Gyu-Kaku - Arlington, VA
Nice and friendly place, the food was great but the wine list does not even mention the wine name... just house chardonnay, house pinot noir, it would be nice to know what one is ordering.
It was fantastic. I would take dates here. I’d have an anniversary dinner here. Hell the happy hour is awesome. Super cheap yet strong drinks. This is my new place to go.
This is a great place for celebrations (but not for romantic or quiet meals)! The meats were of high quality and seemed quite fresh. The fresh meat plates seem to be small at first but there were so many that came - we left the establishment quite full and happy! The appetizers were also tasty - sukiyaki bimbimbap, tuna volcanoes, fried dumplings and fried chicken. Our waiter was superb, replacing our grills twice and telling us how to cook each different cut of meat.
Really enjoyed it. Don't know what else to say to fill in 50 characters.
We thought the Samurai Course for 4 was just enough food and paced thoughtfully by the wait staff. We especially enjoyed the Miso Soup and Garden Salad which everyone agreed was more flavored and robust than the usual starters in packaged courses elsewhere. A good assortment of meats, accompaniments and drinks in a comfortable, modern setting; the only thing lacking was the one medium, flat tasting shrimp per person.
The food overall is delicious and service was great. Since it’s pay by plate things add up to be somewhat pricy, but it’s a good place to splurge. You do get good quality for your money, the meat cuts are worth it. Would recommend to others, and will definitely come back.
The place is popular so make sure to get a reservation!
Wonderful! Staff were accommodating even when we were late.
So yummy my fav place
Impeccable service! Great food, can't really complain about anything else.
Great place for good food and nice atmosphere. Group friendly and they take reservations. Staff is friendly and helpful and they change the grill frequently so that the food gets a great flavor from the fire. Depending on the size of the group, I'd recommend one of their pre-built menu items and then order more of what you love as you go.
Tables are not comfortable if you’re tall. Your knees will not forgive you for a week.
The kitchen closes at 10. We had a 930 reservation, they sat us down at 945 and sprung that on us. Service responded accordingly - they were rushed taking orders from other tables as well.
Having such a late reservation meant we were stuck by the restrooms; which was meh. We’ve been at the restaurant before and there really is no great seating at the place, so being by the RR didn’t mean as much compared to other restaurants. There wasn’t any smell or anything, but just meant more foot traffic coming by the table, so less private.
Food was good, sake was good, everything was good, but rushed.
Great service the server Zach was brilliant and we had a wonderful time.
2nd time going all the food is amazing especially the chicken teriyaki!
It was a good experience. The service is great!
The food is worth to try.
One of my favorite restaurants from California, I was excited that it finally made its way to DC. Food and service was amazing, and consistent with my experience at other locations. We were seated right away, and our server took good care of us. Ordering a lot of dishes can really add up, so no need to splurge on the wagyu beef when you can get more cuts of meat for less!
The service and quality of the meat was really impressive. All our food came out quickly and tasted great. The manager, Patrick was very attentive and stopped by several times to check in on us. This was our first visit but definitely won't be our last!
Delicious delicious delicious. Wonderful place highly recommended
I've been to one of the Chicago restaurants twice before. To be honest I don't know what's different but maybe it's just in my head. The Chicago one was better. Here in Arlington I would say the meat quality is really good and the ambience and service are nice too however here in D. C. I've also tried Korean bbq and in comparison to Japanese bbq you get a lot more for your money in the Korean and the meat quality is just as good.
I’ve visited twice, first with a friend, second with the family. The food, service and experience were great both times. There happy hour specials at the bar are notable, as are the sides offered on the menu. Don’t miss the spicy cabbage salad, schshito peppers, and the klobe.
We had to ask for more of the dishes from the meny and the piece of Meat was burned, well we got a New piece but it seemed like the waiter lost the overview.
the service was soooo rude, i went there during the lunch on mother's day we will not gonna comeback it's so disappointed!!!
I got there at 1:30pm and was told lunch special was over. Huh???
poor service for the lunch time. We have to wait for 20 min until the first appetizer and another 30 min for the first meat dish to be delivered to our table.
It was delicious
Decent yakiniku but thoroughly inauthentic in two ways. First, yakiniku is about the quality of the ingredients. But that was not evident in what was served. The "filet mignon" for example was cut from the head of the loin and was loaded with gristle. The garlic noodles were overcooked and almost yucky. Service was over-enthusiastic and fawning, almost patronizing. Overall...good enough. But don't make a special trip.
Second time eating at Gyu-Kaku. Glad we had a reservation. Even on a Monday at 8pm, it was hard to order more food, get refills, ask about dessert and get the check. A couple of times, we were told that someone would be right back, but it didn't happen. One of our orders was misunderstood. Still, the food is delicious and the dining experience is fun and unique, so we will be back.
Great but the happy birthday celebrations are annoying and brings down the ambiance to a less special level
I chose this restaurant for a work dinner and could not have been happier with our experience. While we waited for our table (6 of us and we arrived early) we ordered drinks at the bar for crazy happy hour prices. The servers took really good care of us - making recommendations and helping explain the food and how long to cook it. We had a great time cooking the meat and veggies. We chose the meal that was supposed to be for four and were stuffed even though there were six of us.
First time here, I was looking for a place where you can cook your own food. My boyfriend was nervous but we ended up loving it. We will be coming here more often and bringing more and more people with us. Great food! Great service! So friendly!
A really good experience - we’ll definitely come back😊
The food was awesome. Staff was friendly and accommodated my needs (I have a 7 month old baby).
delicious Japanese barbecue，fresh meat and good feeling environment
Awesome location! Great food and service. Highly suggest.
It was a cool place to visit; cooking your own meat on a grill at your table is quite an adventure. It didn't go as smoothly as we'd hoped however; our order somehow got confused and the wrong food was brought to our table. One dish was completely forgotten, but we weren't charged for it, so that was good.
Awesome Experience! Our family spent 4 years in Japan and craved yakuniku! It was so good! Great food, great service, and family friendly!
It was definitely worth trying for the food part, the ambiance is just ok, but decent for a small gathering, dont expect too fancy setup. We end up spending $130ish for two people dinner meal, including drinks, tips and tax. I will schedule a comeback just for the tasty food though.
The quality of the meats were so good and the staffs were all so nice. Also this was for my birthday which my daughter and son-in-law arranged for me. The staffs sang birthday song for me. It was such a fun and delicious night.
Great place to gather with friends.
Tasty, flavorful meats, fresh shrimp, great marinades, and superb service! My friends and I were first timers and we all agreed that we would be back. A wonderful addition to the neighborhood?
Come here to eat high quality meat - Menu Sets highly recommended. Happy Hour at the bar m-f is nice too :)
