The executive chef and owner Giancarlo Balestra with his wife Nancy bring the vibrant flavors of his native hometown of Rome, Italy to Hilton Head. The couple who met in Rome 28 years ago discovered their shared passion for food and adventure and have since owned and operated restaurants in Aspen, Co, Winter Park, Fla and Saratoga Springs, NY. They fell in love with Hilton Head while visiting the island serendipitously at the moment the former "843" Restaurant location became available. They also happened to be staying at the Marriott resort in room #843! They decided to jump into this new exciting culinary adventure, hence the name Gusto, which means flavor and taste in Italian but also means a zest and enthusiasm for a delicious taste of life. The restaurant has a full bar, extensive wine list. The Italian born chef's menu stays true to
We enjoyed our New Years Eve dinner here , made some new friends , and had a totally enjoyable evening ! Our first time and we will come back !
Great service, very good food, rather crowded and noisy when we were there
The total experience was outstanding. We will be back.
Excellent meal. The food is so good! Mar
I want to go back to Hilton Head just to go back to the restaurant. Where else does the owner check on you every 10 minutes or so to make sure your dining experience is going well? Food was fabulous but left feeling like family.
Our dinners were delicious and the service was exceptionally friendly!
Mario makes you feel like family. Service is professional and friendly. Gusto is my new favorite restaurant on HHI.
This was our first visit to Gusto and from the first,Knute we arrived they made our family feel welcomed! The food was delicious and the service outstanding. We will definitely dine here again!
The service was great and the food was amazing! We keep talking about it but unfortunately our vacation there ended so we are home but will definitely go back!!
Mario and Antonio are an unbeatable combo - Mario at the door, checking on your dinner as you go and Antonio providing service for your meal - excellent. the cuisine is very good and consistent and there is a hum of satisfaction throughout the restaurant by all attending. Really special experience.😊
Our Christmas Eve meal was spectacular. This first time visit did not disappoint. Antonio and Mario took great care of us and made our experience memorable. Veal parm and Spaghetti carbonara. Delish. We shall return!
Such an awesome place. Great food and service
The most outstanding feature of this restaurant was the hospitality of the owner, Mario and our server, Patrick. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and attended to. The menu is appealing, the food is good and the portions are huge. The prices set an expectation of fine Italian food (for Hilton Head pricing). We had a pleasant dinner at Gusto, but, given the many excellent choices of Italian restaurants available in the area, we will probably not choose to return.
Wonderful ambiance. Knowledgeable staff. From appetizer to dessert was outstanding. Nice, nice wine list. This is going to become a go to restaurant for us!
Antonio and Mario are the best. It’s like dining at your favorite Italian relatives house... Excellent puttanesca, chicken parmigiana, pasta with eggplant.
Very attentive service and excellent food !
My wife and I had a very enjoyable evening at GUSTO! We started with the fried Calamari with a side of light Marinara sauce . My wife had the evening Special which was Sea Bass with Clams and Mussels also in a light sauce. I had the Gnocchi with Gorgonzola Cream sauce. All accompanied by a very good Pinot Noir. All the food was fresh and tasty ! Service was warm and friendly Italian. One of the best Italian restaurants in the area. We would definitely recommend GUSTO.
We had a wonderful meal and our waiter was amazing... showed up at our table often to make sure things were going well but not too often as to be annoying. Highly recommend!
The steak special was awful. Ordered scotch, got bourbon. Waiter said no charge, but was I was charged $10.
Great Italian restaurant. The manager made us feel like family.
The host, Mario, and Waiter, Antonio make you feel like you are a part of the family. The entire staff is attentive and energetic which makes for a wonderful dining experience. Wouldn’t think of going anywhere else!! Thank you for a wonderful experience.
We had an enjoyable dinner during Thanksgiving week. The lasagna was different and quite good. The breaded Pork was wonderful. We will be back - next year!
We had an amazing date night dinner. The Chanti, garlic bread, veal parm and ceasar salad were all delicious and the staff was great. Mario and Antonio were welcoming and friendly. We will be coming back.
It was our first
time to try Gusto and we will
definitely return. The dinner we had was excellent
Antonio is a fabulous waiter which only made the food taste that much better. Such a warm and friendly place. No one rushed us, just a great relaxing meal.
We returned to Gustos on the second week of our trip to Hilton Head. We were greeted as old friends and enjoyed a wonderful Italian dinner
Excellent food and great service. Made to feel you were family. Highly recommend.
Our dinner at Gusto’s was nothing short of superb. Mario greeted us at the door and led us to our table for 6. Water was served immediately and Patrick, our waiter, was waiting for our beverage order. Since our party members all grew up outside NYC, we all felt as if we could be in a little Italian restaurant in Brooklyn. Each meal was deemed fabulous and the service was excellent! I had the special seafood risotto, which is a litmus test for me. The risotto and seafood were perfect! My only fear is posting this review and adding to this restaurant’s popularity, is that on my next visit to HHI, I might not be able to get a table!
We met Mario (owner) at the door, who seated us. Wonderful service by Patrick, et all. Fabulous red snapper special. Excellent lasagna. Antipasto and spinach salad. Chianti. Followed with gelato and cannoli. A kiss and a hug from Mario. We’ll be back.
Great place to dine! Excellent!
Mario is always a gracious host and and Antonio exemplifies service. The cuisine is always delicious and they do change the menu so you are not always looking at the same entrees etc. Love it.
Mario the maitre de is fantastic! His attention to the details of making his guests happy are top notch! All of the food dishes were excellent! The menu choices are numerous as is the wine list. The wait service was professional and prompt. We will definitely visit again.
Wonderful service. We felt like regulars even though we were visiting from Canada.
The staff and owner go out of their way to provide an outstanding experience. The food is delicious.
We like our food hot and informed the waitress up front, she replied, "no problem". Well the food came out warm, not hot, so we asked for a "warm up". When it came back it was warmer, but still not hot.
The waitress was new and the level of service was not up to par. Our previous visit we had an efficient waiter which made all the difference in the world.
I was disappointed with my dish which was Osso Bucco [spelling?] and noodles. This came with the meat all cut up in little squares and mixed into the noodles. This dish was a big disappointment and I do not recommend ordering it.
The owner[?] served a dessert at no charge which was very nice but I'd try another Italian restaurant first before returning here.
Our first time dining at the restaurant and it will be a favorite when we relocate to the area
Great dinner (had the veal osso buco) . The real treat was how friendly they were. True Italian hospitality.
Excellent dinner. One of the best that I have had on the island.
Mario, the proprietor, is very gracious. He did his best to correct issues with our dinner and that is very much appreciated. The kitchen perhaps just gaI hope that we were there
I have eaten in the North End of Boston and Little Italy I NYC, this is Italian restaurant that is on par with any of these places. Solid menu and excellent service. What I like is you don’t have sell your Rolex to eat here.
Top shelf authentic Italian food. Mario is part of the environment as a big plus.
Outside and inside. Good parking.
