I love coming here, sat by the window on Valentine’s Day and had a chill but awesome meal with a pitcher of beer. Great service and fantastic kimchi hot pot!

All our dishes were awful. Last time I went was about 5 years ago and had a very different experience this time around. Our steamed muscles were super bland and not fresh. Our soupless ramen was extremely salty. Our kimchi udon sauce consistency was watery. It was one of the worst meals we've had in a long time.

Ordered dessert but it never came. The servers forgot we were there.

Our food and drinks came quickly and everything we ordered was delicious. I like how the bathrooms required keys. This helped ensure that only one customer was in the small bathroom at a time during the pandemic.

I've been a longtime customer of Guu. Back in 2011-12 when I lived in Gastown, I'd go at least once a month. It's one of the first places I recommend people visiting Vancouver to go and dine at.

It has changed a little bit over the years with staff turnover etc but I feel like it's very much the same place as it's always been. I'm sad that Okonomiyaki isn't on the menu anymore though.

Food is great and the service we received was amazing. Our server was super friendly and responds quickly.

Fabulous! We were looking for a lighter dinner somewhere “hip” and fun. We found Guu Otokomae in Gastown. We are very familiar with Guu Original on Thurlow and thought we would try this one. We were pleasantly surprised, different food items but excellent as well. We were not disappointed, good selection of small plates, extensive drink menu. We ordered the ebi mayo, sockeye salmon sashimi, and the salmon with seven friends (which was a mix of cold ingredients including “natto” which is a fermented soy bean - delicious but an acquired taste) which you spoon onto dried seaweed wraps - all delicious. Great food, great drinks, great old building- loved the huge, opening windows that give the place an airy, open air feel letting in the evening.

Amazing food. We got a window seat with open air flowing through, it was a bonus during the pandemic. Also, hand sanitizer are on every corner of their place. They have a few lunch options which the price is good for the quality.

Food is fantastic as always. What an incredible server we had. She was the only one working and did an amazing job!

Server forgot to take order from a diner. Another server/busser brought wrong food. Two diners waited over 10 minutes for their meals while the rest of the party ate theirs.

Food was good but wait staff/kitchen not on point.

The pork belly, steak bowl and chicken karaage were delicious. The daily specials and drink specials were great value and very refreshing. The staff were extremely careful when dealing with customers and very diligent in wiping down the table and chairs for the next customers. The ambience was great. Highly recommend.

Dumplings were good but that’s all. The rest was to be honest....disgusting. I do not recommend at all!

Always loved guu but recent experience has bee mediocre at best. Beer in tap has been lukewarm and tasted stale. Tried over 3 visits but no improvement 🤷‍♀️

We had a great time at Guu Otokomae! The food and drinks were awesome and their protocols for covid made us feeling safe.

they really took the social distancing seriously and did an excellent job with it.

As usual overall value and selection was great and does not break the bank. What was a bit dissapointing was that in the future it would be better if we were told in advance that we have to be wrapping up within 2hrs. If that was the case i would have booked maybe 30 minutes earlier so we can enjoy beverages etc as starters.

I thought we would have something a little different for a Japanese lunch and I found Guu Otokomae in Gastown. Be warned that this is not a sushi bar or teppanyaki den. Our group of three decided to be a bit adventurous and ordered: Miso Soup, Sashimi Salad, Salmon With Seven Friends, Takoyaki and the tempura meat lunch. Desert was Guuu'd Burning Custard Pudding. All dishes were quite good but the Salmon With Seven Friends was an acquired taste. This had diced wild sockeye salmon w/ natto (fermented soy beans), pickled cucumber, pickled daikon, garlic chips, crispy wonton, green onion, fresh raw egg yolk, "otokomae" made miso garlic sauce which are mixed together and spooned into the roasted seaweed wrap. Texture is a bit slimy but one of us had more than one serving! The Burning Custard Pudding was flambe’d with brandy - delish! The atmosphere was mildly energetic for a lunch crowd and the service attentive. Prices are reasonable. This was a good find!
