Gurney's Newport Resort - The Lounge & Fire Pit
We had a reservation. here for almost a month. There was no ability to specify indoor or outdoor seating in our reservation. We called ahead and were told our reservation was guaranteed outside, when we arrived they told us they could not seat us outside and we had our puppy with us. They ended up arranging us inside but it was stuffed in a corner and we weren't able to let the dog sit on our lap. Additionally, it is COVID and we didn't feel comfortable eating indoors. The host was rude and said there was nothing she could do to help.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! HORRIBLE SERVICE - do NOT go here. I made a reservation for the fire pits a month in advance. They claimed we did not request a fire pit specifically so we could not sit there, even though 3 were wide open. The people we dealt with were EXTREMELY rude, we were never treated like that before in our lives.
ZERO STARS - disgusting service.
Had made a reservation back in August for this past Friday evening, the 23rd. When I had made the reservation it stated that all reservations were for outside. Great, that’s what I wanted. Reservation was for 8:30pm, checked in at about 8:15pm and were told we could be seated right away. We were brought to an indoor table. I had explained to the hostess that when we booked (2 months ago!) it stated that all reservations were for outside. She told me that they only seat outside upon request. What?? So we were told that we had to wait for an outdoor table. We didn’t end up getting seated until 9:15pm. They had explained that it was their first day of doing indoor dining. Their system was completely messed up. They should’ve contacted everyone that had made a reservation when their was a very specific note saying all reservations were for outdoors. Completely frustrated by the situation, wasted a lot of time for a terrible experience. Will not be visiting here again in the future.
Great food! Amazing location and our server was great! Followed Covid guidelines.
Very disappointing. Went there and was ignored for 30+ minutes after receiving a drink. It was not busy at the time so didn’t understand that. Didn’t order food, had to go find server to ask for the check. Don’t recommend if you aren’t staying at the hotel.
The hostess must have been having a bad day because she was crabby.
Service was slow.
The weather wasn't great, so we had to sit inside which was a disappointment, but that just means we'll have to be back :) We had the sweet chili calamari and tuna poke and cocktails, which were delicious (a little pricey, but that was to be expected)
There was one poor waiter who covered the whole lounge & was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. We were not acknowledged for the first 45 mins we sat, and finally we had to let a bus boy (who ran away) AND the hosts know (somehow there were 4 standing around at any given point doing nothing to help). As tables that had been sat down after us were served 1st and 2nd rounds of cocktails, we finally got a drink at the 1 hour mark. 1 of the 4 hostesses must have gotten bored enough to filter water from the harbor herself to bring us another 20 mins after that. Though it was no fault of his own, he apologized profusely everytime he served us. It was awful to see him working so hard with poor effort by his team members. Expected better from a Gurney’s.
The ambiance is amazing. Gorgeous atmosphere, service great BUT be prepared to spend $$$$ 18$ for a glass of average wine 72$ for the bottle. Limited menu also pricey BUT it’s a great night out and everyone needs to do this at least once! Sitting by the fire pit is sooooo fabulous
Service was very poor. You will not be sitting by a fire pit if you are a group of two. We were seated alone inside away from the fire pits. Cocktails on the menu were really bad, We tried 3 different ones and they all were terrible. Wouldn’t suggest spending that type of money for the experience we had.
Great outdoor space with cozy fire pits. We enjoyed the sunset and waterfront setting. Food and drinks were delicious. Staff was very accommodating and we didn’t feel rushed. Would go back here again the next time we visit Newport.
This is tough to write, because this was our go-to restaurant in Newport, being locals. The summer menu is totally different from what is now offered, and yet it wasn't listed online. We expected our hummus plates, our cruditie, and all we had was a very expensive full menu. If you want to graze, go elsewhere. They are trying to go like Scarpetta's, the Italian restaurant affiliated with The Gurney. We didn't come for that.
All the firepits were taken, even though we had a reservation, so we bundled up on the upper deck, ate our burgers (excellent) and sadly looked at each other and said, "well, see you next Summer....." A real disappointment to end our season in Newport. List the change of the menu online please. Don't keep the Summer menu online.......
We had a disappointing night. Oh well..... (work on the service as well.)
Everything was great from the weather to the service and especially the food. My only thing was we were told our visit was limited to 1.5 hours and even when our time was up there didn't see to be anyone waiting for our table. We would have enjoyed a bit longer enjoying the view.
We reserved for late night cocktails and apps. The ambiance is superb! The drinks were great and the oysters were fresh & tasty!
Fabulous! Perfect atmosphere!
I went here for a late dinner and immediately upon arrival one gets to appreciate how beautiful the fire-side tables are. For such an expensive looking restaurant, the food is actually very fairly priced which is refreshing. The service was okay and I was disappointed to see that most of the food that appeared online wasn’t available to order. Overall the food was pretty satisfying, I got the burger and the cheeses & meats plate which were okay, and a chocolate cake which was excellent.
Food and location were good. Hostess and service was extremely disappointing for a “5 star property”.
Great until scarpetta put meat in our table bread and didn’t tell us. We’re vegetarian.
Great vibe, for a spot you go to for views and ambience food was good!
Menu was uninspiring. Food was mediocre. And somehow, an appetizer, salad, burger, and glass of wine was $100. Definitely not worth it.
Other than Chamar the staff was horrendous. Ambiance was great and the food was actually delicious but they need to get their act together.
We booked a fire pit for a Friday evening but when we arrived we were told they were not providing service at the fire pit that night, and that we would have to sit inside to be served.
This was very disappointing, and especially during COVID guests should be informed in advance if the outdoor seating they booked will not be available.
Our server was clearly overworked and overwhelmed so service was pretty slow, and while the food and drinks were good, they were overpriced.
Celebrating engagement and birthday. Staff was so accommodating - we even came back after dinner for drinks by the fire pit!
We spent the first night of our mini moon here and had a great experience, great food, great ambiance.
Great food and awesome atmosphere ❣️
Delightful! Good food, great service, and a lovely view. The Lounge and Fire Pit offers a wonderful and relaxing outdoor dining experience.
Hostess was very rude
I booked this several weeks ago as a special occasion and asked to be seated with a view . She outlined how busy they were , had a attitude , and told me before we even sat down that we needed to leave in 90 minutes . She outlined our fire tables could not be lit or turned on yet several others were . For an expensive as you are I would expect nicer employees
I don’t return due to the service
Absolutely beautiful! Amazing staff. We’ll be coming back for sure!!
Great experience
Food and drinks were good. Waitress was nice and personable but not very attentive. We had to keep flagging her down.
Excellent venue, views, drinks, and food. However, the menu posted to the website for the fire pit lounge was not the same as what was available. Only starters, salads and sandwiches.
There is only a fire pit if you have a party of 4 or more. They don’t tell you this. Despite the fact that fire pits were open when we arrived and for the duration our or time there; they refused (rudely) to let us have one. The drinks were awful and there were ants all over the table.
Beautiful place, great service. We took a sit outside and it was sunny, but no available umbrellas. We told it’s ok, because we really wanted to try that place , but in 5 minutes they brought umbrella from somewhere and put it so we would be in the shade. The view is very nice, food is delicious and not too pricey for a place like that. Will define come again
Of all our meals at Gurney's Newport, this one was the best and it was due to our attentive server Jen. Her recommendations were spot on. The food was good. Her service the right mix of professionalism and good old fashioned glad to see ya,
Amazing place! The hotel is beautiful, it has Great views and delicious food. It is very laid back and casual. We had the best clam Chauder and lobster rolls in new port (and we tried many!). We had lunch, but it looks like an amazing place to have dinner too. Definitely a must in New Port!!
Beautiful outdoor space, best views of the bay.
Very cozy, nice music and good service.
Drinks were average, but in general great experience.
Nice evening spot, however if we weren’t at a fire table it wouldn’t have been as nice. Chicken sandwich was as big as my head!
Enjoy the view and ambiance but service left much to be desired. Might only return for beer/wine.
Beautiful ambiance, very busy so service was a little slow. Didn’t mind because we were enjoying the view and ambiance. Try and secure a reservation for sunset or after 9:30. Didn’t have dinner but appetizers were great.
I went to Gurney's for lunch during my bachelorette party weekend. I had a wonderful time. Great view, atmosphere, and food. We got a nice shady spot and were able to relax after a busy day of touring the Newport Mansions. Just what our group needed. We even got a mocktails for the non-drinkers and a Beyond burger for me (a vegetarian). We had a wonderful time and we'd definitely go again!
