The food was delicious and excellent service. Great dinner date with my wife.
VERY disappointing! I would not recommend Gwen for a special occasion! My husband and I came here to celebrate my birthday, which I noted when making the reservation, however, no one from the staff acknowledged this in any way or wished me a happy birthday.
Great food and service! Beautiful restaurant. Definitely one of my top 5 restaurants as the food here is consistently good.
Taste of Gwen was fantastic! Perfect for date night.
Incredible steak. Incredible service. You will absolutely not regret coming here. Must visit in LA!
Loved the food and ambiance. Service was great but our server felt like a robot. Didn't emit any personality, not a smile, it was odd.
If you like Wagu, this seems to be the place. But the rest of the menu was limited!!
The food was absolutely incredible, our server helped us with great recommendations and went above and beyond for us. Chef Juan and his crew blew us away with how incredible the food was. Definitely going back
Great restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Fabulous food. Impressive wine list. A perfect special occasion place!
Best meal I have ever had. Steak was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend the carrots and duck fat potatoes as a side. The ceviche and rice cracker was the best I've ever had. The lobster roll was incredible... Also the bread and butter... Wow. Can not say enough good things about it.
Absolutely wonderful! All of the food is made in-house and everything (including the flatware and steak knives) has a "story" to them. Our server was incredibly knowledgable (Australian brunette, can't remember her name!) and for any question we had for her, she had the answer. We ordered the Taste of Gwen pre-fixe 5 course dinner and were blown away by each dish. They have an extensive wine list as well that begins in the $80 range and goes up from there.
Overall, we had an incredible time and will be back in the near future. We definitely recommend!
Dinner was phenomenal, and the staff was as well. We were even given a tour of the kitchen!!! Curtis Stone himself was there this evening!
Our second time dining at Gwen celebrating my husbands birthday and I must say it did not disappoint!!! Overall everything was excellent!!!
The food is undeniably outstanding. And the room is simply gorgeous. The only ding on Gwen was our unpleasant server. We normally tip upwards of 25-30% and as low as 15% if the service is bad. I found our server to be so unfriendly that I was inclined to tip 15%. Unfortunately, there was an 18% service fee automatically included for all parties.
Meat was divine. Could not fault it. Ambience was great
Food, service, everything was excellent. I wrote in my request that it was a special occasion and would love a romantic table etc. I feel like restaurants never really read these details but included it anyway.
We were really late (I called in advance to let them know) and had a showing at The Pantages, which really dug into our time there. The Hostess advised that they prepared a romantic corner spot for us (so she read the request!) but in the interest of time, advised we sit at the Chef's counter. The staff literally hopped into action and made sure we were going to make our show-- it was legit Be Our Guest mode from Beauty and the Beast. Our server Jeffrey took special care of us and even sent us off with a box of chocolates since we didn't have time for dessert.
The food was excellent (all of his recommendations were incredible).
Looking forward to going back again - might have found our new spot.
Pleasant and accommodating waiter. Food decent. Poor value/Scallop Entree skimpy and over priced, no veggies paired with it. Chicken terrine dry and flakey, not moist. Timing of food good. Ambience nice. Simenon e the front worker, maybe management were dry and unwelcoming.
Gwen was excellent. Our server, Amanda, was fantastic and did a great job of guiding us through our first experience here. We went with "A Taste of Gwen" and added the Duck Breast entree on top of it, with a strong urging from Amanda (we were debating that or the Lamb Leg appetizer and VERY happy with our duck selection). The food was exquisite - we dine out at restaurants of this caliber often, and I think Gwen served us three of the best preparations of specific meats we had ever had (the scallop, duck and NY strip). The charcuterie plate lived up to the bill of the butcher shop, and we're excited to return and order some of the Wagyu special reserves they have. The restaurant itself pays attention to every detail, from individually sourced cocktail glasses to hand thrown plates and of course the wide selection of steak knives you can choose from - and the knowledge Amanda was able to impart on each of these helped the experience that much more. Overall, in all areas, Gwen shines.
Gwen is amazing. The service and Decor are impeccable and food is delicious —-but so so rich. I request that they add vegetables or simple sides to their menu that just have a squeeze of lemon on them and nothing else. It is needed toto cut through all the richness of the other food. I love it but my body just doesn’t feel good after I leave. Perhaps I need to have more self-control??
Gourmet and gourmand! My first experience was the chef's menu which was great! It's hard to please a french person who grew up in a farm with a huge garden and an active family in the kitchen! One of my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles!
The upstairs dining area has no ambiance whatsoever. I’d understand a private party up there but a table of 3 people on a Wednesday night to be sat there is obnoxious. There were so many empty tables up there you felt like they put you in a broom closet. After spending $500 will not be going back again. Food was as expected and fine.
Just a wonderful night out, GLORIOUS food, AMAZING ambiance. seriously enjoyed
This restaurant is on point. Definitely a must try if you are in the area and worth the drive if you are not.
The food and service was amazing. This is not a place to come on a budget, but great place to celebrate a special occasion.
Ordered a bottle of wine. It had clearly turned bad , but the waiter and person responsible for the wines that evening (real sommelier was off duty?) both kept defending the wine as being ok and that it had a distinct taste...
More than 1 hr wait time past our reservation time. This is ridiculous for place that takes your credit card number to make a reservation and they will charge you if you don't cancel more that 48hrs before the reservation.
Excellent food and service. We had the prix fixe meal and it was a very good price for all the courses, all of which were excellent. We told them that it was our anniversary and we were greeted with a happy anniversary from the hostess to the waiter and got a complimentary glass of champagne. When we left we were similarly wished a happy anniversary. Not an elegant restaurant but very comfortable and worth a visit.
Great meal with a great friend! Had the Taste of 5 option and an excellent bottle of wine. Will return soon!
Great food. Very expensive.
The food is delicious... service impeccable... everything about Gwen is 10 stars
Absolutely outstanding. My husband and I came here looking for an option near the Fonda theater, and were very surprised at what we found. We knew Gwen had a great reputation, but I as a pescetarian was unsure of how we would make out, but we were both equally amazed at the quality of the service, the food (both meat and non) as well as the atmosphere. We sat at the counter to watch the kitchen staff and had a fantastic time watching them and their impeccable technique as well as chatting with them in their down moments. Couldn't recommend more!
The food is good and the restaurant space is beautiful, but the service was terrible. For such high prices with a mandatory 18% gratuity the service should be beyond excellent, it was nowhere close. Not worth it.
Food was second to none.. oysters fresh and best steak I’ve had for a while.
got off to a shaky start when the door host was rude and left us sitting at the upstairs bar for 20 minutes after our booked seating time.
Manager made it up with a free round of drinks. So that nice.
Waited 1hr for my meal. Confusion in my order was only noticed after I kept questioning .... comped me 2 side dishes that I told my server I didn’t like while ordering .... just not the best evening
We've brought our friends and client's to Gwen. Always enjoyed the food and dining experience.
Fun dining experience! Innovative plating. Fresh and vibrant flavored, good matching up of compatible tastes. Charcuterie rocked! Steak was perfectly prepared. Tasty sauces and good bread and butters. Immaculate venue. Uncomfortable chairs. Wine pour was skimpy. We had 5 o'clock reservations, but the valet parking gate did not get lifted until exactly five.
We booked a 930pm reservation, got there at 845pm, and didn't get seated until 1015. After we were seated it took a while for the waiter to greet us. Finally after the waiter came we placed our order (we ordered charitere platter waggu beef tartare, duck breast and creamed leeks) and another while before we got our beef taratre. I have had better tartare from other restaurants. The charitere board was ok... nothing special. It took over 30 minutes after we finished the charitere platter to get the duck. Supposedly the kitchen didn't have the side that was supposed to go with it so they substituted (with our permission). They brought us extra sides to make up for it but by this time we we're done with the experience. The duck was normal, the creamed leeks we're good, the beets (that they gave us complimentary) were good, the duck potatoes were not good. We didn't leave until 1130 with all the delays. Very disappointing experience with all the great reviews on open table. (Which I used to review and book)
A delicious meal. Great service and special treatment for our anniversary
So the food at Gwen is very good, although on the expensive side.
The issue is the service. We had 7:15 reservations. When we arrived at 7:15 we were told that they were resetting se table and to wait at the bar. Looked around and knew that was not the case. 20 minutes later we asked what the story was and were told that our table was finishing desert and we will be seated as soon as possible. Finally seated almost 30 minutes late. This from a restaurant that is very upfront about charging $50 per person if you cancel your reservation within 48 hours. You would think they would not overbook and keep customers waiting. By the way, the manager did not offer anything to drink while we waited.
The service was not much better when we were seated. It took forever for the food to come out of the kitchen. Almost 90 minutes after we ordered we asked if the steaks (which we were told take 45 minutes to cook) were ever coming out. Was told that the kitchen was backed up and the food would be out as soon as possible. Didn’t expect when i made a 7:15 reservation that we would be getting our dinner at 9:30.
Decided to skip desert when we were told the chocolate cake would take 15 mins to cook (figured we needed to double their time estimates at that point).
Was also told the manager was aware about the issue and would come over to talk to us. Never saw him and no effort to try to provide something complementary based on the poor service.
By the way, don’t think we were the only table with this issue. I know the manager was talking to the table directly behind us and they were not happy either.
Did i mention they knew it was a birthday celebration dinner
