Excellent food and service!
Another awesome meat lovers menu!!!
Incredible food and atmosphere
I had a premium AYCE and enjoyed my meal. This place gets crowded on weekend nights but still it took reasonable time to get my orders. Smoke tends to fill in this place so wear something that's easily washable.
Food and service was great as always. That said, it seemed especially smoky in the restaurant! I haven’t experienced it this bad before, and my hair and clothes smelled strongly of smoke afterward. I wonder if some of the grills need cleaning?
2nd time here ... the stars at Gyu-Kaku are the meats and the experience. The in-table grilling is fun an really well-handled. Each person can grill their own, and the temperature is easy to control. And the meats are all excellently portioned and seasoned. We had skirt steak, ribeye, short-rib, pork belly, sausage, and more -- all cooked up tender and extremely tasty. A fun and delicious evening out!
I frequent this restaurant probably 3-4 times a month. The food is great and the service is usually pretty good. I recommend this place to many people. The last time we went I brought my sister whose never been, it was a party of 4. The food was good as usual. I rarely like to complain at a restaurant. I'm in the food business myself, I own a restaurant. Our server was not into it that night at all. No thank you's after I was saying thank you to her. She must have forgot to put in a couple items we ordered in the beginning, we ordered two of your rice bowls only one came out we had to remind her about the other one after 10min. She didn't smile at all and was barely listening to us when we were giving her our order. Even towards the end when the check came you guys always leave those napkin wipes in the black plastic packs which are awesome, she never brought them. I still tipped 15% even though I felt like it was not appreciated nor deserved that night. The servers ALWAYS ask us at the end if we have the app which we use all the time, she didn't offer us to scan our receipt for points nor did she give the slips to fill out our email like everyone else always does. I'm not going to mention names because I'm not looking to get someone in trouble however I just wanted to bring it to your attention. I will still come back, the food is very good.
The food was great and the service was excellent as well. We didn’t have to wait and it was great.
Great food for great value would recommend to family or friends!
I called them to ask if they have lunch menu on Jany, they said yes. But when I went, they said they didn’t have because it’s holiday.
WORST New Year's Eve dining experience EVER. I had been to Gyu Kaku 6 times already, so I decided to bring my friends over. I reserved a table for 10:15 PM, their website literally said "Come and celebrate New Year's With Us!" Which was a complete lie because when we arrived they said we had 15 minutes to order everything we wanted for the night because they were gonna close the kitchen.
We asked for how long we could dine there then and they said as long as we want (spoiler alert, great big lie). The food was great but the waiters kept trying to make us leave. First trying to take away our soy sauce, then turning off the music, until at last they told us we had 5 minutes to go. They were rude and this was a horrible experience. Not sure I'm coming back. Thanks
I come here about once a quarter. If you're a carnivore, this is the place for you. Wonderful selection of tasty beef options; some chicken, pork and seafood too. Never leave the table hungry. I've done business dinners here too. Cooking together gets folks talking and loosened up.
Nothing but awesome
Timing and attentiveness was spot on! Thank you Nancy. So great.
Food was amazing. Second time eating at this restaurant but my first time at this location
This is a fun place to go with a group. Cooking the food at the table is fun and everyone can participate.
Great for keto eaters. Music could be turned waaay down. Will be back!
Great food and nice way to hang out or celebrate for a group. It is on the pricier end, but we anticipated that. Only complaint is that we had to wait half an hour despite our reservation.
Everything great! The only thing is that we had to wait for our table like 20 minutes
Great food, fun for birthday party, totally recommended!
We have been here many times. I noticed the better management. Many reviews in the past complained about the long waiting time despite the reservation. They provided strict 90 min for all-you-can eat so that the customers who made a reservation can have a table on time. They also divided all-you-can eat into 3 different prices. We chose Ultimate ($50 for Friday and Saturday). However, for the cost performance, it is wise to choose Supreme because more expensive menus are available. If you are a big eater, you should go with all-you-can-eat. Otherwise, the course or a la carte can be better.
Gyu-Kaku is my kids favorite restaurant but we usually go to the Brookline location, as parking for the one in Cambridge can be challenging, and then the restaurant itself seems nicer.
However, this time we did not find a table in Brookline, and eventually we were really pleased to notice a few things in the Cambridge branch:
- we did not have to wait at all to get seated, and the reception staff was nice and polite
- the grills on the tables seemed to be all working great, and no rims were missing
- the waitress that served us was great, very responsive, changed our grill a few times, attentive but not intrusive
We may switch to Cambridge for good (at least on Sundays, when parking is not that bad)
It was easy to make a reservation once I understood the app! I’m always pleased when I eat here because the service and food are great.
the Wait staff is horrible! she was very slow, and no where find all the time! took her more than 30min to bring the check to our table!
I usually come only to this location. The servers are usually friendly, positive and happy. My most recent experience wasn’t the best at all. The server Gabe forgot numerous things, split the checks wrong at least 4 times as well as overcharge us numerous times. Our server, was somehow unable to let me scan my receipt for the code which he directed me to send an email to the customer support yet nobody reached out to me yet. I sent the email Saturday the time of visit. 11-24-18 The food as always is perfect. I tend to go to this location because of the servers but I may have to change my opinion and location for Gyu-Kaku to the one in Boston and not Cambridge.
It wasn’t good that I had to wait pretty long although I had booked a day before. The taste was fair but inferior to Montreal and Japan ones. Bibimba was too sweet and soft.
THE STAFF HIS NAME IS NORD. HE IS PROFESSIONAL SERVER AND MENU EXPERT CAN EXPLAIN EVERYTHING IN THE MENU.
We got the All you can Eat menu (Ultimate). Had really good choices of meat. The food was high quality and worth the price. The desserts for all you can eat were fun. We enjoyed the smores with the open grill. All you can eat is more for special occasions but they do have good lower priced options.
We were seated 1 hr after reservation time. The waiter who led us to our seat offered NO apologies for the delay. After this experience, we highly doubt the liability of the reservation function with OpenTable and the restaurant. If the restaurant does not honor the reservation with OpenTable, I do not see myself using OpenTable to make reservations again, at least for this restaurant.
Great way to share food and conversation.
AYCE $55 definitely worth the price if you know what you really want to it.
Good service ❤️❤️❤️ By Piya. Good was good. Atmosphere was good as well.
Fun place to eat dinner!
Overall a great experience. Took my GF here for a dinner date, I also wanted to try Japanese Wagyu without spending $200+ so this place, Gyu-Kaku was the perfect fit. Gyu-Kaku conveniently touches a parking garage for those who have to travel far to get here. The interior is compact in the waiting area and youre relatively close to other guests in the initmate/cozy restaurant setting but by no means did i feel crowded. We went at 630pm on a weeknight and it was quiet, noise wise, definitely quieter than the average setting. Now to the important part... The service was ok. Granted these waiters/waitresses seem to have more responsibilities given the nature of the restaurant, grill swapping and oiling more small trays of food to be brought , so I understand why they might not be as on top of the customers as a normal (foods already made) restaurant. All 3 menus, yes 3, had various different options for every type of Japanese BBQ lover and was easy to navigate. The food was great and the value was unreal, would be a great meal for almost any occasion. You can order a light fare or pig out, whatever floats your boat.
TLDR: Cozy atmosphere, Quiet (when i went at 630 on a weeknight), great food with big variety, great bang for your buck. Highly recommend
A step above a typical Korean BBQ restaurant. The top tier Supreme all you can eat is my favorite choice because you have access to the best cuts of meat. There are a lot of excellent side dishes as well such as the Addicting Spicy Cucumber.
Great experience! Good food! Server Abby was excellent and very accommodating. Here are several things you can improve:
1. We booked an appointment for 8 pm and we still had to wait for 30 mins. The waiting space is also very limited. Most of us had to stand...
2. The sitting space is also very crowded. We had 8 people sharing 1 stove. I sat on the very edge and was not able to cook without me stretching out. I think max is 6 people sharing 1 stove.
3. The biggest mistake was that I asked Christian for water for our group because I didn't see Abby nearby. He helped us out. I was sitting on the edge and I had a bag of stuff and couple jackets put on the extra chair next to me. However, when he was pouring the last cup, he didn't control the ice properly and spilled some on our jacket. I looked at him, thought that he was going to apologize for it and clean it up for me, but he just stared at me back. He put down the cup and left. I had to stand up and clean up myself. Since it was quite dark in the restaurant, I couldn't see how much water was spilled. I thought maybe it just sprinkled on my jacket, but when I was cleaning up, I wiped out the water on my jacket, and realized that my plastic bag was all wet too! He must have dripped when he was filling every single cup! Good that I have enclosed the bag so it didn't go into my bag, otherwise I would be very mad since it was a gift I bought for my friend in the bag. I regretted that I didn't ask Abby for water because i am sure she won't make this kind of mistake. Even she did, I think she will apologize. We still tipped the regular amount since Abby did a great job. But with Christian's attitude, I was glad that he was not our server and I don't think his quality matches the quality of the restaurant.
We waited for more than half an hour for our table. The food was fun but average. Much better bbq elsewhere. This place caters to the Harvard student crowd. Good value overall but I won’t be back
The food here is really GOOD! I celebrated my birthday here with group of 12. I choose the all your can eat menu. The only thing that i am not satisfied is we had 12 people and spent almost 900$ there but the waitress came to our table for almost 10 times to rush us and said there is another group behind us and asked us to leave in 10 minutes. I think when the restaurant saw the reservation with 12 people and celebrating birthday, they need to arrange the time for next reservation properly. We did not talk too much and not enjoy our birthday cake at all because the waitress said we must leave in 5 mins. I think it is rude.
