Gyu-Kaku - Cambridge, MA
Traditionally called Yakiniku, this Japanese barbecue spot is known for their delicious, fresh (never frozen), high-quality meats!
Enjoy an ice cold beer as you grill your own meat. Happy Hours offer the best deals on food and drinks, so be sure to wind down and get the night started right with us.
Great place to eat. I went there on a Monday night and it wasn't too busy. Great service and the food was delicious. I would go again!
Good service. A lot of variety. Fun casual environment
It was the second time, I had people in town and I wanted to show them this place. Sadly on the middle of our dinner the grill stopped working and we couldn’t cook the meat that was already there. They took the other meat and cooked for us but it took the whole experience away. Even more sad we couldn’t cook our desert!! I paid for something that I didn’t receive
Should never have offered a 9pm reservation. I brought my boss for his birthday and we were seated on time had drinks by 920. At 930 we were told the kitchen was closing and that we wouldn't be able to order certain desserts or more food. They forgot a rice dish and I had to fight tooth and nail to get it, this was at 933pm three minutes after the kitchen closed. Then we wanted a refill on drinks and were told no. I had to argue another 15 minutes to get more beer with my food. I would have made sure to order more had I known that the cutoff for drinks was at the same time the kitchen closed. Still love the restaurant and the food I will just never arrive after 830 in the future.
Waiter tried to guilt us into higher tip amount by asking what he did wrong because the tip was only $20 . im not rich man i just spent $60 on a meal per person
This is a chain that I really love and enjoy. This is probably the most poorly run location in the chain. When you spend 100+ for lunch I expect things like sitting down to a clean table and be presented with clean utensils. This doesn't always happen here. Our latest visit the tons at the table were dirty, the table was sticky, the soy containers were sticky with hairy gunk, and the bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The service is always mediocre at this location. Yesterday it was beyond bad. Slow and inattentive the first course took over 20 minutes to be presented. This wouldn't be a big deal if it weren't for the fact they give you 90 minutes after your first order before they boot you out. It made for an oddly paced and not relaxing meal.
If you like this style of food, it is one of the only spots to get the real deal in Boston. When it comes to service and cleanliness, you will have to manage your expectations.
Tasty food and good value.
Slow service and missing several items to remind them for several times.
Fantastic fun! Great food experience and perfect for conversation-starting.
I’ve been here multiple times with friends and loved it since day 1. The other night was the first time bringing my parents and before we even finish eating we were talking about the next time we were going to come. The food and service is always perfect, it’s in a great location just outside the city. There’s literally nothing bad to say!
Quality food, wonderful service, will definitely come back again
Ac was off
The place was understaffed when we went and our orders kept getting messed up. Otherwise the food was up to the typical Gyu-Kaku taste and quality. I would recommend going to the Brookline location if possible, but if you need to get you Japanese BBQ fix, then Cambridge will suffice.
AC was broken so was really hot (the waiter also excused that it is hot because they are a grilling place). Waited 15 minutes even though we have a reservation.
A little expensive to be honest, but the service was amazing
This was my second time going to Gyu-Kaku and I opted for Supreme AYCE for 90 minutes as I did the first time. Food was great as the first time, but we never got our Asian waitress's name nor did we get cooking instructions except for the first two plates. However, after eating for about an hour we were getting pretty full and considered getting desserts. When we expressed this to our waitress, she said it is our last call to place orders and that we can order desserts now and she can bring them later when we want them. I didn't make a fuss at the time because I did think we should stop eating; however, it definitely left a sour taste in my mouth, because we were seated exactly an hour ago when this had happened and we still had at least half an hour to place more orders (since the offer states 90 minutes from when the first order is placed). I mean, maybe I was eating a lot, but I paid a good sum for the offer, and she should have respected that regardless of how much I was eating.
Birthday event. We always come for something.
We had two of our five guests get violently ill following our dinner. The place was filthy dirty and everything was sticky and a mess.
Been here a few times in the past with friends but I introduced it for the first time with a close friend of mine and he fell in love with the place. Honestly, this restaurant has got me hooked, the food is A-Class and the atmosphere is on par. Will definitely be a repeating customer.
It's okay. The food is fine, i think it's a little overpriced for what you get.
We used to go to the ones in California all the time. Glad to see the Cambridge location is good, too.
Selection and price value was worth it. Food was very tasty.
Favorite for beef barbeque!
great location for gyu-kaku. the food was great as usual but a bit out of my price range especially for just 1 person during dinner time (non-happy hour). would be great if GK could offer a dinner set menu like they do at some places for lunch for single diners like myself when traveling for business. aside from that, love it and would go back as i enjoy yakiniku anywhere.
The meat is over marinated that you cannot feel the flavor of the meat, but instead the salty&sweet sauce overwhelms it. Still, it’s a good place to enjoy japanese bbq near boston and cambridge. Friendly staff and a variety of food.
The food is great as usual, but the service is just too slow: we couldn't get the utensils from the waitress so we ended up grabbing from the next empty table. And it took forever when we wanted a bowl to share rice...And btw, I really hope the meals provides more choices for sides, the current 2 people meal has a lot of food that I don't like and we ended up ordering by single dishes, and that's incredibly expensive.
If you want to take your friend or family out for their birthday and you can't decide? You can never go wrong with japanese bbq! Its easy, and interactive and best of all there are drinks!
Great service and great lunch deals. Highly recommend!
Service was poor and slow.
I organized my birthday there, the food is very good and service is efficient.
It was great.
We used to love Gyu-Kaku, but I have to say their food and service have become mediocre now. Our grill was not changed, and the waiters and maitre d' were pretty rude.
What can you say about this place? It's all you can eat BBQ! The meats are of high quality and the prepared foods are delicious. The few downsides to the visit were the prepped food sometimes took a while to come out, service sometimes forgot our kitchen orders, and due to the large number of people there, sometimes it got smokey.
Beyond that, this place is always worth a visit.
Great service and the food was delicious. My kids enjoyed it. The restaurant was clean, but a little hard to find. Overall, we had a good time. I didn’t give 5 stars because I ended up getting really sick. The food was great, but I ended up in the bathroom throughout the night.
2nd time i've been here and both times took 15+ minutes to seat me even though I had a reservation. This time around they actually cancelled my reservation by mistake. When we sat down we had to remind the waitress for our drinks and food multiple times. The menu is fun and theres a lot to choose from, and they have a bunch of deals, but the service has been pretty subpar both times
This was an original experience - I'd never been to a BBQ Japanese place before. The food was very good (you cook it yourself - which I had not expected, but it worked out fine!). The menu has many options including some vegetarian ones. The wine was pretty good, to my surprise. The seating was pretty close and it was smoky, so keep that in mind.
Was a relatively unique experience with Japanese BBQ - and cooking your own food at the table. Lots of options on the menu. We ordered the Ultimate Package, an "all you can eat" selection. It was listed $45 per person -- except Friday and Saturday which is $50 written in VERY SMALL letters and numbers - which we found out only when our bill arrived. The 3 of us probably ate enough food to justify about 1/2 of the all you can eat if had we ordered a la carte. Many of the meats were poorly cut and fatty or with a lot of gristle. We didn't like a few of the selections by taste and didn't eat them after trying them (which we figured was OK, because of the "all you can eat" arrangement). Before our check, the waiter said "you have to eat that or it costs more." We thought it was a funny joke that they must use on all their "all you can eat" customers. However, when the bill came they charged us extra for the uneaten food. We didn't over order, we just tried some things that we weren't sure about. So for maybe $75 worth of food consumed and maybe $85 ordered, we paid almost $200 (which was after we asked them to remove the drinks that were ordered by the next table over). So while I don't recommend you eat here, if you go, buy a la carte only and watch what you order carefully.
Food not as good as it is most always!!!
Grill not preforming well today.
Rice had little flavour .
Disappointing time here today!!!!
