Gustav's Pub & Grill - Vancouver
Great German food. Good beer choices. Nice environment.
We had a wonderful evening. My husband had the chicken schnitzel. He said it was delicious. I had the appetizer cabbage rolls and their version of French onion soup. Both were delicious We didn’t leave a crumb!
Rhinelander fondue is a favorite and fabulous for sharing. Great service and tasty food with German flair
Friendly staff and great food
Is always very good. A little pricey, but a decent value. It is a fun german "experience" restaurant, and for a chain is pretty high quality.
Service is always prompt and polite. The pesto fondue is amazing, and yummy cocktails too.
It was valentines day so I assume it was noisier than usual. However the duck was tough and they ran out of lemon mousse so that was disappointing. The woman checking people in was not very pleasant, the wait was long despite having a reservation & she didn't not thank us as we left however, our sitter and waitress were both very friendly. The prime rib, brussel sprouts & red cabbage were very good. I'll give them another shot but I would expect they would be prepared for special occasions & not have less quality as a result- certainly greeting the guests should be easy to do .
One of my partner and I’s favorite restaurants! We get the chicken Alfredo spatzel and the pretzel fondue to start - never disappoints! Our waitresses are always on top of drinks, nice, and attentive.
It seems that the portions aren't as big and the prices are still the same. Also my husband ordered the Pork and he said that it was thinner and more fatter then the last time he had this dish.
Our server, Adrian was great. The food was different but I love trying new dishes. My date and had fun and enjoyed our time there. Thank you!
The food was good as always! Wonderful wait staff
Roasted Pork is very good with the tangy cabbage. Non alcohol bear Beck goes well with the dish.
Delicious German food and good service. Good beer, schnitzel, duck, sausages, German potato salad, with a European chalet environment. We really like Gustav's and will return.
Great food and service even though they were packed
Duck was great.
Potato pancakes were disappointing...a little gummy. the red cabbage was mediocre.
fondue was too thick and there should be a choice of sausages. I prefer the weisswurst but had to purchase them separately as an addition to the standard fondue. the sausages were delicious.
Enjoyed an excellent XEve dinner with family and friends. Excellent service, as usual!
Had a really nice dinner on Christmas Eve. The ambiance was cozy, the waiter was very nice and fun, and the Bavarian meatballs and turkey dinner was perfect!
Our waitress was excellent
Good solid dinner for a regular evening eating out. Service was a bit slow and my drink came when we had nearly finished eating. I had asked for mashed potatoes instead of potato salad, which the server said was fine, but when my meal arrived it had potato salad. Didn’t get a chance to have it corrected because the server never returned to ask if everything was ok or if we needed anything.
Great food! Good service, and enjoyed our experience.
Fantastic food and service. Great employees.
The food is delicious. Love the pretzel and cheese fondue. My husband said the French dip was the best he ever had. Service was great too! We will be back!
Disappointing menu selections, especially notable was the absence of several german beers
They ran an hour behind with their reservations, so crowded and very over booked. They were out of so many things... and I’m allergic to turkey, and that’s why I chose because they had other things listed.... very disappointed
They overbooked the restaurant, didn't get a table for more than an hour and half after reservation and they began running out of menu items.
We had to wait @ least 45 minutes even though we had a 5:15 reservation.
Once we were seated the waitress was there right away and took our drink order. We got that really quick. We order fondue and got that at a reasonable amount of time.
We place our dinner order at the same time as we ordered the fondue and it probably took about 1 hour before we got our food. The prime rib that I order was very tough and full of gristle. It was one of the worst prime rib that I have ever ordered. My wife ordered the pork loin and it was very dry and she could hardly eat.
There was a large table next to us with 3 kids running around with no control. The parents or nobody that work there did anything about. This is a safety issue beside being annoying.
Overall it was a lousy meal and I feel that restaurant was out of control and over their heads.
It took over 35 minutes to get seated after our 4:45 PM reservations and then it took 1 hour and 5 minutes to get the dinner after we ordered. They didn't offer the regular menu which was a big disappointment, that's why we picked Gustav's. A server told me they only found out about the special menu when they got to work that morning. This server also stated it was very frustrating because of all the complaints they were getting from the customers and they would have rather been home with their own family for Thanksgivings. When the meal finally showed up only parts of the dinner were hot and I surely was not going to send it back. I actually sent a Gustav's a complaint while I was at the restaurant thru their web site. The dinner plate had 7 different things on it so you only got a little taste of some of the items. The little amount of mashed potatoes that were on the plate were cold and I think the one item was stuffing but not much to really taste. The only thing I enjoyed was the sausage all the rest wasn't worth it which I'll include a picture of the plate if I can. We have been to Gustav's a lot over the years but this did it for me, I doubt if we'll go back. If they wanted to offer a Turkey dinner that's fine but they should keep the regular menu as well. We heard with our own ears several people complaining just as we did. Overpriced for what you got on the plate.
I would advice NOT to go for Thanksgiving. Reservations we're on average 30 minutes behind. Took over an hour to get our food after seated. We were seated at a make shift table that the when cars drove up blinded the person facing the window. The room was so loud we couldn't hardly hear each other talking. The staff was catering to larger groups and leaving the smaller groups for last. We had a group of 12 next to us and the wait staff would help that table 2 - 3 times before the others. Normally haven't had any problems in the past, however, this time was horrible. The wait staff told us that they booked 1000 reservations for thanksgiving. I think this was a mistake on their part.
Not for a holiday or other busy day. Food was good as usual, but incredibly slow service. Took2 hours for party of two to get our meal served and eaten.
Gustav’s was swamped for Thanksgiving and the reserved seating was about a half-hour behind, but it was worth it. The food was tastier than I expected, especially the dressing and Brussels sprouts. And the hosts and wait staff were all keeping their cool, making it a relaxing experience overall.
This was the second time that we went to Gustav's for Thanksgiving. It was very good, maybe too much food, but very good. We will be back next year. Thank you.
While we appreciated the large table and the good food, the noise level detracted from our communicating with each other and even with maximum enjoyment of the food.
It was Thanksgiving day and they were extremely busy so the food was wonderful everything was great the service wasn’t quite as high as usual but it was still excellent.
Thanksgiving dinner was amazing! The staff was great. Only issue we had was getting our ticket and the multiple conversations the staff had next to our table due to being next to pay station. Would have liked to have paid and got out in the time it took for them to figure out their breaks.
If you like German food you will like this restaurant. The food was delicious and authentic - we had sausages, duck, soup, German potato salad, sauerkraut (slightly modified - the addition of pineapple takes a bit of the bite out and gives it a nice mellow flavor), red cabbage. We also enjoyed some German beer on tap. The German decor was very pleasant, and the service was attentive. We will go back.
The food was very delicious but kind of pricey! The service was great!
We ate here with a toddler and a newborn and has a good experience. The duck and sauerbraten were excellent. The cheese fondue was not a traditional cheese fondue; more like a cheese sauce which was disappointing. The desserts were good. Amazing selection of beers. The servers were excellent.
Love this place! Great food and good value. Love the traditional Wiener Schnitzel. Blackberry Cider is very good. Service is fantastic thanks to Claudia!
Birthday dinner very dark and noisy food was good
The food and beer is good and different so for that it’s worth trying, HOWEVER, the service is not good. Although the staff is friendly they never bring water or anything requested quickly. Often times we are abandoned with no means of requesting anything additional. The food always arrives cold.
