Gyu-Kaku - Arlington, VA
Made a reservation and still got the table by the kitchen and the bathrooms. Annoying. Otherwise fine for the money.
It was great!
We liked the food. Very quick service
Great food, great ambiance and good price point all in all. Would definitely come back again and again.
Sharon was a great waitress. The staff members were lovely and the menu had a lot of options!
The only misstep was that the server forgot to bring the mushrooms (quickly removed from bill when we informed our server) but that turned to be a blessing as we ordered too much! Every dish was yummy - the meat tasted fresh, some lightly marinated, others perfect with the dipping sauces! The addictive cucumbers really were addictive - so crispy, cool and perfect with the spicy chili garlic oil!
This is probably my tenth time there. Prior to that, I have been noticing but ignoring a consistent decline in food quality and value. I only order three cuts of meat: Prime Kalbi, Kobe, and beef tongue. They have been shrinking in size since they first opened but now the size of each order is getting ridiculous and makes the brand look stingy. I'm fine if they just increase the price of each order (they may have already-i didn't care too much about price). Buy shrinking each portion, the thinnest meat (especially seasoned by salt and pepper) easily get stuck to one another (still frozen)and due to the thinness, it's almost impossible to taste meat that are tender in texture. Their kids meal has also gone through a downgrade no longer include marshmallows and gyozas. The only upside is their drinks (very reasonable during happy hours and lunch hours during weekends). I enjoy their drink selection very much and may return bc of that!
We really enjoyed it!
Our 1st visit was fun. We were not too sure how much we should order, so we asked our waiter for recommendations. He suggested one of the packages for two or three people. We opted to order a la carte because the menu has so many tempting small dishes to sample. The fried cheese wonton and pork dumplings are a must. Chili wings are good too; but the Japanese fried chicken thighs were even better. We tried three types of beef and ordered chicken breast to grill. My husband and teenage daughter had fun cooking the meats. The best part of our meal by far was dessert! The Green Tea Crepes cake and ice cream is worth every penny as are the delicious mochi ice cream: leeche and passionfruit were memorable. Thet also come in strawberry and green tea. A very fun family night out. Will return.
Our waitress was so nice, the food was so good as always
Best Friend Date went fabulously well.
Food was very good and it didn't take long. Overal a great experience.
It was very nice
Great food. Very poor wine selections
Why is it so difficult for hostesses to be just nice, especially if your nice to them? If you’re that jaded, find another line of work. If you’re that high and mighty, then go run an empire. On the food side, the higher-end meats were delicious (though still tough and chewy). As for the lesser cuts, don't even think about it. As for the service, it was good, they do try. However, it shows they are slammed, and the customer just has to deal with it. As a spot for a date night, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you just like being fustrated and served YMMV food. Hope this helps.
It was great experience. All the food and drinks were delicious 🤤 they have big portions, please share and see what’s going on 😊
The food was so fresh and good
YES to Japanese-style service from beginning to end, which is better than even most $$$ restaurants in US. Great value for lunch. Right size portions and variety (unlike Korean bbq committing you to $20+ platters of single meat cuts). And smoke vent right inside the grill so no smelly clothing and hair as souvenir of dining. Will definitely be going back.
My friend and I had a great time sharing the happy hour $60 deal. Lots of food and we were very filled
Food was really good and enjoyable experience!
They were out of three of the meats I asked for, and this is the second time it’s happened in a month. The food we *were* able to get was great,
Fun, interactive dining. High quality food and plenty of it! We really enjoyed it and would recommend.
Cute little Japanese barbeque place. It was our first time so I don’t have much to compare it to, but I’m not sure if our grill was working as well as it should have because the food took a lot longer to cook than they said it would. Even for just melting marshmallows for s’mores took forever. However, it was really fun. The service was good and the food was delicious. I’d definitely go back again!
I am Japanese, and from that perspective, it was not as authentic as I would have hoped: too sweet for my taste/ Miso soup came with a spoon in it and was too sweet. (Is not Japanese) Desert was way too sweet.
The quality of the meat was good as well as the beer.
The staff were friendly.
Delicious, casual and fun. Can't wait to return. Very good quality food and service.
Highly recommended. Great place and food! I will come back.
Food is great, service is great, but was at a booth between two birthday parties and it was very very loud. Definitely a favorite place though and I'll be back.
A really cool dining experience that I encourage everyone to try. The hostess was not pleasant at all but our server was very nice and attentive. I’d also like to compliment the manager on duty (not sure of his name) for removing our salmon from the bill after the tin foil burnt up. I know you have to be strict regarding customers not cooking their food properly on the grill but understanding it was not our fault and making no fuss about it was appreciated! I’ll be back for sure but hopefully to be greeted by a nicer and friendlier hostess.
Our favorite spot for drinks and dinner
Food was amazing. And happy hour deal was as well
... skip it. Idk who the serving size is referring to but it sure isn’t my “type”. Their “$75 for 2 people” is actually for just 1 x 5ft 95lb asian female. Either order hella food and spend more ... or just go to any AYCE Bbq and save yourself the frustration.
service was also really slow. 1 hour in and we didnt get the meats yet... pretty disappointing. I heard someone ask if they can just have everything brought to them at one time so... i asked too. There were more servers looking at what plate or debris they can clear from our table than bringing us plates of food. their gas bill must also be super high... that flame was blazing... and underutilized from the lack of food coming through our table in a timely manner.
We went for Thanksgiving and had the special. TONS of meat, very generous amount of food. We ended up having meat left to take home. Everything except the edamame (which I don't like anyway so they may have been excellent to others) was delicious. I would have liked more vegetables as I could have eaten all the vegetables served on my own and then been happy with less meat. The staff was attentive, quickly clearing plates, bringing tea, and changing the grill when it got sticky. We are planning on going back after the holidays. Well worth it and very much recommended.
It was great! I had been to one before and once I found out there was one in Arlington we drove three hours to try it out! The garlic noodles were amazing! Thanks!
Great music, can I have your playlist?
The food was very good. However Gyu-Kaku has raised their prices recently and I do find the new pricing too high for me to go back again.
Everything was amazing! Definitely coming back and telling more friends about this restaurant.
Our server was friendly and relatable. Would definitely come back again. Definitely referring to friends and family
Got together for a join bday and get-together. Food was on the better end of okay, service was great. Usually we do the dinner for 2, this time we did the dinner for 4 and felt like there was less food. Overall it was a good experience.
