Good food. Some really good. Told as sat down 2 hours for meal- fair enough. 2 minutes after paying (at 1.5hrs) asked if we could hurry up as new customers waiting, 4 minutes later (while putting coat on) asked again to please leave as new customers waiting. Couldn’t have been made to feel more unwelcome.

Good to at least give it a go. Staff were very pleasant but the service was a little bit cluncky. The food portion were good especially the meats. They suggested three per person, we ordered seven for the two of us and it was bordering too much. Nice flavours and good use of spices. Very tasty, though one or two of the dishes were questionable. The Aloo Chaat was one of their best sellers (so they said!) and we thought it was too sweet. Atmosphere was good on a Wednesday night. It was busy.

It was a fun evening and we expected a lot as we’d read reviews which were great. We were not disappointed- it was fantastic! Most delicious food and I would thoroughly recommend!

The food was as excellent as I have ever had it, everything was perfectly cooked, delicious and the portions were excellent for the Gunpowder feast menu.
Service was a little lacking, friendly but a bit indifferent, and I would have preferred it if dishes, especially in the first round of serving, didn’t come out in such quick succession.
The restaurant was the right level of busy and the toilets were nice and clean - always a good thing!

Overall a great night and a delicious meal, my friends were very impressed. Gunpowder remains an excellent proposition for excellent and innovative Indian food!

Great food. Indian Tapas style, so innovative concept too.
Only complaint and that’s why I’ve given 4 stars, is the rice was very poor quality, tasteless and dry.

Great pre-theatre spot if you are going to The Bridge. Small plates mean that the service is quick and we enjoyed everything we tried.

Sat outside with a pleasant view of Tower Bridge. Nice quiet spot but buzzier inside if that's what you prefer. Food was excellent, particularly the lamb chops and the scotch egg.

Service was really bad here. From the first minute they were rushing to get us out of the place, even though we had two hours for our reservation.

The “manager” was always running around and if you manage to stop him to order one thing he’d run away without letting you finish your order.

Nearly all the food came at the same time after we ordered (from oysters to starters to main) so we had like 10 dishes on the table with 1.5 hours to go on our reservations, people rushing around and food getting cold.

We got told that our time was up in a fairly rude way at the end too.

The food was actually decent, but given the service we probably wouldn’t be coming back

Better than average.
A couple of dishes disappointed and they were the over cooked duck leg and the beef which was a bit dry.

On the other hand everything else was great and the desserts fantastic.

Restaurant in a nice area. Staff were pleasant. Really enjoyed our food but felt a bit rushed. As a table of 2 you are only allocated 1 hour and 15 minutes. Although this gave you plenty of time to eat it was because our food was served within minutes of ordering. It felt like fast food without a fast food price tag.

The menu is interesting, but you definitely need guidance. We have been ordering sharing plates and ended up with 3 meals with similar tasting sauce, which is a shame. The staff couldn't explain where the oysters were from and we were asked to leave asap once were approaching to the 2hr limit. It's a shame as with the right guidance overall experience could have been much better.

Even when I expressed reluctance the server was insistent that I should order their “best items” - all of which were dripping with sugar, heavy on meat, and starch without a single proper vegetable. Might have been good for a child but can’t recommend for an adult. Easily the worst Indian meal I’ve had in Britain.

The pros: food was delicious and the service was good.

The cons: they really pack you in. It feels like you're sharing tables with those next to you. Also, food started coming out like 2 minutes after we ordered it. We ordered quite a bit and because it all comes out so quickly you feel like you need to eat it quickly in order to have it while it's still hot. This meant that we were out of there 40mins after we arrived so it was a fairly short date night.

The restaurant facade was all shiny glass and fitted in perfectly with the decor of the surrounding offices and businesses. Inside it was very modern in a warehousey kind of way. The toilets were interesting - male and female cubicles with a communal washing area.

The menu is small and did seem to be in sections despite the waitress advising us that it wasn’t set out in courses. We couldn’t quite understand the pricing though as they had a saag with tandoori paneer in the middle for £12 which was quite a lot compared to the other dishes. The waitress told us that she thought it was because it contained expensive ingredients. Hmm. I’ve just looked and you can get a packet of paneer from Sainsbury’s for £1.50 and even a Santa size sack of spinach (and to be fair it does go down to about a teaspoonful whatever amount you start cooking) could not justify the price. So we haughtily omitted ordering that and kicked off with some very lovely artichoke hearts in red pepper masala, aloo chat, egg curry masala and rice. It was all great but we did note and miss the lack of bread and dall on the menu. After that Amanda went off for “a wee and to look at other people’s food” and I re-studied the menu. We decided to stop drinking as £5.50 for a small bottle of beer (Posh) was ridiculous and I feel clear headed and self righteous this morning. The next lot of food was mustard fish steamed in a banana leaf (sea bass) and okra fries. I’m such a philistine, as I was struggling to cut the dish in half, I commented that the foliage was going to be difficult to digest and my friend gently reminded me that you don’t actually eat the leaf. Oh yeah. Happily the fish was delicious as were the fries.

The dessert menu was very short but had my favourite on it - bread and butter pudding. Actually they called it ‘old rum pudding’, but there was no sniff of rum anywhere near it. It came with ice cream and that thin custard stuff (creme anglaise?) and I loved every mouthful.

This is the sister restaurant of the one near liverpool street station where one can't book and thus waits for tables for up to an hour. I was therefore delighted to be able to come to this branch with a booking before heading to the theatre around the corner. The okra fries were as good as always and very more-ish. The Kashmiri lamb and artichokes hearts were also well executed and tasted great. We were not so sure about the seabass in banana leaf in comparison and the menu is a bit light on vegetable dishes in general. It was, however, quite noisy and the staff are pretty rushed off their feet, so it's worth allowing for a little more time than you anticipate for dinner.

We have been dining at Gunpowder Shoreditch for a couple of years and love it. Thought we would give this branch a try as its bookable which is good. Overall it was decent but not as good as Shoreditch and factoring in the price, just ok. The ribs and chicken were good, although both a little dry. The aloo chat and paneer was a very small serve and def not worth the price. The beef pepper was excellent. The restaurant is bigger so has more of a mass production feel, didnt feel as homely or authentic. Service was weaker too, not very friendly, although quick. Overall it was decent but at £135 for 3ppl, it didnt really feel worth it.

A twist on my expectations and not your traditional Indian fare. More akin to fusion Asian flavors from my experience though not quite as sophisticated as say fusion restaurants such as Long-grain, Chin Chin or MR Wong’s in Sydney. Nevertheless the choices we made had great flavors and every one enjoyed the food. Highly recommended if you wish to try something different.
