About this restaurant

A restaurant that earned two stars from New York Times and ranked among Esquire magazine Top 12 Best New Restaurants in the Country, Gwynnett St. is one place where the magic happens behind the kitchen doors. The interior and exterior of the restaurant are deceptively plain and simple, which makes the food all the more amazing. Notoriously difficult to get a walk-in table, Gwynnett St is one place where making a reservation in advance is encouraged. The menu is crafted and designed by chef Owen Clark who took the place from chef Justin Hilbert. The whiskey bread in particular is a favorite and among one of the must have items for diners. Unfortunately, Gwynnett St eventually closed its doors in 2013.

Gwynette St. was a wonderful dining experience. The service was outstanding, and our waitress gave the best recommendations! The Whiskey Bread, to start, is one of the highlights. Lathered with butter or dipped in sauces, the bread is truly outstanding in both taste and consistency. I recommend keeping some for later to dip in the left over sauces of the following courses. For appetizers we had the Pig Ear and the Celery Root. Both had incredibly unique tastes, the highlight perhaps being the egg-yolk-celeryroot-almondsauce combination. Finally, the Duck with red beet spaetzle should be ordered by everyone who walks in. Overall, everything was done very well, and not overdone, as is the case with a lot of upscale restaurants.

Dined at Gwynnett St's in dec 13, the place is a restaurant bar, with nice warm ambience. Jazz music in the background, brick walls, tables sufficiently spread apart relative to ny standards. I rode from Manhattan (convenient 3 L line stops from Union to graham) to a pleasant dining experience and was happy with the choice. Food is well prepared and very well presented. Menu is concise following the one-word-description now in fashion, that leaves an element of surprise but waiters were prepared to explain the details and the surprise was consistely on the positive side in our case! We had beef and deck, both extremely well cooked. Budget around 85 bucks 2 courses, glass of wine, dessert. Pleasant place, fancy but not stuck up.

We came from Manhattan after hearing the hype and reading the reviews. The service was lovely, casual and attentive. The menu too sparse... only 6 appetizers and 6 entrees... not very satisfying but we made the best of it but found the food overly ambitious. Someone was trying too hard when creating the menu. The chicken in ash was tasty but the entire dish was lacking. The scallop appetizer lacked flavor. The pig's ears were like pork cracklin's in something. Nothing meshed. I mean, it was all okay, but you couldn't say, "wow. This is not a worthy contender to the likes of Dressler," in Williamsburg. But, hey, the tables were full - so what does that say? It says, maybe it's just the hype.

Interesting food, very trendy. Thought our main courses were delicious, but the appetizers tried too hard. A salad of sunchokes with scallop and seaweed was cold and slimy, tasting like something found on the beach. But main courses very good. Desserts: peanut, pear, banana or parsnip--trying a little too hard. Wonderful service--waitress great at explaining everything.

I am very impressed with this restaurant. The food was innovative, and incredibly tasty and in reasonable portions (read that as I was able to walk out comfortably as opposed to being overstuffed). Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive without being overly so. The exposed brick walls really don't give you a hint of the food experience to come- when we walked in we wondered if we were in the place that had received such rave reviews- it deserves every one of its positive reviews. I will definitely be going back

Overall, the food experience was good but frankly too expensive. The chicken entree was the best I've ever had though, but the steak was only average if even that. This is a restaurant that you go to once, maybe twice. A very limited menu with am average atmosphere.

As in, made my face happy. We got the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing and it kinda turned into 9. The wines that were paired with each dish went very very well, and each dish came out perfectly timed with the last. I highly recommend the tasting menu, and the wine pairings are a great deal.

Great place, food is amazing. The duck was outstanding! I had the chicken which was very tasty and the whiskey bread is not to be missed. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Great wine list.

We splurged as it was for a birthday and went for the tasting menu along with wine pairings. The service was impeccable, well timed and the wine served quality and a excellently paired. The tasting menu was a delight. One of the best valued tasting menus I have experienced in many years. The food was fresh, perfectly prepared and exciting, The chef is a genius. Well recommended.
