It was second time to visit Gyukaku.
Last time, we had a great meal with HH price. Even low price, quality was good. So my son wanted to have his birthday dinner at Gyukaku.
This time, drink OK, server GOOD, but MEAT,,, WHAT HAPPENED???
Meat smelled bad. At first, I didn't say anything to my husband. But I carefully asked my husband and he said he also thought meat quality was bad.
Meat smelled bad and too much marinade sauce on it.
I like many kinds of drink selection there. And my family loves BBQ Sukiyaki Bibimbap.
I hope that it was just something wrong this time.
Lunch with my daughter for the first time in months!
Great experience as usual at Gyu Kaku on Broadway!
New covid practices implemented so the experience is understandably different. We went during dinner (not happy hour) and the menu was very limited. Disappointed the bibimbap is not being served in the stone bowl. That’s my favourite item on the menu so it was not worth it especially since the portion seemed smaller and also was not hot. Other bbq food is still good. Staff was friendly but due to limited numbers of staff you don’t really get checked on as much. This was the first restaurant I wanted to go to once restaurants started opening up so I was a little disappointed but understand that this is the new normal. We will be back but we will just adjust what we order or maybe only come during happy hour.
First time at Gyu-Kaku after they re-opened under their new COVID-19 rules. Food is still great, we ordered the special Kansha set meal. Dipping sauces are provided in little takeout containers instead of bottles on the table, but was enough for us. Ishiyaki bebimbap was mixed in the kitchen rather than at the table, then served on a plate, so unfortunately had no crispy bits. With fewer tables to look after, the servers are even more responsive and efficient. Atmosphere suffers a bit, seems less energetic, but felt safe!
Our server this Saturday afternoon was a bit overworked, so the table and floor needed a wipe, one item was missing/late, and we had to prompt for tea refills and a grill change, but our food was reliably good.
Took my boyfriend here for his birthday. He really enjoyed the food. Cocktails are good as well.
BBQ in a booth, worry free about getting close to other people. Comfortable to dine even at this special situation.
Caucasian server was lit
Great for get together Nice variety of food to grill. Great value
Happy hour specials are getting worse
- The draft beer was flat.
Good service and food. Didn't leave this unit with a strong smell of smoke in the clothes, better than Nelson location.
It was amazing! I have always loved this restaurant and they never disappoint. I definitely recommend it to a lot of people I know and it’s a great environment to get to know the people your with.
I really enjoy coming to this location the atmosphere, service and food are always great!
It is our go to for a date night.
Good tomes
Came to meet with a gf. We got there in time for happy hour (2pm-5pm), where they have a happy hour menu with items priced from $3-$5. The Toro Beef and Umakara rib eye were our favourites. Nicely marinated, the beef had lots of flavour, making the dipping sauces (3 kinds) almost unnecessary. Our bill came to ~ $40 including taxes, for the both of us (~ $19 each before tax) ...but we were stuffed! I really liked the fact that the grills were practically smokeless and that my clothes didn't smell of BBQ meats when I got home!
Fun, good value, good food. Major issue!!! They quit using frozen mugs for the draft Sapporo beer - this a major offence in my book. Salty BBQ meat with a frozen mug draft Sapporo such that the top of the beer had ice crystals and the layer just beneth was rolling, partly frozen - that is one of life's simple pleasures - in my opinion. A pairing that is a 10 out of 10! I will come back, but not as enthusiastically :)
I’ve only been to this location a handful of times, but this location by far has the best service. They were very attentive and very friendly! I usually have to wave down a waiter at other locations but before I could even think about waving one down, one of them would come by. I will say that if you don’t like a place with louder music, you probably wouldn’t like this location — but i think that the music added to the ambience (especially since it was music that I already listen to!)
Would eat here again! Great food and experience. We were early and they had no issues accommodating us. The menu is quite extensive with lots of different choices.
Food is good as usual. It is one of my favourite restaurants. The portion of salad felt lesser than before, but the flavour is still delicious.
Food was good as usual, but i dont like the service. DT location is better
4 of us went and ordered a sharing platter for 4 people. Was surprised the amount of food that came and kept coming. Loads left over not that it wasn’t nice but just because we was so full
Loads of variety and we tried lots of cuts of meat that we would normally eat, all delicious.
Only downside the table was absolutely full with dishes each time we made space more food came
Have been here a few times and always a good experience!
Friendly services, delicious food, very reasonable price
We tried the Dinning Vancouver set of $35 each. We ate too much!! If the 3 of us can order 2 sets, it is better !!
Great service! We arrived early but we were able to get seated immediately which was really nice.
The food is delicious as usual, one of my favorite BBQ restaurants. Happy hour deal is good.
Our server was the most attentive I’ve ever had at any BBQ restaurant. He changed the grill top 3 times - basically whenever it became charred, so our food wouldn’t burn. Super friendly, amazing service.
We had a wonderful time great as usual.
A great place for lunch, dinner or just something casual. Good location on West Broadway, easy to get there by bus. Even if you are not meat lover, there are still lots of choice for vegetables.
Very attentive staff, perfect for a birthday dinner.
Price seems to have gone up since last time... food still good though
The food was great and we didn’t wait long to get it. My only concern was the waiter standing by us with the card machine waiting for us to pay as we were STILL cooking our smores/eating our dessert. I found that rude and unprofessional. He didn’t leave even when he saw us in the process of still eating and stood there until we paid. Food was great, waitor was rude. He couldn’t have waited till we finished our food to let us pay. Smh.
We had our anniversary dinner here on Monday December 9th.
They seemed to have no record of our reservation through Open Table, but I showed them my email confirmation and they seated us right away.
The service was fast, efficient and friendly.
The food was fresh and delicious!
We will most definitely be back!
Love this place! Reminds me of places we are in Tokyo. Very accommodating for gluten free. Wish their was a karaoke place next door to complete the experience.
Food is amazing. Service is great. I would definitely go there again.
We were so impressed by the quality and food service. Would definitely come back 100 percent
Don't even want to address about the poor customer service
Very affordable. Waiter was excellent, spent time to educate us on how to cook our food. Really enjoyed the experience. GREAT value for money.
It was a super fun experience! The service could have been better. There were lots of us that were new to the experience and it would have been great if the server explained the menu. It can be overwhelming for first timers.
