite for beef barbeque!
great location for gyu-kaku. the food was great as usual but a bit out of my price range especially for just 1 person during dinner time (non-happy hour). would be great if GK could offer a dinner set menu like they do at some places for lunch for single diners like myself when traveling for business. aside from that, love it and would go back as i enjoy yakiniku anywhere.
The meat is over marinated that you cannot feel the flavor of the meat, but instead the salty&sweet sauce overwhelms it. Still, it’s a good place to enjoy japanese bbq near boston and cambridge. Friendly staff and a variety of food.
The food is great as usual, but the service is just too slow: we couldn't get the utensils from the waitress so we ended up grabbing from the next empty table. And it took forever when we wanted a bowl to share rice...And btw, I really hope the meals provides more choices for sides, the current 2 people meal has a lot of food that I don't like and we ended up ordering by single dishes, and that's incredibly expensive.
If you want to take your friend or family out for their birthday and you can't decide? You can never go wrong with japanese bbq! Its easy, and interactive and best of all there are drinks!
Great service and great lunch deals. Highly recommend!
Service was poor and slow.
I organized my birthday there, the food is very good and service is efficient.
It was great.
We used to love Gyu-Kaku, but I have to say their food and service have become mediocre now. Our grill was not changed, and the waiters and maitre d' were pretty rude.
What can you say about this place? It's all you can eat BBQ! The meats are of high quality and the prepared foods are delicious. The few downsides to the visit were the prepped food sometimes took a while to come out, service sometimes forgot our kitchen orders, and due to the large number of people there, sometimes it got smokey.
Beyond that, this place is always worth a visit.
Great service and the food was delicious. My kids enjoyed it. The restaurant was clean, but a little hard to find. Overall, we had a good time. I didn’t give 5 stars because I ended up getting really sick. The food was great, but I ended up in the bathroom throughout the night.
2nd time i've been here and both times took 15+ minutes to seat me even though I had a reservation. This time around they actually cancelled my reservation by mistake. When we sat down we had to remind the waitress for our drinks and food multiple times. The menu is fun and theres a lot to choose from, and they have a bunch of deals, but the service has been pretty subpar both times
This was an original experience - I'd never been to a BBQ Japanese place before. The food was very good (you cook it yourself - which I had not expected, but it worked out fine!). The menu has many options including some vegetarian ones. The wine was pretty good, to my surprise. The seating was pretty close and it was smoky, so keep that in mind.
Was a relatively unique experience with Japanese BBQ - and cooking your own food at the table. Lots of options on the menu. We ordered the Ultimate Package, an "all you can eat" selection. It was listed $45 per person -- except Friday and Saturday which is $50 written in VERY SMALL letters and numbers - which we found out only when our bill arrived. The 3 of us probably ate enough food to justify about 1/2 of the all you can eat if had we ordered a la carte. Many of the meats were poorly cut and fatty or with a lot of gristle. We didn't like a few of the selections by taste and didn't eat them after trying them (which we figured was OK, because of the "all you can eat" arrangement). Before our check, the waiter said "you have to eat that or it costs more." We thought it was a funny joke that they must use on all their "all you can eat" customers. However, when the bill came they charged us extra for the uneaten food. We didn't over order, we just tried some things that we weren't sure about. So for maybe $75 worth of food consumed and maybe $85 ordered, we paid almost $200 (which was after we asked them to remove the drinks that were ordered by the next table over). So while I don't recommend you eat here, if you go, buy a la carte only and watch what you order carefully.
Food not as good as it is most always!!!
Grill not preforming well today.
Rice had little flavour .
Disappointing time here today!!!!
The service wasn’t so good only the guys serving was better than others the girls
The service as waitress that day was so rude and not friendly. If that day she was tired, pls stayed at home. How can she throw the straws in front of the table and went away. We could not believe it and never seen something happen like that before. We did not ask anything or gave her hard time to serve us except ask for some straws for all our drinks. Thank you
The food was okay but it didn’t meet my expectations
Negatives first....Had 6:30PM reservation through Open Table.. but we were seated at 7:10 PM... sigh... they give you 90 minute time limit to eat the "All You Can Eat"... but there are tens of minutes wasted because the items you ordered during the meal doesn't come out timely... Now the Positives... great food... all the meats we ordered were delicious... Apps were great and side dishes were great. Now some attire tips... not a bad thing but just a tip .... don't wear nice clothes... your clothes (and hair if big haired) will smell like BBQ for days out.
I absolutely love Gyu-Kaku. I usually go to the Brookline location, but accidentally made my reservation for the Cambridge location. The two are very different. I find that the Cambridge location is better for small groups and lunch, which perfectly fit my need. The service is about the same for both locations, however Cambridge is much more quiet and relaxed, which is super nice.
Parking is a bit pricier than the Brookline location but overall I love both equally!
Overall, the experience was good. The price is extremely expensive
I made a reservation around 10 AM that morning for a 9:30 PM reservation. Me and my family got there around 9:15 to see if we can get sat early, which wasn't the case. There was about 20 people waiting in the lobby and we waited and waited. We saw every party around us get sat one by one. Around 9:45 we FINALLY got sat. Fortunately, we were smart enough that we looked at the menu while we waited because last call was at 10:15 (15 minutes before they close.) The worst thing was that when we were the last party to be sat, I walked around the restaurant and saw AT LEAST 3 open tables. 2 booth that could sit like 6 people, smaller table that could hold at least 4 people.. (we were a party of 3). 5-10 minutes before we were sat, I asked the front desk staff when our table will be ready and she said that the manager is walking around what is open... While 3 staff members are eating dinner in the lobby and can't read an iPad to see the 20 tables they have available for us to sit... If you ever been there before it isn't that bag and won't take 5-10 minutes to walk around to see what is open and not and probably no other reservation from 9:45-10:30 if last call is 10:15. Other than the poor front desk staff, the food is good and the wait staff was good. I would recommend for the food, NOT for management/front desk staff.
Thick cut beef tongue is not that good.
This is a great place for Japanese bbq, they have marinated meats. It's a noisy, fun place for group dinners. I came with my boyfriend for the all you can eat, we still think it's overpriced compared to other ayce Korean bbq restaurants, so may just order a la carte in the future. The wait is usually long at this particular gyu kaku if you don't have a reservation. They have fun drinks at the bar while you wait!
Everything was good. But it hard to find parking.
Delicious and awesome service. Set meals have generous portions. Only thing I didn’t like was the salad, but everything else was amazing. Servers were very accommodating and food came out very fast.
We have been coming back here a number of times for brunch and dinner. This time we tried seasonal menus, Flavors of Japan. We liked thick cut beef tongue, okonomiyaki, and motsu nabe. Buttered potatoes were not impressive because the potatoes did not taste like the ingredient from Hokkaido. Otherwise, it is fun to ear here.
Food is great but from pricing perspective it is certainly not in the cheaper range. Waitress forgot one of our orders but in the end it was okay as we realised we didn't need it, place seems to be super busy and the noise level is somehow not a very comfortable level, there are lots of shouting around so I wouldn't recommend any friends with families or young kids to eat here but overall it is okay to us as it satisfied our cravings for the BBQ.
This is the first time I go there. The food there tastes good and the overall service is good. The price is also reasonable. I would like to recommend to my friend. However, three of our four people, except me, felt a little uncomfortable the other day. I'm not sure whether it is because of the dinner but still have some doubts of the food freshness.
Expierence was great! The waiter was nice but too quiet and we couldn’t hear him!
No real complaints, first time and loved it. Our stove was kinda janky but thats it
It was amazing! Out server Christina did an awesome job! Thank you
Very exceptional restaurant, not for the plain diner but if you want some excitement then this is the right place.
More than a great meal you cook with friends, it's a hands on experience that you will want to enjoy again and again.
We appreciated the staff singing Happy Birthday and the complimentary dessert.
Definitely would recommend to any non-vegetarians to visit Gyu Kaku. The food is always delicious and a reasonable cost (for Korean BBQ).
