Gunther & Co.
Great food and great ambiance on the patio! A little pricey but as long as you know that going in, it’s worth it.
Second visit to Gunther and was just as good as the first. Great service and food and half price bottle night too! Insider tip: sit at the kitchen bar and enjoy the show while you dine!
Food was delicious! I loved the duck spring rolls and the cold watermelon soup! My husband did the oyster taster and he really enjoyed trying the different types of oysters. My husband did have a mishap with one drink order, but he told the waiter and they replaced it with a much better drink--apparently the ice was "old" so they changed it up. Our entree's were both awesome--pork chop and scallops...my husband was disappointed in the wine recommendation he recieved from the waiter, but otherwise loved his meal. We also recieved a really nice baked Alaskan dessert compliments of the chef for our anniversary and it was very very good. We opted to try a scoop of the Mexican chocolate ice cream, which the waiter said had a hint of spice--but it was so spicy I could barely taste any chocolate, and was not too thrilled about it. Our waiter was very knowledgable but I think he was a bit too pushy--we were one of 4 tables so the place was not packed by any means (630pm on a Tuesday)--and he watched us like hawks and checked on us a bit too much...he even told us that if we did not order entrees soon it would take 25 minutes for them to come out...we were in no rush so we didn't care, but he seemed overly concerned with it. When we did order the food, it came out like 10-15 mins later, no problems! overall, we enjoyed our meal and apps and I would try it again!
Food was great and innovative preparations, even though it was Sunday evening. We were unaware that the menu changes to a Supper Menu. There were some excellent specials on that menu! Great selection of icy cold, fresh oysters!
It was annoying, on a Sunday evening, that a business meeting was going on in the open space restaurant. The noise carried throughout the dining area. We were happy that the business group had ordered the duck spring rolls and we were able to get a few of the leftover orders, which were not on the Special Supper Menu.
This was my second time to Gunthers for brunch, I usually just go for dinner/bar snacks and the awesome cocktails (I had the World Ends with You... very tasty and refreshing). Had a group of friends double in size for brunch and needed a restaurant that could accommodate up to 10 ppl. Immediately though of Gunthers for the size and different seating options (indoor and outdoor, first and second level). It was perfect! We ended up sitting inside since it was too sunny outside, but we were right near the door, so lots of natural light, just like being outside. Of course the menu was so yummy, everyone could find something that was both intriguing and familiar. I got the brunch burger and added avocado, soooo yummy! The biscuits are literally the best I have ever had, so had to get one of those, and the blond chocolate trifle was amazing. Love that the menu is interesting but still accessible and very tasty. Our entire group loved it, it was quiet for brunch, maybe because we came a little later, but it was perfect since we were a large group who hadn't seen each other in over 2 years! Our server was awesome, totally rolled with all of the requests that we had, I am sure we were a handful. He was great, so professional and friendly, and even had the checks already split by seat number (amazing!! usually it is so hard to split with a large group and of course no one ever thinks about that until the bill comes! I have never had an easier time paying!) The hostess was so nice and accommodating as we were back and forth about our party size and indoor/outdoor. Truly exceptional hospitality, I know we probably looked like the most disorganized group of people. Everyone was so impressed with my recommendation to go there, and just knew from past experiences that it was the right choice for our indecisive group. Many of our group commented on how they would come back. Wonderful hospitality, level of service, and truly inspired menu. Can't wait to come back!
I love this place and frequent it regularly. Great food, great drinks!
Fantastic restaurant. Server was very knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed our time.
Always great.... I went back to the very first entree I had the first time I visited ... the smoked duck, ... and it was just as awesome tender, flavorful and very light
Our party sat on the patio as it was an unusually cooler less humid July evening. The ambiance was fabulous. Our server was a bit awkward albeit attentive. The ravioli portion was extremely small even though it was a small plate. Burratta was excellent however it was served by itself without any cracker or bread. Hangar steak was good and a good size portion. Chicken entree was fair. Shrimp and grits was also very good.
Always a good choice. The food is very imaginative always excellent. Staff are well trained and knowledgeable about the menu. Great space, and (!) free parking. One thing: my first two choices of bourbon from the list were out of stock.
We were seated only after the hostess finished her phone call with a call in diner attempting to order a meal. The service was spotty which I attribute to potentially being understaffed due to a holiday week (July 4 week). We were there on July 3. The menu was interesting and the preparation and presentation were outstanding. There were some annoying small issues. The McCallan scotch I ordered was not available and a 2nd server needed to take a substitute order. The Spinach & Strawberry salad was missing the strawberry's. A side order of berries eventually arrived after 2 requests to 2 different servers. The servers recommendations were exceptional. The evening specials were outstanding. The ice tea I ordered arrived halfway thru the main course. The servers were doing their best to keep things together and did apologize about the missteps. I would return as the food was tasty and inspired, however I would hope that the service issue can be corrected. Its a great eatery, in a historic building and has a lot to offer. Yes, I would recommend- even with the service short comings.
Gunther is a very consistent and delicious restaurant. It’s great for everyday and equally so for special occasions.
Gunther & Company is a great, local place in Canton. It's definitely my go to pick for business lunches and weekend fun. The food is amazing and fresh. The atmosphere is perfect blend of contemporary and comfortable. We had the flatbread and it was to die for along with fried oysters taco and fresh Arnold palmers. You can't go wrong picking this place for any occasion.
Excellent service for our neighborhood happy hour! Food & drinks were excellent. A little pricey but great quality and service and ambience.
A friend recommended Gunthers. We tried it on a Sunday evening. Seems they do a big brunch on Sunday and in the evening it was quiet. All staff works hard to please the customers. Chris (a manager?) and Patrick our waiter were aiming to please. Food: we enjoyed the dumpling appetizer, filled with mix of chicken and shrimp. Very tasty.
My wife enjoyed a salad topped with both chicken and shrimp. I had a burger and fries. Good quality meat in burger, cooked medium as I requested. The fries that come with it are quite good as well. My wife enjoyed a piece of Baked Alaska, provided by Gunther's for her birthday. Nice touch!
We'll return during a "regular" night to experience the usual menu. Drinks: we each had a martini...the vodkas and gins we prefer weren't available and since these are usual bar fare, that was disappointing, since Gunther's has a lovely and large bar. (No Ketel One vodka, No Stoli O vodka, no Tanquerray gin?) So we had our drinks made with Grey Goose. Not a big deal, but...
Have been to Gunther & Co, a half dozen times. Really enjoy the ambiance and the food is generally excellent. I still complain about the small liquor pours. I'd rather pay a couple dollars more and get a larger pour. We said something to the waitress and she came back saying that there was nothing she could do about it.
Great place away from the busy Canton square. Recommend the hanger steak and the variety oysters.
Drink on tap was potent and delish but glad it was potent because I didn't want to order more. It was small and on pricey side.
Burrata salad...just ok. It may have had 10 small pieces of romaine on entire plate! Dressing was tasty. Too bad there was miniscule romaine.
Scallops & risotto: excellent. Scallops perfectly cooked and browned. Risotto scrumptious. Just the right consistency, not glue-like.
Chose 3 ice creams for dessert. The pineapple-coconut was flavorful & refreshing. The ripe mango sure was tart!! The spicy chocolate was a taste bud surprise!! The burn at the end didn't linger too long. The impact teased my taste buds!
Service with Ross was attentive, well timed and pleasant.
Breads served were delicious. Oh so good and chewy!
Great service and atmosphere !
Awesome server, ambiance, and food!
This place was amazing!! Me and my girlfriend went for our 3 year anniversary!
Great server good food and a great atmosphere
A winner !!
Third time to Gunther's and everything was great as usual. We were a group of 6 and everyone enjoyed their meal. Food and service were excellent and the atmosphere is unique. I will keep going back.
The French fries were not hot and needed salt. Service was somewhat spotty.
Great ambiance. But our waiter was not very good describing the food. My salad was never ordered. And I would have ordered desert if he had described it better.
Always a fun evening. A no pressure situation, interesting menu and kind service. Cocktails always fun. The space, playing and energy make for a very pleasant meal.
I'll start by saying we very much enjoyed the food at Gunther & Co. The food was delicious, flavorful, and well-prepared. However, we found the service to be sub-par and a bit off-putting.
We were the first to arrive in our party and they let us know we could wait at the bar for the rest of our group, which we did. When other members arrived, we let the hostess know that we were assembled and ready to be seated. We were informed that someone would help us soon and we stood awkwardly, watching other tables being sat ahead of us as the hostess walked past refusing to make eye-contact. We approached the hostess a 2nd time and were again told someone would be with us soon. Finally after several minutes of awkward lurking, we were sat at our table. I should mention that the restaurant was busy, but not crazily so and the two hostesses should have been able to capable manage the flow of guests.
That wasn't the end of the strange service. Unfortunately, the server's pace was out of sync with the entire meal (i.e. only offered a beverage after meals arrived, seemed annoyed that people wanted to switch to wine with their main entrees, etc.). Despite seemingly having a lot of bar staff, drinks were very slow to arrive and inconsistently sized. The server had no knowledge of the liquor available at the bar and even went to so far as to argue with one of our guests about what was available (had just ordered it while we were in that awkward holding pattern to be seated, so he knew what was on offer). Throughout the night we felt like an inconvenience and after thought to him.
My overall impression is that I would return for the food, but the service just doesn't match.
We celebrated two birthdays. The oyster tasting, fried green tomatoes, duck, hanger steak, and fish were all fantastic. Loved the citrus olive oil cake dessert along with the Baked Alaska bday surprises.
Unfortunately the wood-burning oven was broken which impacted our menu decisions, but we still had plenty of great options. Our waiter was very personable despite several dropped plates (luckily not ours!). Great vibe at Gunters
Love eating here. It’s consistently great, the food, the cocktails, the service. Everything about it is on point every time we come.
Perfect outdoor weather last Saturday with great food and good friends. Service outstanding. Plenty of parking, unlike some in Canton.
Food was excellent. Started with sausage and shrimp appetizer with hummus and flatbread. Hanger Steak and Pork Chop were absolutely delicious, well seasoned, great portion. Chocolate pavé for dessert rounded up the perfect dining experience. Service was great. Attentive and made great suggestions
Fantastic place. Service was superb and the experience was so comfortable.
Food and service were actually very good, but we waited well over an hour from ordering to receiving our dinner. Only explanation was “the kitchen was slow tonight”. Unfortunately, this long of a wait adversely affected the dining experience.
Great food, great atmosphere, slow from the kitchen, tense servers because of it….food was worth the wait.
Top notch! Our waiter was very attentive- great presentation of the menu and special entrees. Checked on us many times and filled our water. Entrees all came out at the same time. Food was fresh and crafted with attention to detail. Lobster cooked to perfection - gently seasoned with butter. Frites were a bit salty but cooked to perfection. My fave place now in bmore!
We returned to Gunther & Co. for a birthday dinner after being impressed by our initial visits. As always, the atmosphere is nicely appointed and the servers friendly. The drinks were petite but spot-on. The Au fish app was well-seasoned but the chilled mushroom soup was a virtually inedible blend of heavy cream and bland mushrooms. My partner asked if she could order the fish special done medium and the server responded with a gratuitous lecture about the chef's pretensions and called her preference for fish cooked medium "unappetizing." Another question about whether the Thai hot pot could be made without the mussels prompted lecture #2. (Apparently, the chef's propensity for attention to detail didn't apply to the soup!) After my girlfriend politely ordered the dish anyway and said she would simply eat around the shellfish, the server brought her a dish for the shells---obliviously failing to register our general displeasure or the uneaten soup. By that time we couldn't wait to leave. Our entrees were good, but not great. The server did bring a birthday dessert on the house, which we appreciated. But this was a disappointment overall. Baltimore has so few restaurants that merit a trip for a special occasion, so it is truly unfortunate when a relatively new place like this underperforms with respect to the cuisine and gives condescending customer service--however unintentional it may have been. If the chef has a policy, fine. Just say that and move on. But at $200+ for 2 people, I am not paying for a lecture from someone who knows far less about gastronomy than I, nor do I expect to have to eat somewhere else shortly afterward because too much of the food was...what is the new pejorative word we learned?...oh yes, 'unappetizing.' It would be great if G&Co. could be a reliable destination for business dinners and celebrations for when the trek to DC is impractical. Here's hoping this was an isolated downturn in an otherwise upward trajectory.
We had an amazing experience (as always) at Gunther. Our server, Demetria, was knowledgeable, attentive, and picked up on the fact that it was a special occasion for us and presented us with a nice surprise at the end of our meal!! We were so grateful.
Oh- and the food. Beyond drool worthy! The beef tartare and wood fired airline chicken are fantastic and the fries are salty malty deliciousness. No bad things to say about this place!!
We love this place! What a unique use of an historical City space! Food is delectable, service is first class and the outdoor patio is a plus!!!
Come here quite often before theatre events, they are always mindful of our time but service is still superb!
Fighting the traffic into Canton during rush hour but worth it. Interesting and mostly good food. Pricey. Attractive repurposing of the brewery site.
