Gus’s has always been excellent handling reservations! We eat there before the movies and have relied on them to be on time. Management has changed and there has been a turnover with their staff so this time they did not come through and we were late to our movie. We arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation and were taken late. I visited the counter twice and was told after being there 30 minutes that they had to take the walk ins that were there before me. I was then offered a table outside.. We ended up being seated at a high table with stools and no backrests. It was not the busiest night so definitely surprising. I honestly can’t complain. I’ve been spoiled by them since they’ve opened but things have obviously changed. They made it up to me on the backside with excellent service by our waitress (as always) and a complimentary appetizer. This will not affect me coming back because we really enjoy going there multiple times per month, but I wanted to communicate the change in service so management can address. Stay awesome Gus’s.

The beginning of our experience was HORRENDOUS.

Had a reservation for outdoor seating for 4:45pm. Arrived at restaurant around 4:30 to check in and the hostess informed me that they had us planned for indoor dining, even though the reservation was clearly for outdoor seating. When I questioned her about this, she told me “well, we try our best and mashed no guarantees.”

My mother-in-law, who arrived at the restaurant a few minutes before us (but didn’t check in) saw the staff seat a group the same size as us (6-7 people) outdoors at a table that was clearly meant for us.

After informing them that this was not acceptable and that if we cannot dine outdoors, we cannot dine there (there are medical reasons for this that I will not share in a public forum), we were told a few minutes later that they figured it all out and we’d be able to dine outdoors after all , just please wait a few minutes for us to prepare the table.

Approximately 40 minutes after our reservation time, they were finally ready for us.

Once we were finally seated, the service and food were both good. We enjoyed our meal.

But I was so turned off by the horrible service in there being and the complete lack of interest by the restaurant to do right by us, just making us wait forever and acting like they did me some sort of favor by simply honoring the reservation I made (40 minutes late). Nobody ever apologized to us, not even offer any sort of explanation for why we were treated the way we were. It was all pretty appalling.

I’m not sure is ever return. It’s hard to enjoy a meal after being mistreated the way we were and I’m not inclined to put my family through that again.

We ordered fried chicken and country steak. Both were very dry. Also orders onion rings and was disappointed bec we didn’t see or taste any onions in it. I hope this helps

I really wanted to like this place. My sausage plate arrived raw. The server apologized and they did heat it up in the microwave but I had to wait an extra 15 - 20 minutes after the others at the table were served their food. The service overall was “meh.” My husband’s ribs were dry. The cornbread was dry and tasted old. I won’t be going back.

I found the music loud not energetic. Service was great. The deviled eggs and corn bread were great. My husband enjoyed the pulled pork tostado. The St. Louis ribs were not my favorite ribs that I have had. I would come back to try the burgers which looked good. I was also not thrilled with the sides (I asked if the beans were really sweet, I was told they were but they were not (I sent them back), the mac and cheese was boring and the grits were way too thin for grits. But I hear your sweet potato fries are delicious. So not thrilled with my dinner but will try again.

We had the picnic platter and peppercorn brisket along with cornbread. It was good overall but I think portions are slightly on small side. Our server, Robby, was terrific so it balanced it out.

We always enjoy Gus's BBQ for lunch. I had shrimp and grits and my wife a BBQ Chicken sandwich, both were very tasty. The service was very good and it was a nice casual lunch.

The food and service was great. The catfish and chips and burger were great. I wasn’t too crazy about the chicken fried steak. I should have ordered some BBQ since it’s a BBQ joint. The apps pulled pork nachos and cornbread were good. Good experience overall

Too loud, we had 3 grandkids and couldn’t even hear them to talk. Food OK, kids grill cheese overdone, my husband had pork rib sandwich said just ok. I had pull pork and didn’t notice that the sauce was on the table until almost done. I had an Old Fashion good but no dark cherry.

I LOVE Gus's and this was our first time at the Porter Ranch location. Everything was great until we paid and then everyone ignored us. I went to the bar to get water glasses refilled and the bartender ignored me while she chitchatted with some other customers. I had to ask for a manager. Giving customers plenty of water after their beers and before driving home is simply smart.

Still love Gus's. Come to Naples FL so we can go every week.

The server was incredibly slow. We waited for about 10-15 minutes until the server ever came to our table for our drink order. My daughter never got a fork and after 15 minutes had to go ask the hostess for one so she could eat her lukewarm food. No drink refill for my daughter. Took forever to get out check and she stood there watching us as we left a tip and felt pressured to leave her more than she deserved. Towards the end of our meal the restaurant wasn’t even busy anymore as it was 9:30 on a Sunday night. Normally we are pretty fast diners and are out of there within 45 minutes. This night we were left looking around the restaurant for our server MANY TIMES. She literally disappeared and wasn’t seen one time for like 30 minutes. We were in the restaurant for 1 1/2 hours and I was left feeling antsy and anxious to get out of there. We’ve had this server before and she was slow before but not this ridiculously slow. We left thinking “you know for below sub par service, and the price of the food, it isn’t worth it.” We will go to our favorite hole in the wall in the valley and pick up some bbq from now on.

Upon entering the restaurant, my wife and I were told we had to pull our shirts up over our faces in order to be seated outside. I expressed my displeasure about this discriminatory treatment and informed the "hostess" that what she was requiring was illegal. I demanded to speak to the manager who was definitely pleasant but quite uniformed. She seated us WITHOUT my wife and I pulling our shirts up over our faces. I explained the reality and the gravity of the situation and she finally admitted that this is simply how they were told by "corporate" to treat their customers. So the fact that whatever corporation owns Gus's is instructing their employees to discriminate against their customers based on what they are or are not wearing leads me to never go there again.

For a barbecue place they really do have a limited menu. No steaks, no beef ribs. I had eaten there twice before and didn’t like it but my friend did and it was her birthday. I had the brick flattened chicken and it was very good. However It was so noisy in there I could barely hear my friend across the table.

You need to better coordinate your Open Table availability with the restaurant. We made an early 5:45 reservation when our preferred time of 6:30 was full. When we got there, the restaurant was a quarter full and stay so until 6:30. Second, the food was overall good but the brick chicken was full of fat and grizzle. Our server was excellent. She brought us a lovely dessert when we mentioned the chicken.

We met with friends, who’ve never been and made sure to make reservations days ahead.
Anytime after 5pm is busy and wait time is long.
In making my reservation ahead of time, I included in notes that I wanted a booth, and if Kelly was working wanted to sit in her area.
Kelly is the BEST!!! She totally rocks every food and drink recommendations she has made has been great!
One other individual there who we enjoyed sitting in his area is Manny. No surprise that he is now manager.
Congratulations Manny!!! Well deserved. The reason we go there because of them.

I love their food and recommend their baby back ribs, brisket, and sausage entrees. On our last visit, the service was very good and everything we needed was promptly taken care of by friendly servers. I would say this is one of the best BBQ places in the San Fernando Valley and probably in LA in general.

This was my third time dining at Gus’s. Every time has been a great experience. Seating is spread for Covid safety and there is both indoor and patio dining options.
The food is consistently delicious. The service has been great.
There is a nice bar and a choices on the menu for all types of diners.
I will go to Gus’s again and recommend others try this restaurant.
